"Hey, did you gather so many people to support you today?" Big Head Yang, whose real name is Gong Xiangyang, earned the nickname due to his large head. He was originally a big thug from the northern suburbs of Haizhou, but somehow got connected with Kang Ning and then Wu Liangdong, gradually expanding his influence in the outskirts of Haizhou City.
"Does he not know you?" Zhang Yang asked quietly after noticing that Big Head Yang showed no unusual reaction upon seeing Han Shenghui.
"We've never met. This kid likes to show off and play with cultural artifacts. He pretends to be an expert online under the username Big Head Cultural Artifacts, and his profile picture is his own photo. I heard about him and once looked him up online to see what he looked like. However, he definitely knows me."
"Mr. Gong, the price I mentioned is already very low. I've made such a concession; you are wealthy, can't you just help me out?" Erhu said as Big Head Yang approached, standing up to speak.
"Didn't I say? Just make it a round number of 770,000. How nice is that? Start! Start! A tall building rises from the ground, how auspicious!" Big Head Yang chuckled dryly.
"1.2 million is the bottom line. Otherwise, let's not talk." Liu Gang stood up, his white fitted T-shirt accentuating his physique, and his serious expression was quite intimidating.
Big Head Yang glanced at Liu Gang and then recalled the three cars parked outside, wondering where Erhu found such strong backup.
"It seems we won't reach an agreement today again? No rush; we have plenty of patience. Excuse me." After saying this, Big Head Yang turned to leave, and the dozen or so men in white shirts automatically made way for him.
"Mr. Gong, can I have a word with you?" Zhang Yang suddenly stepped forward and addressed Big Head Yang.
"Hmm?" Big Head Yang looked at Zhang Yang, who appeared young and dressed neatly with a smile on his face and bright eyes. "Sure." Big Head Yang followed Zhang Yang to the side.
"My name is Zhang Yang; I'm from Haizhou and have some connections with Wu Liangdong and Wu Squad. Could you please mention to your boss Kang Ning to take care of things? This house belongs to Erhu's parents; he's currently earning low income and it's tough for him. 1.2 million isn't much for you." Zhang Yang said.
"Sure." Big Head Yang replied with the same phrase again and turned to leave, thinking: Zhang Yang? Never heard of you; who do you think you are?
"Big Head Yang, you're much more arrogant than before. If anything happens to Erhu recently, I'm worried something might happen to you too," Han Shenghui suddenly said.
"Damn it, I've been smiling all along; do you think I'm a sick cat? Where are you from?" Big Head Yang shouted angrily upon hearing this.
“Seeking Society, Han Shenghui.” Han Shenghui looked at Big Head Yang throwing a fit and revealed a disdainful smile.
“So it’s Brother Black Wolf, I’ve heard a lot about you. I didn’t expect our first meeting to be here. Are you here to back up Erhu?” Big Head Yang was startled, thinking how could the leader of Seeking Society be here? However, he maintained a calm exterior, though his anger was suppressed.
“We are all friends; what happens among friends is my business. The term ‘back up’ is not quite appropriate,” Black Wolf continued without waiting for Big Head Yang to respond. “No need for gifts!”
Big Head Yang sneered and led his group out the door. After he left, Liu Gang asked Erhu, “Where’s your wife?”
“She’s at her parents’ house. My father-in-law lives in the village; it’s safer with everyone together,” Erhu replied.
“Then let’s go. It seems you don’t have kids yet; what’s the point of staying home alone? Brother Liu Gang is here in Haizhou, I’ll treat,” Han Shenghui said.
Liu Gang glanced at Zhang Yang. “We’re brothers; let’s go. It’s past mealtime.” Zhang Yang said to Liu Gang.
As they stepped outside, Nickname saw Liu Gang’s car and his eyes widened. “This modification is amazing! Brother Gang, with this license plate, this car will turn heads!” Nickname exclaimed. “Brother Gang, why don’t you let me drive your car while you take the BMW X6?”
“Sure, I’ll tell you the basics; some modifications are quite unique,” Liu Gang opened the car door and explained to Nickname.
With a roar, the off-road vehicle took off in a beautiful arc. “This kid has some serious skills; did he train in the army?” Liu Gang remarked. “Yeah, he’s a driver; he claims he’s better at driving than repairing cars,” Great Victory scoffed. Everyone burst into laughter. Although Erhu faced difficulties, with so many people supporting him, he felt less constrained and joined in the laughter.
During dinner, Zhang Yang learned that Erhu’s brother, Big Tiger, was once a comrade of Liu Gang. In an operation, Big Tiger tragically lost his life while protecting Liu Gang. Both Big Tiger and Erhu’s parents had passed away early; when he died, Big Tiger was still unmarried, leaving only his younger brother as family. Thus, Liu Gang had taken care of Erhu over the years. Although he visited less after Erhu got married, they maintained contact by phone.
Erhu was an honest man; he told everyone that if this house was demolished, he would have nowhere to live. The housing prices in Haizhou had skyrocketed; even a decent place cost around ten thousand per square meter. With 1.2 million, one could only buy about 100 square meters plus renovation costs.
These people were all impressive characters, each more formidable than the last. Yet upon meeting an honest person like Erhu, they felt an unusual closeness. After some calculations, besides Zhang Yang, Erhu was the youngest and quickly ended up calling everyone brother.
While they were bonding and drinking heavily on one side, on the other side, Big Head Yang recounted what happened at Erhu’s home to Wu Zhongxin’s younger uncle, Kang Ning. In the Kang family, Kang Min was the eldest and Kang Ning was the youngest with a significant age gap. Therefore, although Kang Ning was technically the uncle of Wu Liangdong, he was only slightly older than him.
"Not that I care about these hundreds of thousands. The residents at Ranma Alley who find the conditions unacceptable are not just him. Once this door is opened, the money I have to spend in the future will be endless." Kang Ning usually doesn't smoke, but whenever he encounters a problem, he likes to light one up and take a few puffs, as if it helps him think.
"That's true. But that kid named Zhang Yang said he has connections with Wu Squad. Should we give Wu Squad a call?" Big Head Yang said from the side.
"He's currently helping out at the Provincial Public Security Department, so calling wouldn't be appropriate. If he had connections, he would have contacted me directly instead of having this Zhang Yang relay the message," Kang Ning scoffed lightly. "There are plenty of people who like to flaunt their connections."
"By the way, there's another thing. The leader of Seeking Society, Han Shenghui, went today. He's the one nicknamed Black Wolf," Big Head Yang continued.
"Hmm? Did Zhang Yang bring in Black Wolf?"
"Hard to say. There was another guy wearing a tight white T-shirt, looking quite impressive. Not sure what he's doing there, but he doesn't seem like someone from the underworld."
"Why are so many helpers suddenly appearing for Erhu?" Kang Ning took another puff of his cigarette. He initially thought that dealing with an honest local citizen would be straightforward—just drag it out in the open and intimidate them behind the scenes, and this matter would pass. Erhu was his first target for relocation resistance; dealing with Erhu was somewhat of a warning to others. He thought that throwing Erhu's wife into a graveyard and sending Big Head Yang over today would settle things, but unexpectedly, a bunch of helpers showed up.
In Kang Ning's view, among these helpers, Zhang Yang was a nobody, Liu Gang was unknown to him, and the only one with some real influence was Black Wolf Han Shenghui.
"You arrange it; I want to meet Han Shenghui and talk," Kang Ning said to Big Head Yang while extinguishing his cigarette.
