“ Chen Xiaoxiao,” she answered softly, her hands tightly gripping the Pillow, her fingertips turning white.
Officer Li questioned both Chen Feng and Chen Xiaoxiao.
Chen Feng's statement was calm and organized; he explained the unusual occurrences in the room as a circuit malfunction and stated that he and Chen Xiaoxiao were merely friends.
Chen Xiaoxiao appeared more flustered, her responses hesitant and evasive, as if she was deliberately concealing something. Officer Li keenly picked up on these details, deepening his suspicions.
Afterward, Officer Li approached Aunt Wang again to inquire about her reasons for calling the police.
Aunt Wang's eyes flickered as she hesitantly revised her previous testimony, claiming she had only heard sounds resembling a cat's meow and might have misheard.
The contradictory testimonies further convinced Officer Li that there was definitely more to this situation.
Meanwhile, my soul state became increasingly unstable. The lights in the room flickered more frequently, and the temperature dropped sharply. Chen Xiaoxiao wrapped herself tightly in a blanket, rubbing her hands together and breathing into them. The clock on the wall spun wildly, making a ticking sound before suddenly stopping.
I felt a wave of dizziness, as if I might dissipate at any moment.
I realized I could slightly influence electronic devices. A thought crossed my mind: perhaps I could try leaving a message on the phone. I floated to the bedside table, concentrating my energy on Chen Feng's phone.
The screen lit up, and I struggled to control my "invisible" fingers to attempt unlocking the phone.
The unlock pattern was incredibly familiar to me; it was our anniversary. I trembled as I "drew" the pattern, successfully unlocking the phone.
I opened the messaging interface, wanting to input a message, but found myself unable to control the input method. In a moment of panic, I randomly tapped the screen and accidentally dialed a number—Officer Li's phone.
"Beep... beep..." The call connected.
"Hello?" Officer Li's voice came through the phone.
"Help... help me..." I exerted all my strength to let out a faint cry for help, my voice intermittent and mixed with the buzzing sound of electrical interference, sounding like some sort of electronic disturbance.
Hearing the strange noises on the line, Officer Li furrowed his brow. "Hello? Who is this?" he asked again, his tone laced with confusion.
All that could be heard from the other end was the sporadic buzzing and a weak whimper. Sensing something was off, Officer Li glanced at the caller ID and saw it was an unfamiliar number. "Strange..." he murmured to himself, jotting down the number.
After hanging up, Officer Li immediately began investigating the owner of that number. Soon, he discovered that it belonged to Chen Feng.
He recalled Chen Feng's evasive eyes and Chen Xiaoxiao's panicked expression, as well as Aunt Wang's contradictory testimony. A vague feeling stirred within him that this case might not be as simple as it appeared.
Officer Li decided to delve deeper into my background and relationships.
He visited my friends and colleagues, learning about the deep bond I shared with Chen Feng and discovering Chen Xiaoxiao's existence. He began to suspect that my death might not have been an accident.
Chen Feng took Chen Xiaoxiao back to the hotel, promising to visit her often. Upon returning to his apartment, he found the place in disarray, with lights flickering erratically. Feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over him, he sank onto the sofa and lit a cigarette.
My spirit floated beside him, silently weeping. "Chen Feng... why don't you believe me..." I reached out my hand, wanting to touch his cheek, but once again passed through him. A sense of despair enveloped me, as if I were falling into an endless abyss.
Chen Feng took a deep puff of smoke and slowly exhaled a ring, the haze enveloping his slightly tired face. He picked up his phone and noticed a missed call from Officer Li.
After a moment of hesitation, he decided to call back.
"Hello, Officer Li?" Chen Feng's voice was low and hoarse.
On the other end, Officer Li's serious voice came through, "Mr. Chen Feng, we need you to cooperate with the investigation again." Chen Feng's fingers instinctively tightened around the phone.
