The Wolves from Beng Hu Company were clearly dissatisfied with Xin Yi's explanation that he and Roxy were just close brothers, so they continued to jeer, "Even if the explanation of Third-in-Command can pass, why would Roxy drink on your behalf? If it's just brotherhood, heh heh heh... that doesn't really make sense, does it?" 0

However, Xin Yi had anticipated their response and smiled, "Didn't I just ask you all if one day I, Xin Yi, encountered difficulties, would my good brothers help me without hesitation? Didn't you say that since we are good brothers, you would go through fire and water for me no matter what difficulties I faced? How come you've forgotten that so quickly?" 0

"We certainly won't forget that, but how does this relate to your relationship with Roxy?" Wolves persisted. 0

"Look at what you're saying," Xin Yi laughed. "Roxy is also my close brother, and the difficulty I'm facing right now is getting drunk. Roxy drinking on my behalf is precisely him helping me as a good brother, isn't that reason sufficient? Hehehe..." 0

"That's just playing tricks! That's a flimsy excuse! Third-in-Command is really cunning! No way! We won't accept such reasoning!" The protests from Wolves rose higher and higher, showing no signs of backing down. 0

Amidst the noise and commotion from everyone, Roxy, who had been silent until now, suddenly picked up a bottle of liquor from the table, twisted off the cap, and loudly declared, "What Third-in-Command said is correct! He and I are indeed close brothers! Brothers for life! For the sake of a good brother, let's drink!" After speaking, she raised the bottle and gulped it down. Her fierce drinking style made many men feel ashamed. Roxy's action undoubtedly brought the celebration to another peak. Seeing such a beautiful woman drink so boldly made Wolves forget their earlier intentions to tease Xin Yi. Besides, men couldn't let women outdo them, so everyone responded enthusiastically—some raised glasses while others chugged from bottles, defiantly drinking with Roxy. 0

Roxy tilted her head back and poured the strong liquor into her mouth. It was unclear whether it was the spiciness of the liquor or something else; tears streamed down her cheeks and flowed along the sides of her nose to her lips. The bitter tears mixed with the spicy liquor as she swallowed. 0

Worried that Roxy might overdo it and get drunk, Xin Yi gently tugged at her hand and whispered in her ear, "Alright, just a little is enough; otherwise you'll get drunk!" However, Roxy angrily shook off his hand and ignored him as she continued to gulp from the bottle. Xin Yi didn't want to snatch the bottle from her in front of so many brothers. He knew very well why Roxy was upset; however, what else could he say? Xin Yi admitted that he had an indescribable feeling for Roxy but couldn't face it—or rather didn't dare to face it. He already owed too much and couldn't afford to add more emotional debt. 0

Seeing that Roxy was unwilling to acknowledge him made Xin Yi feel a pang of disappointment. He found an excuse to go to the restroom and stepped outside for some fresh air. Arriving at a window in the corridor overlooking the street, he pushed open the glass. A cool breeze rushed in, shaking his drowsy mind awake. He leaned out of the window and took deep breaths of fresh air. Just then, he suddenly spotted a figure exiting the hotel below. The sight sent shockwaves through Xin Yi's heart; he rubbed his eyes in disbelief—no doubt about it; that figure was so familiar! So familiar that he could almost smell that familiar scent! Of course, since Xin Yi was on the fifth floor of the hotel, it was impossible for him to actually smell anything; it was merely his feeling—a sensation stirred within him. At that moment, the figure walked straight towards a car in the parking lot. Xin Yi jumped up and dashed toward the elevator; however, waiting for the elevator had never felt so long before. He rushed toward the stairwell exit and bolted out of the hotel doors like a madman but found that the car in the parking lot had long since disappeared. 0

This hotel was specifically set up for high-ranking officials of Guokan's government and did not operate publicly; thus its security measures were quite strict. There was an Outpost at the entrance outside the parking lot. Xin Yi rushed over to ask the Outpost staff, "Which direction did that black SUV go when it just left?" 0

The Outpost staff knew that anyone who could dine at this hotel had some background—especially since Lord Toast was hosting a banquet there today—so there shouldn't be any ordinary people around. He respectfully pointed in the direction where the car had departed and replied, "That black SUV just went in that direction; it left no more than two minutes ago." 0

"Is there a car? Can I borrow one?" Xin Yi urgently called out. 0

"A car? I only have a motorcycle; would that work?" The Outpost staff pointed nervously at a nearby motorcycle. 0

"Key, the key!" Xin Yi shouted. 0

"Oh, the key." The Outpost reached for the key hanging from his belt, but for some reason, he couldn't get it off after a long time. At that moment, Xin Yi couldn't care less; he swiftly moved to the Outpost's side. The Outpost felt a light tug on his belt and turned to see Xin Yi already on the motorcycle, starting it up. With a roar, the motorcycle shot off like an arrow. The Outpost could hardly believe that the speeding motorcycle was the same old clunker he usually rode, which only made noise except for its horn. Was it really necessary to ride it so fiercely just because someone else was on it? In the blink of an eye, both rider and bike disappeared at the end of the road. The Outpost finally closed his mouth, which had been agape in surprise, and touched his waist. Oh no, this person was really inconsiderate; he had even torn his belt buckle off. He would surely be scolded by his wife when he got home. Suddenly, he remembered something and muttered, "I forgot to tell him that the motorcycle is low on fuel." 0

Xin Yi rode the motorcycle down the road at high speed. In his haste, he hadn't worn a helmet; the wind hitting his face felt like knives cutting into his skin. But he was oblivious to it and pressed the throttle to the max, still feeling that the speed wasn't fast enough. Fortunately, this road had no intersections for quite a distance. After about five minutes of chasing, Xin Yi finally spotted the black SUV ahead. The SUV was also moving quickly, weaving through traffic and overtaking several cars in no time. Xin Yi's advantage on the motorcycle lay in its small size and agility; he could maneuver through traffic like an eel. When there was no gap available, he would dart onto the opposite lane or sidewalk. Thus, Xin Yi's motorcycle was getting closer and closer to the black SUV. 0

Finally, they were only about ten meters apart. Xin Yi honked furiously while driving, and eventually, his unusual behavior caught the attention of the driver in front. The driver glanced in the rearview mirror in disbelief before rolling down the window and turning to look at Xin Yi on the motorcycle. However, instead of slowing down or stopping, he rolled up the window and stepped on the gas to speed away even faster. 0

The chase continued for about twenty minutes. Although the SUV was fast, Xin Yi drove recklessly on his motorcycle, keeping their distance around twenty meters apart. Suddenly, Xin Yi felt his motorcycle slow down abruptly as if something had snagged it while its wheels were spinning at high speed. Due to inertia, his body was thrown off the seat like a cannonball launched into the air. No matter how skilled Xin Yi was at controlling himself, he couldn't stop his body from flying forward. After soaring through the air for about ten meters, he landed heavily on the ground and rolled several times before coming to a stop while the motorcycle tumbled into the middle of the road, its steel frame sparking against the concrete. 0

The driver of the black SUV saw this thrilling scene in his rearview mirror and suddenly shouted, "Xin Yi!" He slammed on the brakes with a screeching sound as tires left long black marks on the road while a pungent smell of burning rubber filled the air. Without waiting for the vehicle to come to a complete stop, he flung open his door and rushed toward where Xin Yi had fallen, calling out anxiously, "Xin Yi! Are you okay? Did you get hurt?" 0

He ran over and helped Xin Yi up from the ground but found him motionless with closed eyes. He immediately pulled him into an embrace as tears streamed down his face. "Xin Yi! Xin Yi! How are you? Please wake up! Don't scare me!" 0

The tears fell onto Xin Yi's face as he suddenly opened his mouth and licked them away with his tongue. "Bitter and astringent; how can these eyes endure such bitter tears? How strange! It's alright dear; your husband isn't that easy to kill. Stop crying now." As he spoke, Xin Yi opened his eyes with a mischievous grin at the woman holding him who was now in tears. 0

"You?! You were just messing with me?!" The woman holding Xin Yi jumped back in shock at his sudden words before realizing she had been tricked by him. Angrily she said, "You just love to fool me! Do you find it amusing to see me looking like a fool?" With that, she pushed him away and stood up. 0

"Ouch! My waist! Did you want to murder your husband?" Xin Yi cried out as he fell back onto the road from her push and winced in pain. Seeing him in such agony sent panic through her eyes as she quickly crouched down again to hold him tightly while asking anxiously, "Where does it hurt? Is it your waist? What happened? Let me see!" 0

"It hurts here," Xin Yi said as he grabbed her hand and placed it on his chest. "It’s my heart that hurts; it's been aching for a long time since you left that day. Lijie, why did you leave without saying goodbye? Didn't you know I can't live without you?" This woman was indeed Lijie, who had left without notice due to being hurt by Shen Shanshan's incident; as for why she ended up at Guokan—more on that later. 0

"Do you have any injuries or not? If you're fine then I'm leaving!" Lijie saw that Xin Yi could still flirt despite everything and figured he must be okay; thus she pushed him away again but this time her movements were much gentler. She coldly said, "And please mind your words; what do you mean by 'wife' or 'husband'? We were only acquaintances long ago; we have no relationship anymore so please don’t follow me or disturb my peaceful life." 0

Lijie finished speaking and turned around, walking towards her car without looking back... 0
