Finally, it was noon, the time to eat. Xin Yi called over a waitress to order food. The dishes at Cuiwei Residence were quite unique, so the two casually ordered a few signature appetizers and continued chatting while waiting for the food to arrive. Since it was still early, there weren't many diners, and the dishes quickly came out. Xin Yi asked Shen Shanshan what she wanted to drink. Shen Shanshan replied that she would like some red wine, saying she felt like having a little today, perhaps because she was happy. So Xin Yi ordered a bottle of red wine and poured some into their glasses. Shen Shanshan raised her glass first and said, "Xin Yi, today is our second time having a meal together. Let's toast to that!" With that, Shen Shanshan gently clinked her glass against Xin Yi's and took a sip.
"Yes, that's right. The first time was at the Farm. But your cooking was really delicious. Here, try the chef's skills here; it's not bad," Xin Yi said as he picked up some food for Shen Shanshan.
Mentioning the Farm made Shen Shanshan's face flush a bit. That day, she had accidentally pulled off the blanket wrapped around her, exposing herself in front of Xin Yi. Every time she thought about it, she couldn't help but feel her cheeks heat up and her heart race. Was Xin Yi doing this on purpose by bringing it up again? However, Shen Shanshan didn't mind; in her heart, she had already considered herself to be Xin Yi's person. Although they didn't have an official relationship yet, she believed that day would come eventually.
"Well, you should eat too," Shen Shanshan said as she picked up some food for Xin Yi and asked, "Do you know how many years I've known you?"
"Um, I don't know. It should be around five or six years," Xin Yi replied.
"No, it's more than that," Shen Shanshan said. "This year marks exactly ten years. Ten years! So many things have happened in these ten years. I thought we would never have the chance to meet again, but heaven has been kind and let me meet you again." Shen Shanshan's eyes gradually misted over with tears. "So, for this ten years and for this wonderful heaven, cheers!" With tears in her eyes but a smile on her face, she raised her glass.
"Yes, for this ten years and for this wonderful heaven, cheers!" Xin Yi also raised his glass and unconsciously echoed her words.
The two glasses clinked together with a soft sound. Shen Shanshan smiled as she looked into Xin Yi's eyes and tilted her head back to drink it all in one go. However, Xin Yi noticed two glistening tears sliding down from the corners of her eyes to her ears. These two drops clearly represented the happiness that Shen Shanshan believed had finally come after enduring ten years of longing and waiting. Yet those tears deeply pierced Xin Yi's heart. The infatuated girl still didn't know his true intentions for today. If she found out what he was planning to say, how would she react? The happiness she thought had finally arrived was about to come to an end—what a blow that would be for her! Xin Yi couldn't bear to imagine it.
"Shan Shan, thank you!" Xin Yi finished his drink and said, "You're a good girl. I really regret not realizing your goodness sooner."
"Haha, silly! It's not too late now," Shen Shanshan said as she grabbed the wine bottle and poured more into both their glasses with a smile. "Now that you know, remember this: there's a girl named Shen Shanshan in this world who is wonderful, and you should treat her well; that's enough." After saying this, Shen Shanshan wasn't sure if she was blushing from her own words or from drinking two glasses of red wine; her little face turned bright red.
Xin Yi quickly shifted his gaze away; he was afraid that looking at Shen Shanshan like this would make him unable to bear saying even one word that could hurt this infatuated girl. What should he do? He increasingly felt ashamed of his actions. Why did he have to hurt her? Why did he have to make a choice? How did things come to this point where he couldn't decide? But things had to be resolved; continuing like this would only bring her deeper pain—not just for her but also for Lijie and Shu Rui who would be hurt in this emotional turmoil he had created.
He decided to finish the meal first. In his heart, he told himself that since it was inevitable he would hurt her, having even a moment more of happiness was good for both of them—a beautiful memory for them both in the future. "Shan Shan, come on, eat more," Xin Yi kept picking up food for Shen Shanshan until there was no more room on her plate but still continued serving her more.
"Are you trying to turn me into a fat lady?" Shen Shanshan said playfully, "Do you want me to grow into a cube that's as wide as it is tall? Go ahead and eat; I really can't eat anymore." As she spoke, she transferred some of the food from her plate to Xin Yi's, making them look like a caring couple.
Xin Yi had no choice but to accept the food Shen Shanshan offered and silently began to eat. Shen Shanshan was in high spirits, continuously clinking glasses with Xin Yi and drinking quite a bit of red wine. By the end, her face was as red as a ripe peach, and her big, watery eyes started to look dreamy. Eventually, she simply put down her chopsticks and rested her chin on her hand, gazing at Xin Yi as he ate.
Although Xin Yi had thick skin, he felt embarrassed under Shen Shanshan's gaze. He smiled and said to her, "Shanshan, why aren't you eating? Why are you staring at me? Is there something dirty on my face?"
Shen Shanshan giggled shyly and replied, "You just keep eating; I like watching you eat." It seemed that Shen Shanshan had drunk enough wine for the day, as her words became bold and fiery, completely shedding her usual shyness.
"Come on, eat a bit more; there's still so much left that I can't finish," Xin Yi said, pointing at the dishes on the table.
"Um, Xin Yi, can I have some more wine? Will you drink with me a little longer? I'm in a great mood today and want to keep drinking," Shen Shanshan said with a flushed face, almost like she was begging.
"Shanshan, let's not drink anymore, okay? Look at your face; it's already so red. If you drink more, you'll be drunk. Let's save it for next time," Xin Yi said, noticing that Shen Shanshan was already showing signs of intoxication. He didn't want her to drink any more; after all, how would he explain things to her if she got really drunk?
"No way! I just want to drink with you today," Shen Shanshan's voice turned completely into a playful whine. "Please? I promise I won't get drunk; just one more glass with me? Next time, I won't drink anymore!"
Unable to resist Shen Shanshan's request, Xin Yi called over the waiter for another bottle of red wine. Just as the waiter turned to leave, Shen Shanshan suddenly leaned over and quickly pecked Xin Yi's cheek before sitting back down in her seat. Xin Yi was momentarily stunned; when he finally looked at Shen Shanshan again, she was blushing and said, "You're so nice; this is a reward for you."
Eventually realizing that Shen Shanshan was indeed drunk, Xin Yi took the cup from her hand. She then leaned into his embrace and refused to move away. He called out to her several times, but she acted as if she were asleep and ignored him. Unable to push her away forcefully, he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and called for the waiter to settle the bill. As they left Cuiwei Residence, several waitstaff shot Xin Yi disdainful looks, implying that he seemed like a scoundrel for getting a woman drunk.
Once he helped Shen Shanshan into the passenger seat of the car, she finally emerged from his embrace and leaned back against the seat. Xin Yi closed the door and walked around to the driver's side. Just as he sat down in his seat, Shen Shanshan suddenly said, "Let's go home!"
Looking at her hazy eyes, Xin Yi replied, "So you're not asleep after all? Alright then, I'll take you home."
"I'm not going back, I mean back to your place, back to the Farm!" Shen Shanshan said.
"I'll take you home then," Xin Yi replied. In the past, it might have been a good idea to wait until Shen Shanshan sobered up before talking to her about going back to the Farm, but now Lijie was at the Farm. There was no way he could take Shen Shanshan back there; Xin Yi didn't want to escalate things to that ridiculous level.
"Then... let's go to a hotel. Anyway... I'm not going back!" Shen Shanshan insisted. Little did Xin Yi know that Shen Shanshan had intentionally drunk so much today. Her goal was to accomplish something incredibly important in her life; she wanted to give herself to Xin Yi. She wanted to truly become Xin Yi's woman. In fact, during their last visit to the Farm, Shen Shanshan had already sensed the desire in Xin Yi's eyes for her. Later, in her own bedroom, she saw that same longing in his eyes again. It wasn't that Shen Shanshan was unwilling; she just wasn't ready yet. After all, she would eventually be Xin Yi's. Seeing the desire in the eyes of the one she loved made Shen Shanshan happy; it at least proved that she was attractive to him. She wasn't the type of girl who insisted on saving herself for the very end. In terms of feelings, she cared much more about Xin Yi's feelings than her own. Therefore, she could do anything for him, including fulfilling his desires. So before coming today, Shen Shanshan had already prepared herself to truly become Xin Yi's woman.
Upon hearing Shen Shanshan's words, Xin Yi was taken aback. Shen Shanshan couldn't have been more obvious with her intentions, yet he couldn't act on it. Although he loved her too, he absolutely could not ruin this good girl's life out of selfishness. Thus, Xin Yi suppressed his excitement and calmly said, "Shan Shan, let me take you home. If you're not too drunk, I still have something to say to you."
This time it was Shen Shanshan's turn to be stunned. She couldn't understand why Xin Yi would reject her. Was it because she wasn't attractive enough? But just a little while ago, she had clearly felt his desire for her. Was it because she had been too proactive that he thought of her as an easy girl and disliked her? Shen Shanshan suddenly felt a wave of grievance wash over her; everything she did was for Xin Yi! If it were anyone else asking her out for dinner, she wouldn't even consider it. Yet here she was, mustering up so much courage only for him, and he rejected her! Thinking of this made tears stream down Shen Shanshan's face as she abruptly pushed open the car door and jumped out. However, since she had indeed drunk too much, she stumbled and fell beside the car.
