The physical training over the past seven days has significantly changed Li Nan and his companions.
Next to the Asphalt Road, a few Street Trees are in a sorry state, with more than a dozen holes in their trunks, resembling those made by Rebar being thrust into them.
With a whoosh, a Silver Javelin flew through the air at high speed, piercing the trunk of one of the Street Trees and emerging on the other side, embedding itself into the ground behind it.
Following the spear, a man's shadow lunged forward. He took a solid stance and swung two iron fists toward the tree, which was as thick as a thigh.
With a loud crash, the Street Tree was snapped in half, its five or six-meter trunk crashing to the ground, causing a few solitary autumn insects perched on it to flutter away.
The person who struck the Street Tree was Li Nan. He turned around to pick up the Spear that had been embedded in the mud and began to twirl it smoothly in his hand.
Li Dapeng, witnessing Li Nan's incredible strength, exclaimed in admiration, "Boss, how can you be so strong?"
Li Nan smiled and replied, "Because I ate spinach. Popeye loves spinach, so naturally, I have great strength!"
Li Dapeng recognized Li Nan's joke but didn't press further. Instead, he looked at Mo Xiaohui, who was standing atop a large truck, balancing on one leg while the Autumn Wind howled around her without her moving an inch.
"Sister Mo, how long have you been up there?" Li Dapeng asked, but Mo Xiaohui remained unresponsive.
Li Nan chuckled, "Don't ask her; she won't come down until it's time to eat!"
After getting no response from Mo Xiaohui, Li Dapeng began running along the road. Although his speed couldn't match that of Hui Xiaomo with her wings, it wasn't bad either.
Watching Mo Xiaohui and Li Dapeng grow stronger filled Li Nan with joy. "The effort over these seven days has truly paid off!"
In fact, compared to Li Nan's strength, the balance and speed of the other two were merely at an average level. However, that was sufficient since what Li Nan wanted was not X-Men.
On the fifteenth day of the apocalypse, Li Nan and two others got into a large truck, pressed the accelerator, and drove toward the main road of Jiangbei City.
In these seven days, Li Nan and his companions had consumed almost all their food and water, essentially leaving them with nothing. However, Li Nan said to them, "Back in the day, Xiang Yu cut off his retreat and fought against Zhang Han, leading to a great defeat for him. So our situation isn't that bad!"
Mo Xiaohui replied, "Speak plainly!"
Li Nan smiled, "Without food, we'll go into the city to grab some. Without water, we'll take it from the zombies. We are the bravest warriors of the proletariat! We're not afraid of anything!"
Li Dapeng didn't understand the last sentence and asked, "What's a proletariat?"
Mo Xiaohui interrupted, "Don't listen to his nonsense. When we get into the city, we must stay vigilant. Never act recklessly and don't trust any unfamiliar survivors!"
Li Dapeng nodded, "The boss has already told me about these things long ago, but will there still be survivors inside?"
Mo Xiaohui nodded and shook his head, "I don't know! Maybe there are some; after all, we have survived. As for the so-called Safe Zone, who knows if it still exists!"
At this moment, Li Nan said, "Right now, the Safe Zone is no longer important to us. We have to rely on our own strength to survive!"
The other two in the truck nodded in agreement, seemingly convinced by what Li Nan had instilled in them. After more than half a month of apocalypse, their experiences indeed confirmed this point!
While they were talking in the truck, a sudden jolt was felt as if the wheels had run over something.
Mo Xiaohui asked Li Nan, "What was that just now?"
Li Nan shook his head, "It was just a stone; there's no need to worry!"
Li Dapeng stretched his head out of the window, looking at the object they had just run over. It seemed to be quite large, but whether it was a stone was hard to say.
After pulling his head back in, Li Dapeng seemed to confirm what Li Nan had said, "It really is a stone!"
Fortunately, there were no further incidents on the road ahead, which put Mo Xiaohui at ease.
The wheels of the truck kept turning, and the scenery outside changed continuously, gradually revealing buildings like apartments and plazas.
After passing over an elevated bridge and following the flow of the Riverside, they entered the Jiangbei City area!
Li Nan was multitasking; since there were no other vehicles on the road, he didn't have to worry too much. He used the rest of his attention to observe the situation on both sides of the road.
Outside the third ring of Jiangbei City, there were hardly any large public facilities—mostly low-end residential buildings. If they crashed into one of those buildings, it would be too dangerous, and he probably wouldn't gain anything from it. Therefore, Li Nan didn't plan to do that; he needed to find opportunities that carried less risk but offered greater rewards!
Once they entered the city area, they occasionally encountered a few ragged zombies on the road. Li Nan didn't want to bother with such minor threats; he avoided them whenever possible, and when he couldn't, he simply ran over them!
Due to Li Nan's divided attention, the truck was moving slowly. Suddenly, as they passed through a small culvert, Li Nan felt something strange about the truck.
After a brief moment of darkness, sunlight returned immediately. However, Li Nan felt that the truck's speed had decreased further. Looking at the fuel gauge, he couldn't figure out why. "Why is the speed slowing down?"
Mo Xiaohui felt nothing unusual and asked Li Nan, "Is something wrong?"
Li Nan was unsure about what was happening. After rolling down the window, he looked at the front tire and found that it was heavily weighted. Aside from a diesel generator on this truck, there was nothing else that could cause such weight!
At this moment, Li Nan was filled with confusion. He turned back to look at the culvert they had just passed but found nothing unusual there either.
Above the culvert was a road that ran through the city, while below it was designed as a double-lane culvert. This place, aside from being prone to minor traffic accidents, posed no significant issues. However, Li Nan felt a deep sense of crisis!
Li Nan slammed on the brakes and jumped out of the car, while Mo Xiaohui shouted loudly, "What are you doing? There are zombies over there!"
In front of the truck, three clawing zombies were wandering around. Upon noticing nearby humans, they lunged forward without hesitation.
Li Nan pulled out a rebar javelin from beneath the seat. Originally two meters long, he had modified it to match his own height for easier use.
Holding the rebar javelin, Li Nan first dispatched one zombie and then circled around to the back of the truck to see what had caused the sudden weight on the wheels.
Mo Xiaohui did not understand Li Nan's intentions and also jumped out of the car. Li Dapeng, clearly more sensitive than Mo Xiaohui, immediately pulled out a binding hook from his sleeve. He maneuvered around to the back of the remaining two zombies and swiftly brought both hooks down, knocking them over instantly.
Li Dapeng retrieved his binding hook and ran towards Li Nan's position. In that moment, Li Nan, who was at the back of the truck, shouted loudly, "Run! Run!"
Li Dapeng was in front of Mo Xiaohui. Upon hearing Li Nan's shout, he did not hesitate for a moment. He turned around and tackled Mo Xiaohui, pulling her back as they ran. Mo Xiaohui was confused and asked, "What happened?"
Before Li Nan could say another word, a loud "rumble" erupted from behind the truck, like a lead ball crashing onto foam board, causing the asphalt road beneath their feet to tremble violently!
