Upon seeing Shen Zhiyu, Zhang Yang casually recounted his experiences on the bus. Shen Zhiyu laughed heartily, "Not only did you not catch any fish, but you also ended up smelling like one. Forget about it, let's go. Mr. Luo is here; I'll take you to meet him."
The two arrived at Luo Huasheng's office.
"You must be Zhang Yang? Hmm, just as I imagined, a spirited young man! Come, have a seat!" Luo Huasheng's rosy complexion and white hair gave him an imposing yet approachable demeanor. Upon seeing Zhang Yang, he smiled warmly, resembling a kind elder.
Zhang Yang observed Luo Huasheng. The deputy-level official had a well-proportioned appearance and a booming voice. At first glance, his eyes radiated a sense of righteousness. However, as Zhang Yang continued to look deeper, he felt that behind that righteousness lay something more profound and unfathomable.
"Xiao Shen, He Si Ren from the Blade Training Camp has completely submitted to me this time. When I suggested that Zhang Yang should be exempt from some training, he was still unconvinced. And what happened? Out of 110 top students, only 17 remained, and Zhang Yang was among them. Moreover, he definitely ranked among the best!" Luo Huasheng chuckled as he took a sip of tea.
"Mr. Luo, you're overpraising me," Zhang Yang replied modestly with a slight smile.
"Mr. Luo's eye for talent is well-known within the system," Shen Zhiyu interjected. "Mr. Luo, let's handle Zhang Yang's documents, fingerprints, and procedures according to my company's investigation protocols."
"Alright, once it's done, I'll sign off on it. Also, since Zhang Yang is still in school, if there are tasks, please try to schedule them on weekends or during holidays."
"I understand; there are indeed some matters that interns shouldn't be involved in. We won't disturb you any longer, Mr. Luo," Shen Zhiyu said before bidding farewell to Luo Huasheng along with Zhang Yang.
After completing the paperwork, Shen Zhiyu handed Zhang Yang a seemingly ordinary rugged phone: "This has quite a few contact numbers stored in it. Besides the contacts within your authority at Heavenly Mechanism Group, it also includes numbers for relevant national departments. If there's any official business in the future, use this phone; for personal matters like meals or drinks, continue using your original phone to contact me."
"What if I lose it?" Zhang Yang asked as he examined the phone.
"If you lose it, it's fine; it's fingerprint-secured. Let's leave it at that for today; reach out if anything comes up," Shen Zhiyu reminded him at last. "As long as the incoming call on this phone shows internal business calls, it's from Heavenly Mechanism Group."
"Got it. This phone is convenient; it's solar-powered so I won't have to worry about charging it." Zhang Yang agreed and then took his leave from Shen Zhiyu. After parting ways with Shen Zhiyu, Zhang Yang headed straight back to school. Upon opening the dormitory door, he found all three of his roommates had returned.
"I told you, Buddy, you finally made it," said a robust young man with a tiger-like head. "I'm Chen Xiangyu from Yanjing; these are Cai Fengfeng and Wang Zhongwei—it's just the four of us in this dorm."
"I'm Cai Fengfeng from East Sea City."
"I'm Wang Zhongwei from Central Plains Province."
"Hey guys, I'm Zhang Yang, from Shanhai Province, Haizhou."
"I say, now that Zhang Yang is here, our dormitory is complete. It's almost mealtime; let's head out for a meal," Chen Xiangyu suggested.
"Let's go!" Cai Fengfeng and Wang Zhongwei said in unison.
Zhang Yang naturally had no objections. The four of them tidied up a bit and opened the door, streaming out. At this moment, many students in the corridor were heading out to eat. Some sharp-eyed ones glanced into Room 306 and suddenly exclaimed, "Hey, why does their dorm only have four beds?"
Upon hearing this, Zhang Yang thought, isn't every dorm supposed to have four beds? Just then, the door across the hall opened as well. In that dormitory, there were eight beds total—four on each side. However, Zhang Yang's dorm was the same size but only had two beds on each side, totaling just four beds.
However, Chen Xiangyu didn't address this and quickly locked the door, signaling the other three to hurry up and leave.
As a result, two or three curious students approached them: "Hey, how much do you pay for your dorm each semester?"
In fact, the accommodation fee for an eight-person dormitory was 600 yuan per semester. Zhang Yang's dorm also only paid 600 yuan. But Chen Xiangyu thought quickly and said, "1200 yuan."
"No wonder; so a four-person room is more expensive," someone remarked.
"What does it matter if it's expensive? Spending more money is fine as long as we live comfortably. Come on, let's go find the Dormitory Management Office," some students protested.
Zhang Yang, Chen Xiangyu, Cai Fengfeng, and Wang Zhongwei seemed to have a tacit understanding; seeing that the focus had shifted to the Dormitory Management Office, they said nothing more and directly made their way through the crowd and out.
"I mean, it's been a week since school started; did they just notice our dorm only has four beds? What's going on?" Zhang Yang asked.
"We're all brothers in the same dorm now; I won't hide it from you. This building is for undergraduate students and only has eight-person rooms. When we first moved in, this dorm was like any other with eight beds, but only the four of us were assigned here. I thought there was no need for so many beds if there weren't that many people, so I went to find the Dormitory Management Office. This morning they came to remove four of the beds, which is what caught their attention," Chen Xiangyu explained.
"The Dormitory Management Office came to remove the beds?" Zhang Yang was somewhat surprised. If it were just his three roommates wanting more comfort and secretly removing beds, he could believe that; but how could the Dormitory Management Office change the structure of a dormitory just because of a freshman's request?
"Yeah, I asked them to give us a smaller dorm," Chen Xiangyu said.
"Open a small dorm?" Zhang Yang couldn't help but laugh. Everyone knows about opening a small kitchen, and here comes someone talking about opening a small dorm. Seeing Chen Xiangyu, though young, carrying himself with a certain leadership demeanor, Zhang Yang thought for a moment and realized that Chen Xiangyu must come from a significant background; otherwise, the Dormitory Management Office would not have so easily dismantled four beds.
Observing Cai Fengfeng and Wang Zhongwei, who were both dressed in bright, branded clothing, it was clear they were either wealthy or of high status. As for Zhang Yang, he was definitely there because of Luo Huasheng's influence. Looking at it this way, all four of them had some standing, which is why the school had grouped them together to "open a small dorm."
With this in mind, Zhang Yang didn't ask any more questions as the four of them arrived at a unique barbecue restaurant in Shanzhou.
This restaurant's grilled lamb kidneys were particularly delicious; they had no gamey taste and were grilled to perfection with three flavor options: honey, spicy, and five-spice. As soon as Zhang Yang sat down, he ordered four kidneys of each flavor.
"Wow, you're eating so much? Can you handle it?" Chen Xiangyu joked. Zhang Yang smiled but said nothing.
"Let's get some lamb skewers, fatty beef, tripe, chicken wings..." Wang Zhongwei and Cai Fengfeng saw Zhang Yang ordering lamb kidneys and picked up the menu to order a bunch of other dishes.
"Chen Xiangyu, hey, Cai Fengfeng, Wang Zhongwei, you guys are here too." While the four were ordering, a voice as clear as silver bells rang out nearby.
Zhang Yang looked up and thought, isn't this the beautiful girl from the bus who looked like she stepped out of a painting?
When the girl saw Zhang Yang sitting among them, her expression suddenly changed. She muttered "pervert" under her breath and then said to Chen Xiangyu, "Come here for a moment; I need to talk to you."
