Zhang Yang and Wings moved quickly, soon catching up with Kang Ning, who was still adjusting his pace. They climbed over a small hill and arrived at the Valley, where there was a river about 30 meters wide. The riverbank was lined with dense trees, providing good cover.
Wings took out a compass and roughly calculated their direction. "This river should be the Boundary River. Once we cross it, we'll be back in our country. But there are no bridges or boats—are we supposed to swim across?"
"I can't swim!" Kang Ning suddenly exclaimed.
"Seriously? You're from Haizhou, and you can't swim?" Zhang Yang replied. "Even if you could swim, it's likely not safe; there might be crocodiles in this river."
"What do we do now?" Kang Ning asked, looking worried.
"Let's walk around and look for a boat or a bridge," Wings suggested.
Just then, a series of loud sounds erupted from the river surface as several speedboats cut through the waves. Each boat had about five or six armed individuals on board.
"What are you doing? Don't move!" The speedboats slowed down, their guns aimed at the three of them.
"They don't seem to be with those soldiers," Wings whispered.
"Wait for an opportunity to shoot!" Zhang Yang replied.
At that moment, a man on one of the speedboats picked up binoculars and looked over in their direction. After scanning the area, he suddenly exclaimed in surprise, "Is that Zhang Yang?"
Zhang Yang was taken aback; he couldn't see the man's face clearly from a distance and wasn't sure if he was friend or foe. He shouted back, "Who are you?"
"Hahaha, it's Ruan Shaowen!" The man laughed upon hearing Zhang Yang's voice and slowly steered the speedboat to the shore.
Ruan Shaowen had previously attempted to assassinate Zhang Yang in Haizhou, shooting him in the forehead with a Blade but ultimately helping him level up to Orange Level. It had been over a year since they last met, and now they found themselves together again in Myanmar.
"Get on the boat!" Zhang Yang said as he reached the shore and called to Kang Ning and Wings.
They hesitated for a moment but decided to follow Zhang Yang's lead. The reason Zhang Yang urged them to board quickly was that if they lingered there too long, they might soon be caught by pursuers. Moreover, Zhang Yang had previously spared Ruan Shaowen's life; he didn't think Ruan would turn against him now. Even if he did harbor ill intentions, he would have shot immediately upon recognizing them.
Once aboard the speedboat, it accelerated rapidly, quickly covering a significant distance across the water.
"How did you end up in Myanmar?" Zhang Yang asked as he accepted a cigarette from Ruan Shaowen, feeling relieved.
"It's tough to get by in China. I first went back to Vietnam and then came to Myanmar. By chance, I saved the boss of Kawthoung Region and ended up as his right-hand man. Now I even lead my own troops," Ruan Shaowen explained. Kawthoung Region was quite unique; it was relatively independent with an armed leader who spoke Southwestern Mandarin.
Since Ruan Shaowen was hanging out with the boss of the Kawthoung Region, things were naturally going smoothly for him.
Zhang Yang recounted what had happened at the casino.
"It's no big deal. I'll talk to them later, and this will all blow over," Ruan Shaowen said with a smile as he picked up a Satellite Phone. He seemed to be calling someone, and while on the phone, he spoke authoritatively, briefly explaining the situation before concluding with, "Alright, no need for compensation. Let's leave it at that."
They had killed so many people, yet the other party still wanted compensation?
"You must have provoked some affiliated armed group. If it were our people, I would have known right away. It's all good now; I spoke to their boss. Come on, let's go to my place since you're here. I'll show you around," Ruan Shaowen said casually.
The speedboat stopped at a small dock, and soon a car arrived to pick them up.
The car drove into the Old Street area and then stopped at the edge of the city. "Look, my new home," Ruan Shaowen pointed to a villa by the roadside. From the outside, it was quite large, and such a luxurious residence stood out in Old Street.
"You're doing well; the boss of Kawthoung really values you," Zhang Yang remarked with a smile.
Ruan Shaowen smiled back but didn't say anything.
As they approached the villa's entrance, two fully armed soldiers stood guard at the door. Upon seeing Ruan Shaowen approach, they immediately saluted in unison!
Entering the villa's hall, Zhang Yang, Wings, and Kang Ning were all taken aback. The hall was decorated impressively; even in Huaxia, it would definitely be considered wealthy-level. "Make yourselves comfortable!" Ruan Shaowen gestured and then instructed the butler beside him, "Tell the kitchen to prepare dinner!"
"What’s your rank?" Zhang Yang asked after sitting down.
"Guo Yong Alliance Chief Strategist," Ruan Shaowen replied with a smile. "I've realized that my military talent is much higher; I'm better at this than fighting alone. I enjoy this kind of life!"
"This is great! I don't have to go back anymore; I can rest easy now!" Kang Ning suddenly laughed. "Zhang Yang, since this is your friend, is it okay if I stick with him? I have money and can help them purchase equipment."
Ruan Shaowen smiled, "No problem; having money is even better. Welcome."
"You stay here; I'm going back with Zhang Yang!" Wings suddenly said.
"And who might this be?" Ruan Shaowen asked Zhang Yang, as he hadn't inquired about Wings' identity during their journey.
"This is Wings from the Winged Fire Serpent," Zhang Yang introduced.
"You two are friends now? Did you meet when he tried to kill you?" Ruan Shaowen speculated. Zhang Yang nodded and replied, "Yeah, isn't that how we got to know each other?"
"Ha ha, it seems that it's not easy to kill you," Ruan Shaowen said. "What kind of person can force you to escape to Myanmar?"
"I originally planned to rest for a while in Guma Town, but things went wrong," Zhang Yang replied. "Can you take us back home?"
Ruan Shaowen laughed heartily, "In Kawthoung and Old Street, you can walk around freely; I can take you to the border anytime. However, let's have dinner tonight and rest for the night before we leave. Do you want me to arrange some entertainment?"
"Sure!" Kang Ning suddenly became excited. He had fled to Myanmar, living in constant fear, and now finding such a strong ally made him overjoyed, lifting the gloom from his heart.
"What’s so good about it?" Wings said. "Resting for a night is fine, but don't arrange any entertainment."
"Whatever you say," Ruan Shaowen waved his hand. "You all go take a shower first."
In fact, Ruan Shaowen was so enthusiastic towards Zhang Yang and the others not only because they were old acquaintances but also because the boss of Kawthoung Region listened closely to the Chinese authorities. The Fruit Courage Alliance had been quite stable in Kawthoung Region, which was related to this. Therefore, Ruan Shaowen had reason to be warm towards the Chinese people.
However, there were also many disputes between the Myanmar government and Kawthoung, but it was too complicated for Ruan Shaowen to delve into; he just needed to enjoy life in Kawthoung Region.
After taking a shower, Ruan Shaowen suddenly said to Zhang Yang, "I have something I want to discuss with you."
