After going through life and death, Xin Yi finally returned to his side, which was indeed a great comfort for Lijie. However, another problem that he had to face emerged: how to handle his feelings for Shen Shanshan and Shu Rui. Although nothing substantial had happened between him and the two girls, their parents had already met. How could he pretend that nothing had happened? In fact, this was not the most important issue; what mattered was that he could not let go of Shen Shanshan and Shu Rui. Xin Yi began to seriously contemplate this issue. Deep down, he did not want to make this choice because he could never find what he believed to be the right answer. But what would happen if he did not face it? Sooner or later, the three women would find out. What kind of person would he be in their eyes then? A heartless man? A fickle lover? Someone who loves one person after another? 0

Xin Yi found it hard to imagine, but ultimately, he had to confront this matter. How should he explain things to the women? Should he directly tell them, "I like each of you and hope you can all be with me at the same time"? He believed he could never say such a thing. Although things had already happened, many times they occurred naturally in uncontrollable situations. Xin Yi had not deliberately pursued anything; if blame were to be placed, it could only be on his nature as a sentimental person. 0

In the end, Xin Yi decided to find an opportunity to clarify things with Shen Shanshan and Shu Rui. At least he had not made any promises to them yet, while with Lijie, they had already established a substantial relationship, and Xin Yi had promised her that she would be his wife. Thinking about this made Xin Yi feel conflicted again. Shen Shanshan's feelings for him were undeniable; after years of secret admiration and everything they had been through together, she probably regarded him as her lifelong support. If she found out that Xin Yi had other women in his life, he did not know how she would react. Given her personality, she would surely be heartbroken. As for Shu Rui, although she appeared to be a strong and composed woman on the surface, her behavior after Xin Yi's capture revealed her deep feelings for him. It was evident that even a usually strong woman could be devastated by love. 0

If he had known it would turn out this way, Xin Yi truly wished he had never met them. If they had not encountered him, these uncontrollable events would not have happened. If these events did not occur, they would not suffer because of his sentimentality. Xin Yi felt like a sinner—a sinner who caused pain to the women he loved. What meaning was there in gaining the whole world if it meant hurting those who loved him back? 0

Well, things needed to be resolved eventually. Xin Yi was not someone who shied away from facing challenges. Now that matters had reached this point, ensuring that they received the happiness they deserved was the only solution. They would undoubtedly feel hurt, but how could Xin Yi avoid feeling heartbroken himself? 0

Xin Yi told Lijie that he needed to go out alone for something important. Lijie did not ask what it was but gave him a deep look and gently said while adjusting his clothes, "Okay, go ahead. Will you come back for lunch?" 0

"I'll be having lunch with someone else; I won't be back," Xin Yi replied. Although he did not tell Lijie whom he was meeting, he did not want to deceive her either. He also had a vague feeling that Lijie somehow knew what he was going to do. 0

"Be careful driving on your way," Lijie said softly. "Come home early tonight; I'll wait for you for dinner." She continued speaking gently while brushing aside some hair that fell onto Xin Yi's forehead. 0

"Okay, I'm leaving," Xin Yi said as he pinched Lijie's cheek playfully. "Have lunch with Big Bull; just make sure to prepare more since Big Bull has a big appetite." After saying this, Xin Yi turned and left the room downstairs. As his footsteps echoed on the wooden stairs, Lijie felt as if each thud resonated in her heart. She sighed softly and sat down in a chair dejectedly. 0

Driving towards the military compound, Xin Yi dialed Shen Shanshan's number while on the road. As soon as it rang once, Shen Shanshan picked up excitedly: "Xin Yi! Are you back? Did you just arrive at the airport? I'll come pick you up right away!" Her joy was unmistakable. 0

Xin Yi sighed lightly in his heart; how could he bear to hurt such a girl? It felt like a sin! "Shanshan, I returned yesterday; I'm on my way to your house now. Let's have lunch together," Xin Yi said over the phone. 0

"Sure!" Shen Shanshan replied happily. "I'll ask Aunt Wu to buy some more ingredients; I'll cook something delicious for you." 0

"No, Shanshan, what I mean is that we should go out to eat," Xin Yi quickly added, "just the two of us, okay?" 0

"Oh, I see! Sure! Where should we eat?" Shen Shanshan replied happily. In her heart, she felt even more delighted that Xin Yi wanted to take her out just the two of them; she happily thought that Xin Yi was planning a world for just the two of them. 0

"Shanshan, let's decide where to eat later. Come outside the courtyard; I should be at the military district gate in about ten minutes," Xin Yi said. 0

"Ah? You're already here? Why didn't you tell me earlier? I haven't changed yet," Shen Shanshan exclaimed. Upon hearing that Xin Yi would arrive in just ten minutes, she became a bit flustered. As the saying goes, a woman dresses up for the one she loves. Usually, it didn't matter what she wore at home, but in front of her crush, she had to look beautiful. Shen Shanshan hurriedly told Xin Yi on the phone, "Xin Yi, drive slowly. Can you wait for me at the gate when you arrive? I'll change and come out right away. Okay, that's settled!" 0

After hanging up, Shen Shanshan rushed upstairs to her room with remarkable agility, comparable to that of well-trained special forces soldiers. She gasped as she entered her room and opened her wardrobe while talking to herself: "Oh no, I'm so anxious! What should I wear?" 0

Xin Yi waited at the military district gate for nearly half an hour before Shen Shanshan hurriedly walked out. Today, she wore a light beige dress that accentuated her perfect figure and fair skin beautifully. The hem of the dress reached just above her knees, exposing her long and fair calves to the air, which was eye-catching. On her feet were delicate crystal sandals that made her look even more graceful. With light makeup enhancing her already exquisite face—arched eyebrows, big eyes, long eyelashes, and plump lips—she was captivating. Even the guard standing at the gate was drawn to Shen Shanshan, staring at her with wide eyes; the young soldier's masculine hormones were thrown into disarray. 0

Shen Shanshan approached Xin Yi's car, carefully opened the door, and sat down. Her face was flushed as if she had just engaged in some intense exercise; in reality, she had jogged to the gate and only slowed down upon seeing Xin Yi's car. She understood that men often found it annoying to wait for women to get ready but wanted to present their best selves to their crushes. Thus, she had to make up for lost time by running. As soon as she sat in the car, a faint scent of Gardenia wafted into Xin Yi's nose—this was Shen Shanshan's signature fragrance. He had also smelled it in her room that day. Remembering the intimate atmosphere from that day in Shen Shanshan's room made Xin Yi's heart flutter; he quickly held his breath and rolled down the window. 0

"I'm sorry I'm late," Shen Shanshan said softly with her head down. Her obedient demeanor was endearing and made Xin Yi feel an impulse to hold her close. Such a delicate girl was meant to be cherished and loved; however, he knew he would hurt her and make her sad. A pang of pain shot through his heart; if possible, he would rather endure any punishment than hurt such an innocent girl. 0

"No worries; waiting for you is expected," Xin Yi said without knowing why he chose those words—wasn't this deepening their relationship? 0

"Really? You think so? Thank you! You're so nice!" As expected, upon hearing this, Shen Shanshan immediately brightened up with a smile. She leaned against him and wrapped her arm around his elbow while resting her head on his shoulder playfully saying, "Xin Yi, what are you planning to take me out for today? Why is it just us two? Wouldn't it be livelier with everyone together?" 0

The mingling scents of Gardenia and youthful fragrance teased Xin Yi's senses as he felt her warm and soft hand around his arm. He steadied himself and took a deep breath before saying, "Shanshan, I brought you out today because I have something important to tell you... Alright, let's go." As he spoke, Xin Yi withdrew his right hand from Shen Shanshan's grip to start the car—igniting the engine, shifting gears—and Shen Shanshan awkwardly pulled back her hand and straightened up; she hadn't expected Xin Yi would end this seemingly casual moment of intimacy. 0

"By the way, Shanshan, what do you want to eat?" Xin Yi asked as he drove, sensing a subtle shift in the atmosphere and taking the initiative to break the silence. 0

"Didn't you invite me out? You haven't even thought about what to eat?" Shen Shanshan asked, a bit puzzled. Normally, one should plan carefully before asking a girl out, but Xin Yi seemed to have called her out without even deciding on a meal. However, Shen Shanshan wasn't angry; instead, she felt sweetly flattered. It must be that Xin Yi had missed her too much while abroad, which is why he was so eager to see her upon his return that he hadn't even considered what to eat. But what did it matter? Being together with someone you love, even if it’s just having thin porridge, is still a kind of happiness. 0

"I... I didn't know what you like to eat, so I didn't decide," Xin Yi covered up. 0

"Then let's just go with the flow; anything is fine," Shen Shanshan said cheerfully. "How about we buy some things and cook at home? My cooking is not worse than that of a restaurant." 0

"Weren't we supposed to be just the two of us? Let's eat out instead," Xin Yi replied. 0

"It is just the two of us! I'm not saying we should cook at my place; I meant at your Farm. Isn't it just the two of us there?" Shen Shanshan said, her face turning red at the end. What did she mean by 'just the two of us'? It sounded ambiguous, as if they were implying something that only two people could do together. 0
