With a loud crash, the lighter in Li Nan's hand suddenly fell to the side. His body instinctively dropped down, and around him, countless sounds of falling stones echoed, creating an eerie atmosphere in the empty cave.
Caught completely off guard, Li Nan had always thought that the cave extended far, so he hadn't paid attention to the ground beneath him. This oversight led him to unknowingly fall into a pit.
Li Nan cursed inwardly, wondering who would dig such a large hole in the ground; it was utterly despicable!
After rolling for a considerable distance, Li Nan finally reached the bottom. During the fall, he had protected his vital areas with his hands, so he sustained only minor abrasions.
The moment his body came to a stop, Li Nan instinctively spread his legs apart, lowered his stance, and raised his hands in a protective manner, fearing an attack from something else!
After about three seconds of silence, Li Nan slowly began to move, looking around. Unfortunately, the lighter in his hand was long gone, and in this pit, it was pitch black; after some probing, he couldn't discern anything.
Li Nan couldn't help but let out a groan. He then used his feet to feel around on the ground. After moving just a couple of steps, he sensed something unusual beneath his feet—a sticky texture!
Realizing something was wrong, Li Nan halted and kicked out forcefully. A loud cracking sound echoed in response. In the darkness, he turned his eyes and thought, "Could it be a corpse?"
After taking a few steps to the side, Li Nan made another discovery: this pit seemed to be a grave. Although he couldn't tell if there were corpses inside, a foul stench hit him directly; it certainly wasn't good news!
Fortunately, the cave was dark and much cooler than outside, so the overwhelming smell of decay didn't make Li Nan gag.
Underfoot was a sticky mass of flesh along with various bodily fluids seeping out. If it weren't for the lack of visibility, this scene would have been quite overwhelming!
Once Li Nan grasped the general situation at the bottom of the pit, he began to speculate. The sudden appearance of this pit in the cave might not have been man-made; however, the presence of these bodies was undoubtedly human-related. This meant that there were still living people in Peach Blossom Hot Spring Villa!
With this thought in mind, Li Nan felt a shiver run down his spine. The bodies in this pit numbered at least eighty or even a hundred; thus, any survivors here must be exceptionally brave. Fatty and the others might be in trouble!
Li Nan didn't dwell on what else might be in the pit; he only wanted to get out as quickly as possible. He had no idea how many survivors were left in the villa or whether they were friend or foe.
Li Nan backed up to the edge of the pit where he had fallen and cautiously attempted to climb up. However, the edges of the pit were lined with loose stones that offered no grip at all. The slope was steep; without any tools or assistance, it was impossible to climb out by hand.
Now, it is still unclear how deep this Pit really is, but one thing is certain: it will definitely take some effort to get out.
As Li Nan pondered how to ascend, a flickering point of fire suddenly appeared in his dark line of sight!
Li Nan couldn't help but exclaim, "What is going on? Could it be will-o'-the-wisps?"
Suddenly turning around, Li Nan saw nothing unusual behind him. However, as he quickly turned back, the previous flickering light had already extinguished, disappearing into the boundless darkness.
This truly left Li Nan in a daze. "Could it be an illusion caused by staying too long in this dark environment?"
However, he quickly dismissed this hypothesis. It is easy to experience an illusion once, but it would be impossible to have a second occurrence. Just then, Li Nan saw that flickering light leap up again!
In the profound darkness, that point of fire was particularly eye-catching. Although the dancing flame was only the size of a fingernail, it was enough to illuminate the eyes of a lost traveler and guide him forward!
In that instant, Li Nan suddenly realized something: that jumping light was clearly the flame of a lighter!
Sure enough, after about three seconds, unable to withstand the heat generated by the lighter's flame, he suddenly let go, and the flame disappeared as well!
Li Nan let out a bitter laugh and then shouted towards the direction outside the Pit, "Who are you? Why are you here?"
Li Nan deliberately controlled his voice to show that he meant no harm; however, his voice echoed in the cave, amplifying several times and sounding particularly deafening.
Yet, there was no response to his words, and the lighter no longer shone brightly.
It was neither friend nor foe!
With this thought in mind, Li Nan felt a murderous intent rising within him. However, the situation was not optimistic; although he harbored thoughts of killing, he could not climb out of this Pit. It seemed that at this moment, he could only await his fate!
After several minutes of silence following the disappearance of the lighter's flame, a rustling sound emerged from outside the Pit. Hearing the commotion below, Li Nan immediately thought it was bad news; it seemed that someone was about to attack him. He quickly reached behind him and pulled out his Desert Eagle!
On this raid to the Peach Blossom Hot Spring Villa, Li Nan carried very few items with him: a Black Gold Blade, a Mechanical Composite Longbow, a Desert Eagle, and a Friction Lighter. However, he had already lost the lighter and the Black Gold Blade, leaving him with only two ranged weapons. In such an environment where visibility was nearly zero, having something was not necessarily better than having nothing.
Li Nan instinctively took a few steps back, wary of anything that might be thrown down from above, like rolling stones or logs. In this situation, it was either his death or theirs!
Sure enough, something was thrown down from above. However, as Li Nan listened carefully, he did not detect any significant threat.
At that moment, someone above made a gesture, causing the object in their hand to make a sound. Li Nan then realized that what had been thrown down was actually a rope!
Not caring about the other person's intentions, Li Nan leaned forward and began to feel around in the rubble with both hands. Before long, he found the end of the rope!
Gripping the rope tightly in his hands, he felt it was sturdy enough, and the force from above seemed sufficient to pull him up without any issues. However, Li Nan remained cautious and shouted up, "Brother up there, do you want to kill me or save me? If you want me dead, just go ahead; if you have kindness in your heart, I thank you!"
Li Nan deliberately made his words lengthy. Before the other person could think it over, he jumped up and used the momentum to propel himself upward like a grasshopper leaping into the air!
In fact, Li Nan had already estimated this pit beforehand. During his fall, he calculated that it should take about two seconds. If he were in free fall, the depth would be nearly ten meters. However, since he rolled down, the depth should be discounted to about five or six meters. Based on this judgment, he figured that if he flapped his arms and kicked his legs quickly enough during those two seconds of descent, one second would be sufficient for him to ascend.
When Li Nan leaped out of the pit, it was clear that the person pulling him up had not fully reacted yet.
Holding onto a rope as thick as his finger, Li Nan faced the person who had pulled him up and said, "Thank you, brother!"
Since there was no light at all in this cave, Li Nan could not see who was in front of him. Nevertheless, he still expressed his gratitude.
The rope in Li Nan's hands remained taut; evidently, the person on the other end had not loosened their grip.
Li Nan smiled and said, "No need to be so tense; I'm not a bad person..."
Before he could finish speaking, a gust of wind from a blade suddenly rushed at him from behind. At that moment, Li Nan realized that there was actually no one opposite him; instead, the rope in his hand was merely tied to a large rock or stalactite.
Noticing something was off, Li Nan quickly shifted his body and threw the rope away.
The blade sliced through the rope and directly aimed at Li Nan's position. Fortunately, Li Nan was quick enough to dodge, but the large rock in front of him was split in half with a loud crack!
Li Nan cursed under his breath, "It's my Black Gold Minghong Blade. You scoundrel, you're going too far!"
Anger surged within him as he drew his Desert Eagle and fired several shots. Unfortunately, his aim was off, and a few bullets ricocheted off the cave walls, producing a sharp echoing sound.
For a moment, both of them attacked without inflicting any damage on each other, leading to a stalemate.
Li Nan held his Desert Eagle, listening to the opponent's footsteps. He noticed that the footsteps were extremely light and subtle, indicating that the person was skilled. In contrast, Li Nan's heavy steps made it difficult for him to conceal his position.
After a minute of tense silence, Li Nan finally spoke up: "I say, brother, if you want to kill me, why did you pull me up here? I really don't understand!"
The person across from him slightly opened his mouth and replied, "Pulling you up here makes it easier to kill you and eat your flesh!"
Upon hearing this, Li Nan's heart trembled. The murderous intent that had been brewing in the pit suddenly resurfaced. He muttered to himself, "You think you can eat human flesh? You're not worthy!" With that thought, he crouched down and engaged in combat with his gun as a weapon.
Just as Li Nan was enjoying the struggle, suddenly a dozen torches burst into the cave, illuminating the entire space. Seeing this, Li Nan couldn't help but chuckle to himself, "My backup has arrived; let's see what you can do now!"
