The long night passed slowly, and Li Nan cautiously endured until dawn. Fortunately, the first night in Jiangbei City was relatively peaceful.
A ray of sunlight flashed through the window frame, and suddenly, the world brightened, enveloping everything in warmth.
As the first beam of morning sunlight struck Li Nan's eyes, he woke up. At the same time, a figure stirred beside him under the covers.
Mo Xiaohui opened her sleepy eyes and smiled at the already awake Li Nan. She then said softly, "I know you didn't sleep well last night. Sleep a little longer; otherwise, when things get busy later, you won't have time to rest!"
Li Nan propped himself up on his right arm and raised his head towards Mo Xiaohui's position, smiling as he replied, "What a wonderful moment of tranquility! I'm afraid once we get up, we'll be on the go non-stop!"
Mo Xiaohui brushed her hair back and adjusted her clothes. They had all slept in their clothes throughout the night.
With a playful smile on her face, Mo Xiaohui said, "If water doesn't flow, it becomes stagnant; if door hinges don't move, they rust. We can't afford to be idle; otherwise, we might really end up in trouble!"
Li Nan nodded in agreement. "You're right. In this apocalypse, we are like ants scurrying around for scraps of food and a base to survive. Although our desires are small, they are ultimately the foundation of our lives!"
Mo Xiaohui stretched her waist, her figure becoming more pronounced. The soft morning sunlight illuminated her delicate face, creating a gentle and beautiful scene that made Li Nan momentarily mesmerized.
Mo Xiaohui glanced at Li Nan, signaling him to sleep a little longer. However, Li Nan found it hard to focus on that as he felt a stirring beneath the thin blanket.
Li Nan glanced down and frowned. "What an ungrateful fellow! It's just morning wood; can't you hold out for a bit longer?"
It wasn't that Li Nan was particularly interested; it was simply that every energetic man experiences such situations in the morning, not specifically directed at Mo Xiaohui.
Seeing Li Nan's reaction, Mo Xiaohui couldn't help but chuckle, but suddenly her face flushed with embarrassment.
"This guy is making it hard for me to maintain my composure!" Li Nan silently scolded his unruly little brother. Meanwhile, Mo Xiaohui remained silent but clearly mouthed a question: Can you hold it in?
"Wow! This is a blatant provocation!" Li Nan's face twitched, as if he was about to shout, "What's there to hold back? Haven't the single men managed on their own for so many years?"
However, considering there was a sleeping child nearby, he refrained from voicing his thoughts. The man's pride also made Li Nan endure it. Not to mention that he and Mo Xiaohui had nothing going on, even if they did, this was not the right time. After all, one would only think of desires after a good meal and drink, and their group couldn't even guarantee basic meals; what right did they have to flirt around here?
Li Nan looked up at the ceiling and said, "I'll sleep a bit longer. It got dark last night, and I didn't check this room carefully. You take a look and see if there's anything useful or edible!"
Mo Xiaohui initially wanted to tease Li Nan but found that he wasn't taking the bait. Reluctantly, she got up and muttered to herself, "What an unromantic guy!"
As Mo Xiaohui got up, Li Dapeng, who was squeezed in the middle, also opened his eyes. He rubbed them and then looked at Li Nan and Mo Xiaohui with a hint of amusement. Although he didn't quite understand the feelings between adults, he could observe the subtle relationship between these two!
"Adults are such a hassle!" Li Dapeng shook his head secretly and then crawled out from under the covers. Noticing the movement behind him, Mo Xiaohui asked, "Li Dapeng, why are you up so early?"
Li Dapeng joked, "The sun's already out shining on our backs; how can this be considered early?"
Mo Xiaohui turned around to glance at the still-sleeping Li Nan and laughed, "Some people really aren't as good as children!"
Hearing this from under the covers, Li Nan couldn't help but throw the pillow from under his head at her. Mo Xiaohui dodged easily with a quick movement!
Li Dapeng laughed heartily beside them, "You two really have time for this!"
Mo Xiaohui pouted and grumbled, "Men are all like children; no matter how old they get, they can't change their nature!"
Li Dapeng replied, "I'm also a child; I can't change my nature either!"
Mo Xiaohui covered her mouth and said, "They can't change their nature of wanting to suckle from women!"
Li Dapeng stared at Mo Xiaohui's impressive chest and then turned his head, saying, "What milk are you talking about? Are you still drinking milk, grown-up?"
Mo Xiaohui waved her hand, "Stop bringing that up. Since you're awake, help me search this room and see if there's anything useful!"
Li Nan, who was covered by the blanket, was already laughing heartily. He didn't expect that Mo Xiaohui had quite the potential to be a primary school health teacher!
To simplify things, this room wasn't very big, only about sixty square meters. It had one bedroom and a small bathroom, indicating that the owner probably didn't have any children.
After rummaging through everything, aside from a few ill-fitting clothes, there didn't seem to be anything useful.
Yesterday, Li Nan had used the Binding Hook to directly enter the rear end of that giant spider, getting himself all dirty. There wasn't really a place to take a shower, so he could only wipe himself down a bit and call it good. His original set of clothes had long been ruined!
Mo Xiaohui found a men's coat in the wardrobe. It was made of thick wool and clearly a branded item; it must have belonged to the male owner of the house.
She shook off the coat. Although it was a style that had been popular two or three years ago, the craftsmanship was good. With autumn setting in and the weather getting colder, this coat would suit Li Nan perfectly!
Li Dapeng's clothes were also heavily worn out, but Mo Xiaohui still hadn't found any children's clothing. It seemed that besides searching for food, they also needed to prepare some warm clothing!
Thinking of this, Mo Xiaohui couldn't help but chuckle. "Why am I acting like a housewife? All I'm thinking about is that Li Nan has no clothes and Li Dapeng has nothing to wear. Why didn't I think about myself?"
Women’s hearts can be strange; Mo Xiaohui felt her maternal instincts growing stronger. But she was still an unmarried young woman! Why was she constantly thinking about these men's and children's needs?
Mo Xiaohui secretly blushed. "Could it be that I'm also getting sentimental?"
She shook her head. "What kind of situation is this? Why am I still thinking about such random things?"
Li Dapeng saw that Mo Xiaohui's face was unnaturally red in the corner, while Li Nan, who was sleeping nearby, had a high tent pitched in his lower half. These things were beyond the understanding of a twelve-year-old child!
At noon, the sun was already strong, and Li Nan had gotten up to wash his face in the bathroom. After twisting the faucet for a long time, no water came out. Suddenly, Li Nan thought to himself, "The entire Jiangbei City must have its power and water supply down; how could there be any water?"
With no way to wash his face, Li Nan noticed a hard towel hanging on the bathroom railing. Without thinking twice, he yanked it down and wiped his face with it, considering it done!
In the living room, Li Dapeng sat on the floor holding a few wilted white radishes that looked like dried elm bark. He said, "This is all I found in the fridge; the rest is some moldy stinky tofu and rotten ham!"
Li Nan glanced at the white radishes, which resembled the withered genitals of an old man, and asked, "Is there really nothing edible in this room?"
Li Dapeng nodded and pointed to a corner while saying, "Although there's no food, there is a case of mineral water; that should be enough to drink!"
Li Nan moved over to the corner and looked at the opened case of a certain brand of mineral water. There were twenty-four bottles originally, but now only eighteen remained.
Li Nan grabbed a bottle of mineral water and gulped it down eagerly.
At that moment, Mo Xiaohui also walked out of the bedroom and said to Li Nan, "I found a coat; it fits you well!"
Li Nan looked down and realized he was only wearing a thin checkered shirt. Although it was sunny outside, there was still a chill in the air during late autumn!
Li Nan put on the wool coat and immediately felt its weight. He remarked, "This is a good piece!"
Mo Xiaohui patted Li Nan's coat and teased him, "You look like you stepped out of a scene with Chow Yun-fat's Little Horse!"
Li Nan smiled wryly, "If Little Horse encountered this apocalypse, he would probably stumble too!" Then he changed the subject and said, "There’s nothing here; we can’t stay long. While it’s still midday, we need to hurry and get out!"
Mo Xiaohui nodded and pulled a backpack from behind, apparently a result of their morning's scavenging.
"I'll carry it!" Li Nan said as he grabbed the backpack from Mo Xiaohui, stuffing in the remaining seventeen bottles of five hundred milliliters of mineral water. After zipping it up, he pushed the door open and stepped outside.
Mo Xiaohui laughed behind him, "Little Horse's outfit is for showing off with a gun, while you’re just carrying a Spear and have a backpack on your back. All that effort to look cool has gone to waste!"
Li Nan chuckled, "Little Horse's style is for show; we’re just trying to survive in this apocalypse. Where’s the elegance in that?"
Li Nan led the way, pushing aside the sofa and coffee table that blocked the door before stepping out.
Inside the corridor, even in broad daylight, it was quite dim without any lights. However, he could see the steps clearly. As Li Nan exited the room and looked up, he suddenly remembered that this building had five floors!
Li Nan asked Li Dapeng, "Are you hungry?"
Li Dapeng nodded and shook his head, "I can hold on!"
Li Nan raised his eyebrows and said to Mo Xiaohui, "Although there’s no food here, the upper floors might still have some. Before we leave, we need to search again. We should learn not to leave empty-handed!"
