Rushing into the hospital room, Ding Weiwei was sitting and eating, while Ding Zhaotang and his wife were overjoyed to tears.
Ding Weiwei held a bowl of egg noodles, eating messily. After such a long time without food, anything she could grab would be devoured hungrily.
“Dad, who is he?” After finishing a bowl of noodles, Ding Weiwei pointed at Zhang Yang, who stood at the door with a surprised expression, and asked in confusion.
“Ah?” Ding Zhaotang was taken aback. This was strange; Weiwei clearly knew him, so how could she not recognize this brat? If it weren't for this kid saying he could wake Weiwei up and putting in so much effort, he wouldn't have notified him to come today.
“Weiwei, it's me, Zhang Yang! Take a good look!” Zhang Yang walked to the bedside and murmured.
“Zhang Yang?” Ding Weiwei stared at Zhang Yang for quite a while, still looking confused. “Do we know each other?”
“You should rest well first.” Zhang Yang steadied himself, glanced at Ding Zhaotang, and then walked out of the hospital room. Ding Zhaotang understood and followed him out.
“It's a mix of joy and sorrow; at least she's awake! But it seems like she has amnesia,” Zhang Yang said as he handed a cigarette to Ding Zhaotang.
“Amnesia? How does she still recognize me? Could it be temporary?” Ding Zhaotang replied.
“Go back and ask her what the earliest memories she has are. I'll find the doctor,” Zhang Yang suggested.
As a result, after asking a few questions, Ding Zhaotang realized that Ding Weiwei had lost nearly five years of memory; her earliest memories only went back to five years ago when she was in middle school. At that time, she didn't know Zhang Yang, so naturally, she couldn't remember him now.
When the doctor saw this situation, he exclaimed about the miracle. “Just waking up is a miracle! And it's only temporary amnesia; what more do you want?”
Ding Zhaotang and his wife were overwhelmed with joy and no longer paid attention to Zhang Yang. In Ding Weiwei's eyes, Zhang Yang was just a strange stranger, so she didn't focus on him much either.
Zhang Yang could only silently retreat.
"That person seems to have left," Ding Weiwei suddenly said.
"It's fine, he's just a classmate of yours who happened to come for a check-up and stopped by to see you," Ding Zhaotang replied, glancing outside the door. Then, Ding Zhaotang and his wife fabricated a story, saying that Ding Weiwei had been in a car accident, which led to her current condition. They would contact Ding Weiwei's classmates to help restore her memories of university.
At the same time, Ding Zhaotang reached out to Ding Weiwei's school to explain the situation and hoped they would extend her leave of absence.
As for Zhang Yang, Ding Zhaotang and his wife did not mention him again.
"Perhaps this is the best ending. We were already broken up; why should I go looking for trouble?" Zhang Yang said with a bitter smile as he slowly walked out of the hospital.
At that moment, he remembered to check his phone and saw messages and missed calls from Zong Lingxu.
"Oh no!" Zhang Yang exclaimed, hailing a taxi straight to Shanhai Club.
In fact, Zong Lingxu was aware of Chairman Liu's intentions but thought there were many people at the venue, so it wouldn't be too dangerous. However, while she was distracted, Chairman Liu quietly slipped a pill into her drink.
A drug that would make her dazed and compliant.
Zong Lingxu seemed to have lost track of how many drinks she had with Chairman Liu; by the end, she became quite carefree. As fewer people remained at the gathering, Chairman Liu noticed that Zong Lingxu was half-reclining on the sofa. He immediately approached her, gently shook her, and found she was unresponsive. Only then did he lift Zong Lingxu up, saying, "Oh dear, President Zong has had too much to drink; I should take you home!"
With that, Chairman Liu half-carried and half-supported Zong Lingxu as they exited the hall and headed towards a side elevator.
Chairman Liu had a long-term room at Shanhai Club, gifted by a listed company.
From the moment they left until they entered the elevator, Chairman Liu maintained a proper demeanor, even showing a hint of helplessness on his face. However, once they entered the room, Chairman Liu suddenly transformed into a ravenous wolf. He threw Zong Lingxu onto the spacious water bed and pounced on her.
Despite being thin and wiry, Chairman Liu was still quite strong. He was somewhat excited and pounced too hard; his hands accidentally pressed against Zong Lingxu's stomach. It turned out to be problematic—Zong Lingxu's stomach churned suddenly, causing her to sit up abruptly and face Chairman Liu before vomiting!
The smell of vomit had nothing to do with whether someone was beautiful. Chairman Liu was furious, just about to explode, when Zong Lingxu suddenly lay back down on the bed, seemingly asleep.
"Fine, I'll take a shower first, and then I'll deal with you properly!" Chairman Liu got up, glanced around, and saw that there was no vomit on the bed. He carefully stood up, took off his clothes, and headed toward the bathroom.
At this moment, Zhang Yang had already returned to the Shanhai Club and arrived at the front desk.
"Excuse me, could you tell me which room Chairman Liu from the Securities Regulatory Commission is in? I have something to deliver," Zhang Yang said as he discreetly handed a few red bills to the attendant.
The attendant understood immediately; everyone knew that Chairman Liu had booked a private room at the club. It was common for people to come by to "deliver things," and this one seemed quite generous, making the attendant very happy.
"Room 808 on the 8th floor. Chairman Liu is here for a cocktail party today; he should be resting in his room right now," the attendant kindly informed him.
"Thank you." Zhang Yang headed straight for the elevator. At this moment, two men emerged from a concealed spot near the front desk. One was extremely tall with very fair skin and had braided hair; the other was of medium build, muscular, and bald. Both wore sunglasses. They waited until Zhang Yang entered the elevator before walking to the elevator door, exchanging glances as they watched the floor number light up before heading toward the stairs.
When Chairman Liu emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a large towel, Zong Lingxu had already changed positions and was lying on her stomach on the bed. Seeing her posture made Chairman Liu's blood boil; rubbing his hands together, he approached with an expression that suggested he felt invincible: "Haha, I'm here! Are you too shy to face me?"
Before he could reach the bedside, the doorbell rang. Chairman Liu paused and turned around.
The doorbell continued to ring. "Damn it, I pressed the 'Do Not Disturb' sign! Who is this blind fool?" Chairman Liu angrily stormed toward the door. "Who is it?"
"Is Chairman Liu in there?" came a voice from outside.
Chairman Liu looked through the peephole and saw someone standing outside holding a bouquet of flowers that obscured their face.
It was Zhang Yang, who had casually taken the flowers from the reception desk on the 8th floor.
Chairman Liu furiously pulled open the door and was taken aback to find it was Zong Lingxu's so-called boyfriend from the cocktail party. He instinctively tried to slam the door shut. Just as he was about to close it, he suddenly felt a fist thrust through the gap in the door, hitting him squarely in the face.
Chairman Liu collapsed to the ground, blood streaming from his nose.
Zhang Yang temporarily ignored Chairman Liu and walked straight into the room. He saw Zong Lingxu lying on the bed, fully clothed, which eased his mind a bit. He turned back to look at Chairman Liu, who was sitting on the floor, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
"It’s a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! Let me explain..." Chairman Liu wiped his nosebleed and hurriedly said.
Zhang Yang helped Zong Lingxu up and supported her as they walked over to Chairman Liu. He raised one hand but then lowered it again. "We'll settle this account another day," he said before leaving the room.
As Zhang Yang entered the elevator, Braided Guy and Bald Man happened to slowly come into the hallway from the stairwell.
After Zhang Yang left, Chairman Liu hurriedly put on his clothes, planning to leave the hotel. Just as he was getting dressed, Braided Guy and Bald Man walked into the room.
With a soft click, the door was gently closed. Chairman Liu quickly turned his head and saw Braided Guy and Bald Man.
"808?" Braided Guy asked bluntly, his voice stiff.
"Yes, who are you?" Chairman Liu felt a wave of fear wash over him.
"Search," Braided Guy commanded in a low voice. Bald Man began to search the room meticulously, leaving no corner or potential hiding place unchecked. However, when he returned to Braided Guy's side, he still wore a disappointed expression.
"Where is she?" Braided Guy asked coldly as he grabbed Chairman Liu by the neck.
"Who? You mean President Zong? She left," Chairman Liu replied tremulously.
"President Zong? A man? Young?" Braided Guy continued to question.
"Oh, you mean President Zong's boyfriend, something Zhang. They left together," Chairman Liu sighed in relief; if they were looking for Zhang Yang, then he wouldn't be in trouble.
"Chase!" The Braided Guy immediately turned and walked out the door. The Bald Man glanced at Chairman Liu, about to ask a question, but the Braided Guy didn't look back. He raised his hand and flicked out a cold light, and a blood hole appeared in Chairman Liu's neck. He didn't even have time to scream before collapsing to the ground.
Zhang Yang called the driver for Zong Lingxu. In fact, the driver had been waiting all along. Although this time took a bit longer, the Boss usually wouldn't ask unless he spoke first. As soon as Zhang Yang made the call, the driver immediately drove to the entrance of the banquet hall. Zhang Yang helped Zong Lingxu into the car and then called the Zong Family, instructing the driver to take Zong Lingxu home first.
After seeing the car leave, Zhang Yang thought about whether he should go back and see Chairman Liu. After pondering for a moment, he decided against it and turned to leave the hall.
Just as he stepped out of the hall's main door, Zhang Yang felt someone following him from behind. Listening closely, he could tell there were two people, and their footsteps were light and steady, clearly not ordinary experts.
"Chairman Liu is quite quick to act; he's found someone already," Zhang Yang thought with a smile as he quickly turned into an open park next to Shanhai Club.
Reaching an open area in the park, Zhang Yang stopped and suddenly turned around but saw no one there. "Come out," he called.
The leaves rustled, and the Braided Guy and Bald Man stepped out. Seeing that no one was around, they took off their glasses. They looked like Wokou.
"Zhang Yang?" The Braided Guy's poor Chinese confirmed Zhang Yang's thoughts. The Bald Man remained silent, his bright eyes still shining in the dark night.
"That's right. Chairman Liu sent you?" Zhang Yang smiled slightly. "Chairman Liu?" The Braided Guy was taken aback and then glanced at the Bald Man. "Let's take him out first," said the Bald Man in a low voice as he charged forward.
