The giant python found its tail sweep to be quite effective. After knocking over several Taiwan Soldiers, it became unstoppable, continuously sweeping with its massive and powerful tail. In the blink of an eye, more soldiers were sent flying, and the remaining few were pale and lifeless, forgetting to pull the trigger on their Carbines, standing dumbly in place. As the python continued its fierce assault, the Chubby Officer suddenly pulled two grenades from his waist, pulled the pins, and threw them at the crazed python. Although the python had developed some intelligence, it did not recognize the hissing, smoking objects as a threat and did not understand how to evade them. There were two thunderous explosions as the grenades detonated near the python, sending it soaring five to six meters into the air. When it fell, it landed precariously on two thick branches, swaying unsteadily.
While the Taiwan Soldiers were powerless against the giant python, they recognized grenades well enough. Seeing the Chubby Officer throw two grenades, they quickly dropped to the ground and thus avoided serious injury, only getting covered in dirt and fallen leaves. After the explosions, when they saw that the giant python was hanging motionless from the branches, they cautiously got up from the ground and looked at the massive creature while still remembering to flatter their superior: "You're truly impressive, big brother! You took care of that monster with just one move!"
However, the officer did not let his success go to his head. He glanced at the giant python on the branch and then at his soldiers. He had brought sixteen men into the jungle to capture smugglers but had encountered this monster instead. After one battle, five were dead and five injured; now only he and seven others remained capable of fighting. This was truly bad luck—how could they have come across such a gigantic Jungle Python? What Leixu did not know was that the Jungle Python had been napping in the tree when he led his soldiers in shooting their Carbines to investigate if any smugglers were nearby. This disturbance had awakened the python from its nap, making it very angry. The consequences were severe as it quickly slid down from the tree to show these audacious intruders what it was capable of. Even more infuriating was that these intruders dared to fight back with those irritating little things that tickled its skin. The python thought: If I don't show my power, will you still think I'm just a little reptile? Thus, it decided to unleash its fury, leading to what happened next.
The officer looked at several injured soldiers groaning on the ground—some with broken arms or legs, and one with a gaping hole in his abdomen exposing his intestines. Frowning, he addressed those still able to fight: "Do you still want to pursue those smugglers? Do you still want your bounty?"
The surviving soldiers did not hesitate for a moment and replied loudly: "Of course we do!"
"Then," said the officer, pointing at the injured on the ground, "we must go light; we can't be dragged down by them if we want to go anywhere. You handle this!" His words meant that the surviving soldiers should kill their injured comrades so they could maintain their combat effectiveness; otherwise, being burdened by wounded men would render them completely ineffective.
The surviving soldiers paused briefly but quickly understood what their officer meant. However, there was no trace of pity or sympathy in their eyes as they resolved to carry out his orders for a chance at potential rewards.
At this moment, the injured on the ground heard what their officer said about putting them to death. Two of those still somewhat strong pleaded: "Big brother! Please spare us! We can fend for ourselves here! Don’t kill us! We’ve always called you big brother; you’ve treated us like brothers; you can’t be so heartless!"
"I'm sorry, brothers," said the officer. "It's precisely because we are brothers that you shouldn't block our path to wealth. Staying here means certain death for you; rather than slowly dying from your injuries, let Brothers send you off—it’s better for everyone, right? If Brothers get rich later on, we'll remember you."
"Leixu! Screw you!" One injured soldier realized pleading wouldn’t save him and decided to curse instead: "Leixu, you bloodsucking bastard! We all treated you like a big brother while you cut our pay! You take half every time we divide money! You monopolize every good thing! You bastard! You even slept with my sister! And now you don’t even remember this little bit of friendship! I’m dead anyway; I’ll take you down with me!" As he cursed, he stealthily drew a small pistol from his waist. Just as he finished speaking, he aimed it at Leixu and fired. Blood gushed from between his eyes as he stared in disbelief before collapsing lifelessly onto the ground. Leixu stood holding a smoking pistol.
Leixu coolly blew on his gun barrel like a Western cowboy and mocked: "You really don’t know how to appreciate kindness! Do you think I don’t know your worth? Trying an ambush? The moment your butt lifts up I know whether you're taking a dump or peeing! Damn! And you dare bring up your sister? She’s so dry she has no flavor; if I didn’t see her as a virgin I’d think she was just bones! Damn!" After cursing Leixu noticed that several men hadn’t acted yet and yelled: "What are you waiting for?! Am I supposed to count down for you?! Damn! A bunch of stupid donkeys!"
Gunshots rang out as several groaning injured soldiers fell silent and peacefully transitioned to another world—a world without war, smugglers, or Jungle Pythons; more importantly, without Leixu—thus they were fortunate indeed.
Having dealt with the situation, Leixu said to the remaining few, "Those smugglers definitely haven't gotten far. Let's continue chasing in that direction; we can surely catch them. The ransom will be ours! Hahaha... I helped you all get rid of a few competitors for the money, so you should give me a bigger share! Hahaha..."
"Yes, yes, big brother should indeed get a larger share," several soldiers hurriedly replied. They had witnessed Leixu's cruelty and could only hope to avoid becoming victims themselves; otherwise, they would still face the fate of being killed by their own.
"Good, it's nice to see you understand!" Leixu said with satisfaction. "Now let's go! Keep pursuing those smugglers! When we catch them, we must demand a hefty ransom! We've put our lives on the line for this!" As he spoke, Leixu directed the surviving soldiers toward the direction where Xin Yi and the others were hiding.
As they reached beneath the Jungle Python, one soldier looked up. The giant python was resting on branches five to six meters high, but its head hung down just over two meters above the ground. The soldier tiptoed and poked the python's head with his Carbine barrel, chuckling, "Hehehe... big brother, I wonder if we could sell this thing for some money?"
"Are you stupid? How much do you think this thing is worth? Besides, who knows how heavy it is? Why don't you carry it back?" Leixu scolded. "Stop wasting time and focus on catching those smugglers!"
These Taiwan Soldiers were relentless; they would rather kill their own comrades than let Xin Yi and his group escape. It seemed that this kind of pursuit would surely lead to Xin Yi and his companions being relentlessly hunted down. Xin Yi had initially thought they would retreat with their fallen comrades after suffering heavy losses from the giant python, but he did not expect these people to be so stubbornly driven by greed. It seemed they had to be completely eliminated.
Just as Xin Yi decided to wipe out the remaining Taiwan Soldiers, an unexpected scene unfolded before him. He saw the Jungle Python slowly raise its massive head, which had been hanging down, silently moving toward the last soldier's head—the same soldier who had just poked it with his gun barrel. The python's head was now directly above him, yet the soldier remained oblivious. Suddenly, the python's mouth opened wide like a massive black hole and swiftly lunged at the soldier, swallowing his upper body in one bite. The soldier's cries for help echoed as he struggled, and his Carbine fired wildly as bullets flew everywhere, causing the soldiers in front to drop to the ground in panic. After swallowing the soldier's upper body, the python twisted its body and lifted its head high; the soldier's legs kicked frantically outside its mouth.
The soldiers were completely terrified. They had thought that the Jungle Python was dead from a grenade explosion but were now witnessing it come back to life and devour one of their own. A wave of sheer terror engulfed them as they screamed frantically, "Kill it! Kill it! Kill!" They fired their Carbines wildly at the python; at this moment, reason had left them entirely, driven purely by instinct—a primal fear compelling them to shoot at the giant snake. Even Leixu was flustered; he randomly fired his pistol at the python until his magazine was empty but continued pulling the trigger...
This was an excellent opportunity to take them all down. Xin Yi calmly switched his Type 79 submachine gun to automatic mode when someone beside him tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "Let's go! If we don't leave now, there won't be another chance!" Xin Yi turned to see it was Yanming Shop Elder calling him; somehow, the old man had made his way to his side.
