"Alright, I believe your strange experiences, so stop overthinking it. Geological movements are very complex; it's quite normal for an earthquake to occur in a town, and as for the fatalities being all women, that also makes sense. The rescue operation has concluded now, so you should take a good rest," Zong Lingxu said, feeling a bit sorry for Zhang Yang, who was exhausted.
Zhang Yang thought to himself that this number might not be the final count, and he couldn't investigate each woman who was in danger at the critical moment. So, pondering over it wasn't really a solution.
"This earthquake is indeed very strange," Zhang Yang sighed. "Alright, we'll rest in the tent tonight and head to Isolated Valley first thing tomorrow."
"I have a strange feeling today," Zong Lingxu also sighed.
Zhang Yang looked at Zong Lingxu and thought for a moment before saying, "In the face of disaster, anyone can experience a huge psychological contrast, especially when witnessing unexpected deaths and separations. Don't think too much about it; just take some time to rest."
"Why suffer in life or mourn in death?" Zong Lingxu suddenly said. "I just feel that life and death are very peculiar things. We can't decide our own birth or death; even the process of living seems predestined in some way."
Zhang Yang was taken aback. The cycle of life and death is indeed something no one can fully comprehend. The difficulty lies in the fact that the thinker is also an individual who doesn't know where they came from or where they are going. The Clear Realm mentioned by Primordial Spirit seems not to be prepared for "humans." If a person's spiritual power were strong enough to reach that realm, then such spiritual power would surely transcend the category of "human."
Coming from "human," yet ultimately departing from its roots. Although countless deities and saints appearing in myths throughout history can achieve this, it merely divides the three realms and grants immortality. It cannot explain why "humans" must undergo the process of life and death; reincarnation and becoming an immortal are just different forms of life and death.
In a daze, Zhang Yang fell asleep.
The next day, Zhang Yang and Zong Lingxu left Dachang Town and headed towards the Great River by Wuliang Mountain.
"Fortunately, the terrain hasn't changed much," Zhang Yang glanced at Zong Lingxu and asked, "Are you ready?"
"Yes," Zong Lingxu replied as she took off her clothes to reveal a full-body swimsuit underneath, then placed her discarded clothes into a plastic bag.
"Is it that complicated?" Zhang Yang removed his clothes down to his tank top and shorts before jumping into the water with a splash.
The two climbed out of the pond, and as they reached the shore, they could see the Stone House in the distance.
Zong Lingxu first combed her hair and adjusted her clothes by the Stone Pool. Zhang Yang tidied himself up briefly and walked to the front of the Stone House, only to be taken aback.
On the stone table inside the Stone House, there was no Black Clay Town Box, but instead, there were a Bronze Soul-Settling Talisman and a Soul Requiem Blade!
A seemingly young man with white hair and a stern expression was standing by the stone table, breathing heavily. Upon seeing Zhang Yang at the door, the White-Haired Man immediately cast a cold glance his way. However, after a closer look, the cold expression on his face suddenly vanished, replaced by an expression of immense surprise.
"Great Trickster! You actually came!" the White-Haired Man exclaimed.
"Great Trickster?" Zhang Yang was taken aback. He had heard this title mentioned by the Primordial Spirit in the Void Realm but did not expect that this White-Haired Man would directly refer to him in such a manner, as if it were a personal title. Looking closely at the White-Haired Man's features, he seemed somewhat familiar, yet Zhang Yang could not recall who he was.
"Today, as I was about to complete the Soul Requiem Blade, I came to Reincarnation Valley to offer my blade. However, at a critical moment, something went wrong, and I lost one soul and one spirit!" The White-Haired Man's expression turned calm as he spoke each word clearly.
From the current demeanor of the White-Haired Man, Zhang Yang could not discern whether he was friend or foe. However, he at least learned that this Isolated Valley was actually called Reincarnation Valley.
"What year is it this year? What day is it today?" Zhang Yang involuntarily asked. Given the White-Haired Man's pretentious attitude, he decided to act a bit aloof himself.
"You were once from the Clear Realm; why bother discussing years and dates? By the time I leave this valley, the world will surely be in Great Tang Prosperity!" The White-Haired Man continued coldly.
"Clear Realm?" Zhang Yang's heart skipped a beat. According to what the Primordial Spirit had said, he had not yet entered the Clear Realm. Yet from the White-Haired Man's words, it seemed he had been mingling in the Clear Realm for quite some time without realizing it.
"Great Trickster, what brings you to Reincarnation Valley?" the White-Haired Man asked again.
"I don't think I know you, handsome," Zhang Yang replied straightforwardly without pretending anymore.
"Mm?" The White-Haired Man paused for a moment. "You originally had a treasure in your hand; you wouldn't have set your sights on my Soul Requiem Blade, would you? Unfortunately, the ritual for the blade has not been completed today. Its power is greatly diminished. If a high-level soul enters, it might still break free. You clearly calculated the three souls and seven spirits of the Yin attribute, yet one soul and one spirit managed to escape!"
"What?!" Zhang Yang suddenly realized that the earthquake and the eight dead women were caused by this person’s spell. The ritual blade required the three souls and seven spirits of the Yin attribute, which meant it needed the living souls of ten women—one soul or one spirit from each woman, totaling ten. The pregnant woman and the girl in her womb were originally targets of this spell but were saved by Zhang Yang.
"Escaped?" Zhang Yang's tone suddenly turned icy. "They didn't escape; that pregnant woman was saved in advance! You actually harmed so many people for the sake of the ritual blade!"
"Great Trickster, I have always kept my distance from you in the Clear Realm. Now you're meddling a bit too much, aren't you? Life and death in this world are predetermined. Decades pass in the blink of an eye; what difference does it make whether it happens sooner or later?" the White-Haired Man replied.
"I don't care what life and death mean to you, but for them, it's about losing their families!" Zhang Yang's anger flared, his voice rising sharply.
"You have spent your life contemplating Good and Evil, achieving some small success to earn the title of Great Trickster. I never expected that in this world, you still haven't grasped the essence of life and death. I truly wonder how you entered the Clear Realm!" The White-Haired Man sneered.
"Toothless? Your master is Tian Yi Sheng, and you are Toothless Mouse? I've seen what you look like when you're old; I didn't expect such a big difference when you were young. Aren't you from the Qing Dynasty?" Zhang Yang exclaimed in shock. He never expected that Toothless was also from the Clear Realm.
"My return to this world was thanks to you! Whether it was during the late Qing or not, matters of this world are just a fleeting moment. Anyway, now besides the Spirit Seal from the Clear Realm, my divine consciousness has been refined so much that I naturally can't remember encountering you here; I only recall your actions in the Clear Realm! It seems we really are fated!" The White-Haired Man suddenly burst into laughter.
"Clear Realm... what kind of place is it? What exactly did I do there?" Zhang Yang shook his head, his gaze suddenly becoming distant.
