At the Capital Train Station, Shen Shanshan tightly nestled in Xin Yi's embrace. The crowd at the train station seemed overwhelming to her, and she appeared to be quite fearful of such a bustling environment. Perhaps deep down, she believed that humans were the most dangerous animals to one another. Fortunately, Xin Yi stayed close by her side, which helped her feel a bit more at ease. Due to Shen Shanshan's condition, she could not take a flight, so Xin Yi arranged for Mother Shen to take Aunt Wu and Big Bull back to Longchuan by plane while he accompanied Shen Shanshan on the train.
The high-speed train from the capital to Longchuan was now operational, reducing the travel time from over twenty hours to just over ten. It was still bearable. Xin Yi had purchased soft sleeper tickets because Shen Shanshan needed to rest given her current mental state. After boarding, Xin Yi found their compartment but was taken aback when he opened the door; there was already someone inside. That person was none other than Roxy, the mixed-race beauty who had borrowed Xin Yi's room to take a shower at the Troop Guesthouse. Roxy was sitting on the lower bunk on the left and seemed pleasantly surprised to see Xin Yi there. She smiled and said, "Hi, is it really you? This world is so small! Are you in this compartment?"
Seeing someone suddenly greet Xin Yi made Shen Shanshan nervous, and she burrowed deeper into his embrace, clutching his shirt while watching Roxy warily. "Wow, the world really is small! By the way, Miss Roxy, where are you headed?" Xin Yi asked as he hugged Shen Shanshan and walked into the compartment, taking a seat on the right bunk.
"Oh, I heard that every city in Heavenly Pride Nation has its own unique scenery, so I decided to explore each city there. My first stop is Binhai," Roxy replied. "It's also my father's hometown. By the way, who is this beautiful lady? Can you introduce us?"
"This is Shen Shanshan; she is my... fiancée," Xin Yi said while holding Shen Shanshan close. "However, she's been unwell lately, so please forgive her for not being able to greet you."
"Shen Shanshan? Hmm, she's really beautiful. What illness does she have? Is it untreatable?" Roxy gazed intently at Shen Shanshan in Xin Yi's arms with sympathy.
"She's currently undergoing treatment," Xin Yi gently patted Shen Shanshan's back and leaned down to softly ask her, "Shan Shan, do you want to rest for a bit?" Shen Shanshan turned to look at Roxy across from them and then looked up at Xin Yi and asked, "Xin Yi, who is she?"
"Oh, she's Roxy; she's a friend who will be sharing this compartment with us," Xin Yi replied gently.
Suddenly, Shen Shanshan exclaimed, "No! She can't stay in the same compartment with us!"
"Why not?" Xin Yi asked. "She bought a ticket for this compartment and can stay here. Shan Shan, be good; Roxy is our friend."
"No! She is not a friend! Xin Yi can only accompany me!" Shen Shanshan said loudly.
"Alright, I'll only accompany Shan Shan; I won't accompany anyone else besides her. Is that okay? Let's rest for a bit; you're tired," Xin Yi agreed with Shen Shanshan's sentiment.
"Well, you can stay with me while I sleep."
After a long time, Shen Shanshan finally fell asleep quietly, while Roxy continued to watch Xin Yi and Shen Shanshan with great interest. Xin Yi gently pulled her hand out from under Shen Shanshan's body and sat up. "You are Xin Yi?" Roxy asked with a smile.
"Yes, that's right. You just said Binhai is also your father's hometown?" Since the journey was long, having someone to talk to was nice, so Xin Yi took the initiative to ask.
"Yes, my father is from Binhai, but he left for Lusang Nation many years ago. My mother is from Lusang Nation. I came to Heavenly Pride this time to visit my father's hometown and also to study contemporary architecture in Heavenly Pride Nation. By the way, I forgot to tell you that I am studying architectural design. My doctoral thesis aims to focus on contemporary architecture in Heavenly Pride Nation... Oh, Xin Yi, this train is heading towards Binhai; you aren't from Binhai too, are you?" Roxy spoke confidently.
"Ha ha, you guessed it right. Both Shen Shanshan and I are from Binhai, specifically Longchuan City." Xin Yi replied.
"Really? That's wonderful!" Roxy exclaimed excitedly. "Since you are a local from Binhai, could I ask you to be my guide? You see, this is my first time in Heavenly Pride Nation; I don't know any roads or anything at all. Would that be okay?"
"Ha ha, I would be happy to assist you, but as you can see, my fiancée can't be away from me for even a moment. I think I might not have the time to be your guide. However, once you're in Binhai, you can definitely find a local person to guide you; the people of Binhai are very hospitable," Xin Yi said jokingly. Since you've considered yourself a foreign friend, I'll treat you with the same friendliness as I would a foreign guest. Speaking of deception, Heavenly Pride Nation has a long history of it.
"What does that matter? You can bring your fiancée along to be my guide too! That way you can accompany your fiancée while helping me; isn't that killing two birds with one stone? As a hospitable citizen of Heavenly Pride, I'm sure you wouldn't refuse me," Roxy said with a sincere expression.
"Alright then, if that's the case, but you'll need to pay me for my services as a guide. If I'm guiding you, I won't be able to go to work; no work means no pay. I think this little compensation should be acceptable for you," Xin Yi said with a shrewd look as if he really intended to take advantage of this international friend.
In truth, both of them were secretly cursing in their hearts: "Pretending! I see how you're pretending! Let's see how long you can keep it up!"
"Sure, I'll definitely pay you for your services. Now give me your phone number; I'll call you when I need your help," Roxy said readily. "After I return to Binhai, I'll first stay at my father's old home for a few days before starting my research. Just wait for my call then."
Xin Yi provided Roxy with his contact information. Regardless of her intentions, since that day when they borrowed a room at the guesthouse for a shower, Xin Yi had already sensed that Roxy was deliberately getting close to him. She might think everything was proceeding quite naturally and that she was just creating one coincidence after another. However, just based on how she could approach him silently that day in the guesthouse room, Xin Yi knew this woman was not simple at all. At the very least, she had considerable Kung Fu skills; according to her own words, it was strange for a doctoral student studying architectural design to have such profound Kung Fu skills. So no matter what her purpose was in getting close to him, Xin Yi was eager to uncover this mystery and simply agreed to go along with her suggestion for now.
Shen Shanshan only woke up twice during the journey. After Xin Yi fed her some food, she fell back into a deep sleep. Right now, Shen Shanshan resembled a small child, either nestled in Xin Yi's arms or sleeping. It seemed that nothing else could capture her interest. Xin Yi chatted casually with Roxy, and before long, more than ten hours had passed. When the train stopped at Coastal Train Station, Roxy got off and reminded Xin Yi to call her in a few days.
By the time the train arrived at Longchuan Train Station, it was already late at night. Shen Shanshan was still fast asleep. Xin Yi called her name a couple of times without waking her, so he simply carried her off the train toward the exit. At the exit, Shen Liwei was already waiting. Upon seeing Xin Yi carrying Shen Shanshan, he rushed over and exclaimed, "What kind of incompetent doctors are at Capital Military District Hospital?! Just a little fall and it has affected Shanshan's spirit? I can't believe it! Xin Yi, don't you agree?"
"Yeah, Shanshan is asleep now; let's talk about it when we get back," Xin Yi replied to Shen Liwei. Shen Liwei's loud voice attracted the attention of passersby, and Xin Yi didn't want to be looked down upon.
"Then let's go. My car is over there. These damn station police won't even let my car come to the exit! Damn it! If I weren't afraid of being scolded by Shanshan, I would have beaten a few of them today!" Shen Liwei continued to grumble as they walked.
Xin Yi placed Shen Shanshan in the back seat of Shen Liwei's military jeep. Shen Shanshan woke up startled and looked fearfully at Shen Liwei driving in front. Nervously curling up in Xin Yi's arms, she asked, "Xin Yi, who is he?" Before Xin Yi could respond, Shen Liwei shouted from the front seat, "Shanshan, don't joke around! If you don't even recognize me, how could you possibly know this kid Xin Yi? Hahaha... I knew you were just fooling me! How could my sister really lose her mind? I know my own sister too well for that! Hahaha... You can't fool me with this trick, right Shanshan?"
"Shanshan, he's your brother, named Shen Liwei. Do you remember him?" Xin Yi gently said to the curled-up Shen Shanshan without acknowledging Shen Liwei's self-importance. However, Shen Shanshan only stared blankly with her beautiful big eyes; clearly, in her mind, she no longer recognized what a brother was. Now she didn't recognize anyone except for Xin Yi and wouldn't let anyone else get close.
"No way? Shanshan!" Suddenly, Shen Liwei slammed on the brakes in the middle of the road. Cars behind them screeched to a halt as horns blared and shouts filled the air. Yet Shen Liwei was completely oblivious; he turned around with an incredulous look at Shen Shanshan and said, "You really don’t remember your brother? You can’t actually be mentally unstable?! Shanshan, please don’t scare me like this!"
"Li Wei, this is true; Shanshan's mental state is temporarily a bit problematic. However, we will find a way to treat her. Hurry up and drive; we can talk more when we get back. We’ve caused quite a traffic jam behind us," Xin Yi urged Shen Liwei to drive quickly; otherwise, the drivers stuck behind would surely be angry.
"What’s all this noise about?! Haven't you seen military personnel on a mission? Believe it or not, I’ll take you all to the mountains to do hard labor! Hey! I'm talking to you! The one driving the BMW—just because you're in a BMW makes you special? Come here so I can check your alcohol level; who knows if you're driving under the influence!" Shen Liwei leaned out of the car window and pointed at the cars behind them while shouting arrogantly.
