Glass fell from the sky, whistling as it descended.
The men around Zong Lingxu, likely managers or supervisors from the construction site, shouted and scrambled for cover. At this critical moment for survival, no one bothered to help Zong Lingxu.
Instead, it was the frail Yewen who pulled Zong Lingxu aside to seek shelter.
However, at such a rapid descent, not only Zong Lingxu and Yewen but even the strong construction workers would have no time to escape.
The large piece of glass was falling at an angle; if it struck the two of them, there would be no need for rescue.
Seeing this situation, Zhang Yang took a quick step forward, his body lunging upward as he struck the center of the glass with both palms. A loud crash echoed!
Glass shards rained down. Fortunately, the glass was tempered, and the fragments were not sharp. Moreover, the downward momentum had been disrupted by Zhang Yang's palms, so neither Chu Ruoxi nor Yewen were seriously harmed by the falling glass.
After shattering the glass, Zhang Yang quickly withdrew his hands but felt a soreness in his arms. As he breathed, his breath became somewhat labored. Suddenly, he felt a sweetness in his throat and coughed up a mouthful of blood!
The rising sun's halo illuminated Zhang Yang's face; he suddenly felt dizzy and blacked out, collapsing to the ground.
The glass falling from a height of one hundred meters possessed terrifying force and speed. If Zhang Yang had struck it with brute strength, he might have broken both arms. However, Zhang Yang adjusted his breath to use qi to counterforce; yet due to the suddenness of the incident, his breath was not entirely smooth and carried some agitation. The tremendous impact injured his internal organs, leading to his vomiting blood and fainting.
When Zhang Yang woke up, he found himself lying on a single bed.
The white sheets were pristine, and everything was neatly arranged. Monitoring equipment was placed beside the head of the bed, and an IV was attached to his hand. There was only one bed in the room; no one else was present. Clearly, this was a single patient room in a hospital.
After adjusting his breathing, Zhang Yang felt little obstruction but experienced some tightness in his chest. It seemed that striking the glass had indeed injured his vitality but not severely; however, it would likely take at least a month of recovery to fully heal.
"This was indeed too risky," Zhang Yang thought. "The glass came down too fiercely and unexpectedly; if I had collided head-on without caution and my breath had reversed due to an accident, I could have lost my life. Gently moving around and turning his head slightly, Zhang Yang saw the autumn sunlight outside the window and couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.
The door creaked open as a female nurse pushed a cart into the room.
Zhang Yang looked at her, about to speak, when the nurse suddenly exclaimed, "Ah! You're finally awake! I'll go notify Director Jin!" Without waiting for Zhang Yang to respond, she ran out.
After a while, a middle-aged man wearing gold-rimmed glasses and a white coat entered the room; this must be Director Jin, as the nurse had mentioned.
"Awake?" Director Jin asked while checking Zhang Yang's pupils. He then took out a stethoscope and listened to Zhang Yang's chest and abdomen.
"Where is this?" Zhang Yang asked softly.
"Shanhai Provincial Hospital. Well, you're basically fine now; just take good care of yourself," Director Jin said. He then turned to the nurse and instructed, "Xiao Fang, I'll write a medical order later for more nutritional supplements; you can add them today."
"Okay, Director Jin," the nurse Xiao Fang replied. She looked quite young, probably in her twenties.
"Were there any other patients brought in?" Zhang Yang inquired.
"No, no one else was hurt. By the way, President Zong is a good friend of mine. She stayed at the hospital with you on the first day and visited you twice afterward, but you didn't wake up," Director Jin answered.
"I didn't wake up? Was I unconscious for a long time?" Zhang Yang asked.
"Not really; just three days," Director Jin replied. "When you arrived, internal injuries caused you to vomit blood, your blood pressure spiked affecting your brain, and you were also running a high fever. It's quite remarkable that you woke up so quickly and are recovering so well."
"Three days? So I've already rested for three days. No wonder my breath isn't too labored," Zhang Yang thought to himself.
"Just take good care of yourself. You're recovering well now. This room is a high-quality single patient room; it's quiet and generally won't be disturbed. Xiao Fang is your dedicated nurse; you can reach out to her if you need anything," Director Jin said to Zhang Yang before adding, "You can also find me if needed. You should rest now; I still have rounds to make."
"Thank you, Director Jin. You go ahead with your work," Zhang Yang replied.
After Director Jin left, Xiao Fang suddenly became lively. It was clear that she was quite talkative, but she refrained from speaking much in front of Director Jin. As she was Zhang Yang's dedicated nurse and only had him as her patient, she began to chat with him while changing his IV fluids.
"When you were brought in, it was quite a scene; there were many people following behind. President Zong directly contacted our Director Jin, shouting that no matter how much it cost, they had to save you. Director Jin is the deputy director of our provincial hospital and the head of general surgery. The high-quality single patient room you're in costs over a thousand per day," Xiao Fang rambled on without pause, causing Zhang Yang to smile wryly at her enthusiasm.
"President Zong is really beautiful. She became the president of a Fortune 500 company at such a young age, and it seems she cares about you a lot. I think you're quite handsome too..." After changing the required liquid, Xiao Fang surprisingly moved a stool and sat down right next to Zhang Yang's bed, starting a conversation.
"I don't know him, but I saved her on the construction site," Zhang Yang immediately said when he heard Xiao Fang mention that he was handsome, knowing she was going to gossip about their relationship.
"Oh, I thought so. But looking at your delicate skin, you don't seem like someone who works on a construction site. What do you do?"
"I'm a student. I was just accompanying a friend to deliver goods to the construction site when it happened."
"A student... Weiwei is your girlfriend, right?" Xiao Fang suddenly asked.
"Uh..." Zhang Yang thought to himself that he must have called Ding Weiwei's name while he was unconscious, and he directly called her Weiwei. Seeing Zhang Yang in a daze, Xiao Fang giggled and said, "In the few days you were unconscious, you must have called out Weiwei's name at least ten times."
"Weiwei is my girlfriend," Zhang Yang simply replied.
"And there’s also someone named Chu Ruoxi; you called her name over twenty times." Xiao Fang suddenly turned her head and stared seriously at Zhang Yang: "Over twenty times? This Chu Ruoxi must owe you a lot of money!"
Zhang Yang couldn't help but burst out laughing, thinking: Xiao Fang is so lively; she's mimicking lines from A Chinese Odyssey. However, he must have called out Ding Weiwei's and Chu Ruoxi's names while unconscious; otherwise, Xiao Fang wouldn't know. As for how many times he called them, that might be something Xiao Fang made up.
