The midday sunlight streamed through the doorway, only to be blocked by the massive creature in front of it, casting a shadow that fell right at Li Nan's feet.
Li Nan turned around and was taken aback by the sight of the giant rat at the entrance.
Lin Hai said, "There's no other way; we can only charge out now!"
Li Nan stared at the enormous rat, its height towering over him, with eyes the size of fists glowing green. Its two large incisors hung down like two yellow shovels.
Li Nan assessed the size of the rat at the door; even if they both combined their strength, they were not in the same league. The chances of escaping now seemed almost nonexistent!
Rats are known for their quick reflexes, and despite its enlarged size, the four short legs beneath it indicated that this creature would not be slow.
Li Nan held a piece of shattered skeleton bone in his hand and tentatively threw it to the side, but the imposing rat remained unfazed, fixated on Li Nan and Lin Hai's direction!
Li Nan stood still, while the giant rat did not move either, as if both sides were testing each other's patience!
At this moment, Lin Hai had already raised his AK-47, taking aim, while Li Nan quietly asked, "Do you have confidence?"
Lin Hai nodded. "In this situation, we can only give it a try!"
The giant rat seemed to notice Lin Hai's movement; its eyes shifted and it let out a screech that resembled an angry roar!
In response, a rustling sound echoed throughout the rest of the hall, reminiscent of a swarm of flies buzzing around your ears!
Li Nan swung his Wolf Eye Flashlight from side to side, and suddenly, what had been an empty area was filled with countless tiny legs!
"Damn it!" Li Nan cursed under his breath and immediately told Lin Hai, "It seems we won't be able to escape today!"
Lin Hai also heard the sounds around him and smiled bitterly, saying, "Just because we can't escape, do we have to surrender and become food for the rats?"
Li Nan nodded, "At this point, there are no choices left. We can only charge forward. Even if we die, we can't let this group of Giant Rats get away unscathed!"
As he spoke, the AK-47 in Lin Hai's hand spat out a tongue of fire, aimed directly at the eyes of the giant rat blocking the doorway!
When a burst of bullets was fired, the giant rat sensed the danger and immediately lunged forward!
The bullets from the AK-47 grazed the giant rat's eyes and struck its neck fur, but to Li Nan and Lin Hai's astonishment, the bullets had no effect on the Giant Rat at all; not even a drop of blood was drawn!
"Damn it!" Li Nan muttered under his breath as he released his Compound Bow. However, due to the giant rat's swift movements, he missed his target, and the arrow lodged itself into a crack in the wall before falling to the ground.
At that moment, waves of rats surged from both sides of the hall, targeting Li Nan and Lin Hai!
With a Giant Rat closing in from the front and a Rodent Army encircling them from both sides, Li Nan and Lin Hai truly had nowhere to retreat!
The one-meter-tall Giant Rat lunged forward while a horde of reinforced rats, as large as dogs, charged in. It felt like Sun Wukong had fallen into an endless pit, completely surrounded by rats!
Li Nan pulled out a Rebar Javelin from behind him, intending to throw it further, but Lin Hai grabbed him and said, "Maybe we can escape from over there!"
Following Lin Hai's point direction, Li Nan noticed a staircase in the northeast corner behind them!
At this moment, they couldn't afford to think too much. The front door was definitely not an option; they could only run backward. Lin Hai pulled Li Nan along as they hurried to the staircase. Just as Li Nan was about to flee up the stairs, another wave of rats came rushing down!
With no other choice, Li Nan and Lin Hai could only grit their teeth and dash down the staircase.
Due to Lin Hai's lack of stamina, he stumbled and fell to the ground, rolling down like a ball.
Li Nan didn't have time to shine his flashlight on the dangers below; he could only close his eyes and run down, trying to avoid that group of rats first.
When Lin Hai finally stopped, Li Nan was already leaning against the wall, looking back. Fortunately, that army of rats hadn't chased after them!
Lin Hai held his waist and thought to himself, "Are we safe now?"
Li Nan took a deep breath and said, "For now, there's no problem!" Then he scanned the area with his Wolf Eye Flashlight and discovered that they were in a large underground supermarket!
There were several cash registers at the entrances and exits, and behind them were rows of food shelves filled with a variety of goods.
Lin Hai turned around and smiled, "It seems our adventure has led us right into the Rice Bin!"
Although there was no noise in the corridor, Li Nan had a bad feeling and asked, "You didn't get hurt just now, did you?"
Lin Hai checked his body and found that his left arm was not very mobile and was faintly painful. "There's a small issue; I might have dislocated my arm when I rolled down from upstairs!"
"In this situation, it's going to be extremely difficult to rush out!" While speaking, Li Nan moved closer to Lin Hai, already supporting his left arm. With a strong pull and a quick push, Lin Hai's arm became movable again.
"It's not broken; it just dislocated. Once it's back in place, it will be fine!"
Lin Hai was surprised. "Are you a doctor?"
Li Nan nodded. "I used to be an Intern Doctor; now I'm no different from a fugitive!"
Lin Hai moved his left arm and found that it had returned to normal, though he lacked much strength.
Turning around to see rows of shelves, Lin Hai said, "Maybe we should fill our stomachs first and then think of a way to break out!"
Li Nan, holding the Wolf Eye Flashlight, checked the shelves in front of him. After confirming there was no danger, he said, "Perhaps this is a safe place, but why didn't those rats follow us? Isn't that strange?"
Lin Hai pulled a can of beef from the shelf and pondered for a moment before stuffing it into his mouth. He then grabbed a bottle of mineral water from the opposite shelf and poured it into his mouth.
Compared to Lin Hai's hearty eating, Li Nan's face was clouded with worry. "Why didn't those rats chase us? Could it be that there's something even more terrifying in the Underground Supermarket that scares them away?"
Thinking of this, Li Nan's hair stood on end, and he immediately said to Lin Hai, "There's definitely something strange here. We can't be careless. Whatever those rats fear must not be anything good!"
Lin Hai had food stuck in his throat and couldn't swallow it down right away, only managing to make a hoarse sound, "I... know...!"
"Uh..." Lin Hai let out a loud burp, and immediately Li Nan laughed, "Why does your burp sound so shaky?"
Lin Hai was speechless, "I didn't do anything!"
Upon hearing this, Li Nan was suddenly alarmed. He quickly swept the Wolf Eye Flashlight over, and under the beam of light appeared a pink round ball!
