When it was Zhang Yang's turn for the exam, it was already the afternoon of the third day, and the examination took place in the medical room of the Blade Training Camp.
At this point, only 16 people remained who had not been eliminated. If Zhang Yang passed, there would be only 17 left. Moreover, Qi Shen, Liang Ming, Shi Qing, and Qin Wen had all passed, observing from the side with relaxed expressions, as they all believed that Zhang Yang would pass easily. Liang Ming even gave five people a title: Five Tiger Generals of Mountain and Sea.
There were two examiners: Time Rush and Kuro Sijin. In reality, Kuro Sijin was merely a figurehead; although he sat in the room facing Zhang Yang, he didn't even know what content was being tested. He was only there because he was the chief instructor and it was the final exam, so Time Rush brought him in to lend some authority to the proceedings. Thus, while he appeared to be sitting upright, he was just as much an observer as the other students.
Zhang Yang stood before the two examiners, waiting for the exam to begin.
"The first question: What is blood pressure?" Time Rush asked.
"It is the lateral pressure exerted on the walls of blood vessels by flowing blood," Zhang Yang replied.
"The second question: Name a few herbs that can stop bleeding."
"What type of hemostatic herbs are you referring to?"
"How many types do you know?"
"As far as I know, there are four major categories: cooling blood to stop bleeding, resolving stasis to stop bleeding, astringent herbs to stop bleeding, and warming channels to stop bleeding."
"Tell me about astringent herbs used for treating injuries."
"Xianhecao (Herba Agrimoniae), Zizhu Cao (Herba Ziziphus), Baiqi (Radix Bletillae), Ou Jie (Lotus Rhizome)."
"The third question, and also the last one: If one of your sworn enemies suffered cardiac arrest due to electric shock, would you perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on him?"
"No."
As soon as Zhang Yang answered, a buzz of chatter erupted among the observing students. "Damn, this is an exam. You usually hate evil and can easily take down your enemies; can't you tell a little lie during the exam? A healer's compassion, isn't that what this question is testing?" Liang Ming whispered, looking as if he understood the situation.
Kuro Sijin was both surprised and worried. He knew that Time Rush had never experienced the battlefield of blood and fire, the trials of life and death, and had never actively harmed anyone. All she usually did was save people. For this question, the standard answer would certainly be to set aside hatred and prioritize saving lives. However, Zhang Yang's response actually aligned with the thoughts of quite a few people in terms of human nature, but as this was an exam about injury treatment, it was likely he wouldn't score any points.
The chief examiner, Time Rush, showed no change in expression and continued to ask, "Is it because he is your enemy that you won't perform artificial respiration?"
"No," Zhang Yang replied.
"The exam is over; you have passed." Time Rush paused for a moment before saying this. She then stood up, preparing to leave the examination room. If one were to observe her gaze closely at that moment, they would notice it was filled with admiration for Zhang Yang.
"What’s going on here? Can you enlighten us a bit?" After Time Rush and Kuro Sijin left, Liang Ming walked over to Zhang Yang, and other students gathered around.
"The first question was a common sense question; it wasn't about the question itself but rather your understanding of blood pressure. I didn't use the textbook explanation but organized my thoughts simply; the second question involved outdoor first aid..." Zhang Yang began to explain but was interrupted by Liang Ming before he could finish.
"Don't be so pretentious! Of course, I'm asking about the third question."
"The key to the third question isn't whether he is my enemy but rather that in cases of cardiac arrest due to electric shock, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation is not appropriate. This is based on relatively new research. In cases of cardiac arrest, the harms of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation outweigh its benefits. Skipping mouth-to-mouth resuscitation allows us to focus on rhythmic chest compressions to restore heart function. Not only does this increase the patient's chances of survival, but it also improves neurological function after recovery." Knowing everyone was focused on this issue, Zhang Yang decided not to keep them in suspense.
"I say, you're not just Zhang anymore; you're now Divine Doctor Zhang. But I don't believe it—if it were your enemy, would you really save him? Or are you just lying?" Liang Ming scoffed.
"I'm not lying. If my sworn enemy were electrocuted and dying, I wouldn't let him die; I would definitely try my best to save him and then personally..." Zhang Yang made a gesture across his throat.
"You're something else; that's just cold," Liang Ming said with wide eyes and a sniffle.
"The remaining 17 people, are they not going to be eliminated anymore? I mean, from 110 to 17, the ones left are all champions, the old kings, simply put, 17K." Liang Ming suddenly felt it was quite boring and began to summarize other things.
"The training camp ends tomorrow, and we head back the day after," Qi Shen clearly showed no interest in Liang Ming's summary, extending his hands and patting both Zhang Yang and Liang Ming on the shoulders.
"What's the rush? I say, brothers, let's create a group for 17K so we can keep in touch later." Liang Ming started to gather everyone's QQ numbers. Many laughed and agreed that it was indeed a good idea. After all, those who could attend the training were all outstanding individuals from special departments, and those who made it to the end were undoubtedly capable. Supporting each other would be great.
While the trainees exchanged contact information, Kuro Sijin was asking Time Rush about the answer to the third question. Time Rush's explanation was similar to Zhang Yang's. However, Kuro Sijin still had some doubts: "He only said it wasn't because of an enemy; he didn't explain that it was because artificial respiration wasn't suitable. You just let him pass like that?"
"Of course! If it's not because of an enemy, it can only be for this reason," Time Rush rolled her eyes at Kuro Sijin.
"Not necessarily; maybe he wants to kill his enemy himself," Kuro Sijin was indeed a revolutionary warrior who had experienced trials of iron and blood.
"Hmm?" Time Rush was suddenly taken aback by Kuro Sijin's words. To be honest, although Zhang Yang saved her life and acknowledged her as his Godmother, she didn't know him well enough. She often felt that this young man seemed to possess a unique sense of hardship that appeared almost hastily acquired. Combined with Zhang Yang's characteristics, it formed a special aura that often left people perplexed.
However, Time Rush ultimately leaned towards certainty in her heart, so after being stunned for a moment, she felt relieved. A young person who could sacrifice himself to save others in a critical moment would definitely not be a bad person; even if he were to kill someone, there would surely be justifiable and sufficient reasons behind it.
"This training camp is quite special; I've learned a lot from this young man," Kuro Sijin gently shook her head and smiled.
