The rain continued to pour, with pea-sized raindrops hitting the Asphalt Road, instantly splashing up several droplets in all directions.
Li Nan felt that the waterline was beginning to obstruct his vision, so he had to act quickly; otherwise, things could easily get chaotic.
Holding a Fire Axe, he crouched down next to the curb where a large truck was parked, while a Zombie had already sensed the presence of a living person and was staggering towards Li Nan.
While inside the Small Buildings, Li Nan had already observed the general situation. Three Zombies were circling around the large truck, and behind them was a horde of Zombies rushing forward.
Seeing one Zombie charging at him, Li Nan swiftly drew his axe and swung it horizontally, directly slicing off half of its head!
The rain poured heavily, and the blood that gushed out mixed with the downpour, quickly vanishing without a trace.
The Zombie with half its head chopped off still stood firm, continuing to flail its limbs. However, Li Nan showed no hesitation and immediately delivered a powerful kick that sent the remaining half of its head flying.
With a loud thud, the Zombie fell to the ground, splashing water everywhere.
The other two Zombies also caught wind of the commotion and approached from either side of the truck to flank Li Nan.
Li Nan pulled out his axe that was stuck in the Zombie's body and positioned it horizontally in front of him, ready to strike again.
The two Zombies seemed to have an unspoken understanding; upon seeing a living person in front of them, they lost all restraint and simultaneously lunged forward with claws bared.
Li Nan chuckled wryly, "So you want to double team me!"
As he spoke, Li Nan swiftly dodged and jumped onto the front of the truck, causing the two Zombies to collide into each other from both sides.
The two Zombies showed no interest in each other; after their mindless collision, they both straightened up and continued to claw at the front of the truck.
Li Nan stood on the front of the vehicle, holding an axe in both hands. He then seized the opportunity and jumped down from above, bringing the axe blade down to split a Zombie in half from head to toe.
After dealing with the second Zombie, only one remained, which was no longer a threat.
With a swift motion, he brought the axe down again, knocking over the Zombie that was still flailing near the front of the vehicle.
Immediately afterward, Li Nan hacked at the three fallen corpses on the ground, smashing them to pieces. He then tossed some limbs and organs onto the roof and underneath the truck before charging toward the group of Zombies behind him.
Mo Xiaohui watched clearly from the Small Buildings and immediately expressed her concern, saying, "What is he trying to do?"
Beside her, Dogzi remarked, "He's more capable than I imagined. Right now, he's clearly trying to lure those Zombies away. But will he succeed?"
Mo Xiaohui quickly replied, "He will definitely succeed; I believe in him!"
"Let's hope so," Dogzi said calmly, his eyes fixed on the road ahead.
On the street, Li Nan held a Fire Axe, standing before a horde of approaching Zombies. He provocatively taunted them, and they foolishly rushed toward him without hesitation.
Li Nan began to run ahead of the group of Zombies, ensuring that none of the hundreds of them fell behind as they all chased after him. Then he turned around and ran back down the road.
Mo Xiaohui watched from above in the Small Buildings and questioned, "If he runs back down the road we came from, will he have a chance to return?"
At that moment, Dogzi had already put on a plastic sheet and charged out.
Mo Xiaohui shouted, "What are you trying to do?"
The dog that had run downstairs replied, "I'm going to get the food!"
Mo Xiaohui frowned, "Li Nan warned us not to act recklessly before he returns. Why are you being so disobedient?"
The dog didn't seem to care, "You promised him yourself; I never said I would agree. Besides, those zombies might come back, so taking the risk now is worth it!"
Mo Xiaohui watched the dog running in the rain, then bit her lip and ran out after him.
Inside the truck's cargo area, Mo Xiaohui followed closely behind the dog, quickly filling a bag with items.
The dog casually remarked, "With just the two of us, moving everything in this cargo area will probably take all night!"
Mo Xiaohui was unfazed, "We won't need until night. Li Nan will be back by noon. As long as he's here, I can move not just a truckload of stuff but even a whole building!"
A smile appeared on the dog's face, "Looks like you really admire that guy!"
Mo Xiaohui paused her hands and said earnestly, "Without him, I would have died dozens of times already. So I trust him! Unreservedly trust him!"
The dog weighed the bag of items, "It's about the right weight now; if we add more, I won't be able to carry it!"
Mo Xiaohui expressed surprise, "You're just a kid; can you really carry all this?"
The dog nodded, "In a world without adults, I'm my own adult. So I never think of myself as a child. Don't call me that!"
Mo Xiaohui chuckled, "You're small but clever. Should I call you a man instead?"
Mo Xiaohui carried a bag made of glass fiber. Although it was heavy, she managed to drag it into the rain, making her way to the Small Buildings.
Inside the truck, Dogzi pulled out another bag and hurriedly started packing things inside. He was unsure if there was enough time, so he had to speed up.
Amidst the rain, Mo Xiaohui and Dogzi wandered between the large truck and the Small Buildings, sweating from their efforts. Fortunately, everything in the truck was pre-packaged and protected by plastic bags; otherwise, after all this commotion, the food would likely have been ruined!
Time passed quickly, and soon only a small pile of items remained in the truck.
Mo Xiaohui returned to the truck, her face filled with worry, while Dogzi occasionally looked outside but still did not see any sign of a man returning.
The sky had darkened, and after making one last trip to move all the food back into the Small Buildings, Mo Xiaohui collapsed onto the ground, allowing the rough floor to rub against her legs.
Dogzi sensed something unusual and said to Mo Xiaohui, "Maybe he's coming back soon; you shouldn't worry too much!"
Looking at the half-filled room with food, Mo Xiaohui couldn't muster any enthusiasm. Instead, she replied, "He's just being foolish. As long as we hide in this Small Building, even if there are Zombies around, they won't find us!"
Dogzi shook his head. "You're wrong. Even if those Zombies can't find us, they'll definitely be circling around outside. At that point, our food supply will be cut off, and we won't survive for long. So Li Nan's actions were correct; at least we brought back a lot of food!"
Mo Xiaohui suddenly shivered. "You're still just a child. When you have someone in your heart that you can't let go of, that's when you'll become a man!"
Dogzi replied in disbelief, "Everyone has abandoned me; who would I be attached to? Just surviving is good enough for me; I don't dare to hope for anything more!"
Half-lying on the ground, Mo Xiaohui reached out her hands. Dogzi didn't understand her intention and leaned closer to see what she meant.
With her head lowered, Mo Xiaohui suddenly pulled Dogzi into her embrace and murmured, "You haven't been abandoned by everyone; at least Li Nan and I are still willing to accept you!"
"We are just cooperating. You rent my house and pay me with food as compensation. It's simply a transaction where both parties get what they need!"
Mo Xiaohui looked up at the dirty little face of the dog, and seeing his serious expression, she couldn't help but laugh. "Clever boy, you won't make any friends like this!"
The dog was confused. "What's the use of making friends?"
"Friends will share joy and hardship with you, appear when you need them, accompany you in your adventures, provide you with a sense of security, and offer you much emotional comfort... In short, people cannot live without friends!"
Hearing a voice behind her, Mo Xiaohui suddenly turned around and saw Li Nan standing in the doorway, holding a bright red axe, drenched from the rain, looking both disheveled and charming!
The dog also turned to look, showing a surprised expression. "I thought you wouldn't come back!"
Mo Xiaohui gently patted the dog and then got up, rushing into Li Nan's arms.
"Why did it take you so long to come back? I was so worried!"
Li Nan gently stroked Mo Xiaohui's back with his wet palm. "But I'm back in one piece now, aren't I?"
