Li Nan and Mo Xiaohui originally intended for their relationship to develop naturally, but due to a small mishap, this romantic symphony abruptly came to a halt. Mo Xiaohui awkwardly remarked, "It's good to have a bit of stubble; it adds character!"
Li Nan chuckled, "So what exactly did you see on the seventh floor that made you, a woman who enjoys flavors, feel nauseous?"
Mo Xiaohui pretended to pinch her nose and said, "It was so disgusting; let's not talk about it!"
Li Nan's expression brightened, as if he had transformed into a different person. Mo Xiaohui deliberately continued, "In the bathroom, there was a cat that had been gnawed at beyond recognition, and it was covered in maggots. Combined with the unique smell of the bathroom, you really wouldn't believe how awful it was!"
Li Nan shrugged it off, "It's just a dead cat and some maggots; it seems your nerves aren't tough enough!"
Mo Xiaohui defended herself, "Well, you can go down and see for yourself. Let's see if you throw up!"
Not wanting to continue this topic, Li Nan said, "It's really nice to see you again!"
Mo Xiaohui's eyes were filled with tears. "What exactly happened that allowed you to see the light again?"
Li Nan shook his head. "I don't know either. Just now, when I was on the sofa, I wanted to pick up that stone that fell on the floor, and then a bright light shot into my eyes. After that, I could slowly start to see things clearly!"
Mo Xiaohui seemed skeptical. "It sounds like something out of Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. Don't tell me you're pulling some supernatural stunt here?"
Li Nan sincerely replied, "Why would I lie to you about something like this?"
Thinking of the stone she had scavenged from the seventh floor, Mo Xiaohui immediately began searching under the sofa. Sure enough, it was right next to her ankle.
She picked up the stone and examined it closely but found nothing remarkable about it.
At that moment, Li Nan noticed the stone as well. It was incredibly ordinary—less impressive than an average pebble. It was about the size of half a fist and had a dull gray color resembling soil; at first glance, it looked like just another rock.
Li Nan took the stone from Mo Xiaohui's hand. Upon touching it, he felt as if he were caressing a woman's full bosom; that sensation was not something an ordinary woman could provide!
Li Nan felt surprised, "Why is this stone so strange?"
When Mo Xiaohui first saw this stone on the seventh floor, she didn't think much of it either. Now Li Nan felt the same way; he really couldn't figure out what was so special about this stone. Could it only be used as an object of desire for men? That would be a waste!
Li Nan had no understanding of jade, so he couldn't explain anything about it. His eyes, however, had a distinctly supernatural quality.
He found a mirror in the room and checked his eyes. The thin membrane that had covered his eyeballs was gone, and now both pupils were clear, as if nothing had ever happened.
Without precision medical instruments, Li Nan couldn't conduct a detailed and comprehensive examination of his eyes. He could only rely on the external physiological responses to make some simple experiential analyses.
There was nothing wrong with Li Nan's eyeballs; they had completely returned to normal, and his vision seemed even better than before!
He took out the stone from his pocket again but still found no clues. The return of his eyesight was also completely inexplicable. However, in this apocalyptic world, Li Nan had learned not to dwell on certain perplexing issues, such as why the perfect world had erupted with the Zombie Virus. Was it a natural disaster or something else?
He believed that such questions couldn't be answered in just a few sentences, so Li Nan didn't want to dwell on them. Right now, he just wanted to keep himself and Mo Xiaohui safe and alive in this apocalypse!
Looking at this clear world, Li Nan felt a sense of gratitude. Although his days of blindness were brief, they were enough for him to understand some things. Life is unpredictable; one should never wait until they lose something before grasping at straws for survival. The weak have no chance of surviving in this world, and avoidance won't solve any problems. Just like the Zombie hidden on the seventh floor, even locking oneself in a room cannot withstand the relentless tide of time. To survive, one must face this bleak world head-on!
Mo Xiaohui watched Li Nan staring blankly at the mirror and wondered what thoughts occupied this troubled man's mind. However, given the circumstances, she had nothing to complain about. On the contrary, she felt fortunate that this world had given her hope once again.
The rain outside hadn't stopped yet, and the rare sunlight was nowhere to be seen, as if returning to the cold silence of night.
Mo Xiaohui walked over to close the window tightly and then looked down outside; it was misty with rain, and she couldn't see anything.
Watching the heavy rain made Mo Xiaohui a bit worried. This downpour had lasted several days with no signs of stopping. Logically speaking, there shouldn't be such continuous heavy rain in Jiangbei City during autumn!
Li Nan also moved closer to the window and stood behind Mo Xiaohui, shaking his head. "I wonder when this heavy rain will stop?"
Through the reflection in the window glass, Mo Xiaohui saw herself and Li Nan behind her overlapping, and a smile appeared on her face.
Li Nan placed his hand on Mo Xiaohui's shoulder and then gazed out the window.
Mo Xiaohui asked Li Nan, "Do you think this kind of terrible weather is a repeat of 2012? I hope it won't lead to tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, and those relentless Zombies. I feel like this world has completely collapsed. Do you think humanity will go extinct like the dinosaurs did sixty-five million years ago?"
Li Nan shook his head. "No, while the current situation is bad, it doesn't necessarily mean doom for humanity. The difference between humans and dinosaurs is that we don't rule the Earth with massive bodies but with our functioning brains. Therefore, our fate is definitely not to become fossilized like dinosaurs!"
Mo Xiaohui said with a hint of reassurance, "With you around, I believe there is still hope for this world!"
The rain fell lightly, and the outside world was a blur of water marks. However, faintly within Li Nan's room, one could see a building across the street about ten meters away. Since both buildings were products of the same era, their styles were quite similar.
Mo Xiaohui stared at the eighth floor of the building across and then said to Li Nan, "Do you think there might be survivors in that building too, just like us?"
Li Nan remained noncommittal and wanted to encourage Mo Xiaohui to rest early. In that instant, a sudden flash of light appeared from the eighth floor across!
"Impossible!" Li Nan thought to himself. Could it be that there really are Survivors in that building?
