As the off-road vehicle carrying Zong Lingxu drove into the primeval forest, Zhang Yang and the old Taoist had just entered for half an hour. Their luck wasn't so good; they had hired a car, but the driver refused to enter the primeval forest. Zhang Yang had no choice but to leave the driver's phone number for when they needed to contact him on their way back.
After walking for just over ten minutes, the old Taoist suddenly waved his sleeve, and a large tree fell with a crash, blocking the road.
Zhang Yang was startled, thinking how casually the old Taoist had knocked down a big tree. More importantly, what was the purpose of knocking down a tree for no reason?
"Just a little obstruction," the old Taoist chuckled and continued walking forward.
The off-road vehicle carrying Zong Lingxu came to an emergency stop in front of the fallen tree.
"It seems we can't go any further!" The driver got out to take a look and shook his head helplessly before getting back in to turn around.
At that moment, Zong Lingxu suddenly ran up to the fallen tree and shouted, "Is anyone there? Where are you?"
Tour guide Zhang Yu sighed, thinking that this rich girl was indeed heartbroken. However, it was truly unheard of to come into this primeval forest looking for someone. It seemed she had been suppressing her cheerful stories along the way and now wanted to vent.
Fate is indeed strange.
Zhang Yang heard that shout and felt the voice was familiar. He tugged at the old Taoist and wanted to go back to check. The old Taoist sighed and waved his hand dismissively.
With a few leaps, Zhang Yang arrived in front of the fallen tree and saw Zong Lingxu's coldly beautiful face!
"You, you really are here!" Zong Lingxu suddenly burst into laughter, rubbing her palms together. "Haha, I came here just to find you!"
"Ah?" Zhang Yang jumped over the fallen tree and stood in front of Zong Lingxu. She rushed forward and tightly hugged him. "I missed you so much." Tears streamed down her face.
Zhang Yang felt a sudden flutter in his heart and instinctively held Zong Lingxu tighter.
"What the hell is going on here?" The off-road vehicle driver leaned against the car, looking at the tour guide Zhang Yu. Zhang Yu glanced at Zhang Yang and thought to himself that the young man was quite handsome, but he seemed rather young. Well, it's trendy these days to have relationships with an age gap. However, how did such a young guy end up with a head full of gray hair?
Suddenly, Zong Lingxu pulled away from Zhang Yang's embrace and looked at his hair, saying, "Why is your hair white?"
Zhang Yang forced a smile and replied, "I don't know either; it seems to have gradually turned white after arriving in Shazhou."
"Don't wait idly; youth fades because you are idle," an old Taoist appeared beside them out of nowhere and said cryptically.
"Who is this?" Zong Lingxu asked curiously.
"This Taoist has forgotten his own name. He and I originally planned to go into the mountains to investigate some matters. How about this: you return to Ming Province first, and I'll come find you after I'm done," Zhang Yang said as he glanced at Zong Lingxu.
"No, I want to go with you!" Zong Lingxu's cold expression combined with her playful demeanor made it seem a bit odd.
"Forget it; it's not easy to find someone skilled like him. Now that you're involved, he definitely won't show himself. Let's just go back for now. We can come again if there's a chance," the old Taoist said with surprising calmness.
"So, does that mean my presence is affecting you?" Zong Lingxu suddenly asked the old Taoist.
"This is all destined. Ah, there's a car; we can save money on hiring one. Let's go!" The old Taoist surprisingly started laughing again, taking a few steps toward the car and getting in.
The off-road vehicle was quite spacious, accommodating five people without feeling cramped.
They returned to Ming Province just like that.
After arriving in Ming Province, Zong Lingxu booked three suites at a five-star hotel. The old Taoist suddenly muttered, "Two would have been enough." Zong Lingxu couldn't help but blush, while Zhang Yang tugged at the old Taoist's robe and gestured to Zong Lingxu, indicating that she shouldn't take it too seriously.
The three of them had a meal together. This time, the old Taoist didn't overindulge and ate very little. However, they were all somewhat tired, so after dinner, they returned to their rooms to rest, agreeing to meet again for dinner later.
Zhang Yang slept for about two hours before being awakened by the doorbell. When he opened the door, he was surprised to see the old Taoist.
"I wasn't full earlier," the old Taoist said.
"Seriously? What do you want to do?" Zhang Yang yawned.
"Let's go out and eat some more," the old Taoist replied with a smile, then tried to drag Zhang Yang out of the room.
"Don't pull me! I need to put on my shoes first."
The two went to a restaurant near the hotel. It was already past mealtime, and there were very few people in the restaurant. Fortunately, they could still order food. They casually found a seat in the lobby, and the old Taoist took the menu and ordered a bunch of dishes.
Looking at the old Taoist, Zhang Yang suddenly thought of someone—Zhou Botong.
He had astonishing skills and sometimes had a very meticulous way of thinking, but at other times he was quite eccentric, leaving people both amused and exasperated.
Just as he was thinking about this, Zhang Yang inadvertently looked up and saw two people walking into the restaurant—Toothless and Yu Qingwei.
"Zhang Yang!" Yu Qingwei called out.
"How did you end up getting involved with him?" Zhang Yang was taken aback, and a chain of events quickly unfolded in his mind. Before Yu Qingwei could respond, he slapped his forehead and said, "Oh, I understand now."
Toothless smiled brightly. "Meeting is fate; let's not dwell on unhappy matters. We have important things to collaborate on." With that, he walked directly to the table and sat down.
At that moment, the old Daoist, who had been eating quietly, looked up at Toothless and exclaimed, "Huh?"
"Master!!!" Toothless was taken aback and immediately knelt on the ground.
"Master???" Zhang Yang was stunned. This old Daoist was Toothless's master, Tian Yi Sheng?
No wonder he claimed to be in the prime of his life during the Daoguang Eighteenth Year; it turned out he was really two hundred years old!
Tian Yi Sheng appeared somewhat confused at first but then became clear-headed. "Toothless? Get up! How did you end up in Ming Province as well?"
Toothless stood up and recounted everything that had happened in order, including his desire to collaborate with Zhang Yang on studying the Jiazi Rainbow Shadow. Yu Qingwei had mentioned to Zhang Yang that his ancestor Azure Dragon Soars had a grudge against Toothless, and that Toothless had stolen the Jiazi Rainbow Shadow. However, that was merely a fabrication; in reality, the Jiazi Rainbow Shadow had never been a secret within the sect; everyone could access it. Tian Yi Sheng had gone missing precisely when it was in Toothless's possession.
"This book is useless; I've been inside," Tian Yi Sheng waved his hand.
"Been inside?" Zhang Yang, Toothless, and Yu Qingwei were all puzzled.
"I once created a Twelve Earthly Branches formation, connecting heaven and earth with spiritual power, manifesting a rainbow shadow in the sky. My consciousness left my body and entered the rainbow shadow, only to find it was a chaotic Void Realm," Tian Yi Sheng explained. "However, there was another person there who said he had been comprehending things in the Void Realm for a thousand years and was just about to leave after gaining some insights."
"My consciousness naturally wanted to ask what he had understood. That person only said one thing: between good and evil, there is still a thought. Seeing me silent, he left. Before me lay only chaos; I thought I wasn't as good as that person either, so I left as well. Unexpectedly, after my consciousness returned to my body, I suddenly realized I hadn't asked him what this thought was."
"Moreover, many of my memories vanished without a trace. It wasn't until today when I saw you that they suddenly all came back," Tian Yi Sheng pointed at Toothless and said.
"Who is that person?" Zhang Yang, Toothless, and Yu Qingwei asked in unison.
"Xuan Zhenzi," Tian Yi Sheng replied, looking at Zhang Yang. "The soul of Zhang Xunqiu has been cultivating for a thousand years within Xuan Zhenzi's Soul Requiem Blade, and it surprisingly transformed into the form of the Rainbow Blade. However, in the end, it couldn't escape the Soul Requiem Blade and enter that Void Realm. It seems to be similar to the Jiazi Rainbow Shadow."
Toothless fell silent. He hadn't expected that what he had been desperately pursuing was not the path to ascension, but rather a chaotic void. Even someone like Xuan Zhenzi, after a millennium of comprehension, could only grasp the notion that "between good and evil lies a single thought." It seemed he had truly been working in vain.
"I forgot to ask, so I wandered around hoping to find Xuan Zhenzi, but I never did. Later, I remembered he had once been to Southwest Wuliang Mountain, so I came here to inquire. Unexpectedly, as soon as I entered the mountain, I encountered a woman looking for Zhang Yang. Once a woman is involved, it surely cannot come to fruition, so I returned," Tian Yi Sheng continued.
"And if you found out?" Toothless suddenly interjected.
"Yes. It's just an old wish after all; that chaotic Void Realm is still not the immortal realm," Tian Yi Sheng sighed.
"Master, what are your plans for the future?" Toothless asked again.
"Just eating and waiting to die," Tian Yi Sheng suddenly blurted out, leaving the three of them stunned.
Toothless seemed to understand; he stood up and said to Zhang Yang, "Since you have a connection with my master, let's put our previous matters behind us."
Zhang Yang nodded and then said to Yu Qingwei, "I still need to thank you."
Yu Qingwei smiled, "Actually, we didn't mean any harm towards you; it's just that some pursuits forced us to take unconventional measures."
"Alright, let's part ways here," Tian Yi Sheng stood up. "I still want to find Xuan Zhenzi and ask what this thought really is. Traveling alone means I don't have to carry you burdens." With that, he left with a smile, saying as he walked away, "Zhang Yang, that golden elixir might save your life at a critical moment; keep it well."
"I'll take my leave as well," Toothless followed suit.
"See you next time!" Yu Qingwei also walked out.
"Damn!" Zhang Yang looked at the dishes on the table and thought that in just this short while, everything was gone! He originally wanted to take revenge on Toothless because Ding Weiwei's injury was somewhat related to him, but at this moment, he felt it was pointless. Even if he killed Toothless, would that make Ding Weiwei wake up?
Between good and evil, there is a single thought.
What is this thought? Perhaps it can resolve the grievances in my heart? Perhaps it can show me how to move forward?
Zhang Yang shook his head and returned to the hotel.
"You went out?" Just as he reached the door, Zong Lingxu suddenly opened the door and walked out.
"The Daoist has left," Zhang Yang smiled.
"He left, what about you?" Zong Lingxu suddenly smiled shyly and continued, "Shouldn't you be going back to Shanzhou?"
