After having dinner, I took Red Boy to find Uncle Xing. (Red Boy made himself invisible.)
When we arrived at the Sports Office, there was no sign of Uncle Xing; only Sister Qing at the front desk was organizing documents. Qing mentioned that Uncle Xing usually doesn't come here unless there's an urgent situation. Another one of those freeloaders who don't do their job! I asked Qing what was going on with Red Boy. She said it wasn't their responsibility since Red Boy wasn't a Celestial Rank individual and he was still a minor, so he couldn't hold a position at the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs...
Things were getting more troublesome, but one of my strengths is that I tend to ignore troublesome matters... Whatever! Let's go check out my lovely classroom first.
Since I didn't get in through the proper channels, I only had the status of an auditor, which was fine because it meant I wouldn't have to worry about those messy exams and papers.
I was assigned to a Department of Ancient Culture class, which was perfect since Ancient Literature was the only subject I had some knowledge of.
I left Red Boy at the Sports Office and went to find my classroom alone.
I didn't get lost like the first time because I had asked around and found out my classroom was very close to the cafeteria where I met Lin Miaomiao. It was just across the hall...
The classroom wasn't large, but it wasn't too small either; it was a tiered classroom that could accommodate about eight people. — There were only six or so of us in this department.
As I entered the classroom, most of the seats were already taken. There were both boys and girls; some were chatting together while others were quietly reading. Suddenly, I realized I might have forgotten something. Right! My book! I actually forgot to bring my book! Anyone who has ever studied should know not to forget their book, but unfortunately, all my knowledge came from Pervert. Oh my gosh! How embarrassing.
I randomly chose a seat hoping not to attract anyone's attention, but contrary to my hopes, as soon as I sat down, someone leaned over.
"Excuse me, brother." What kind of address is that? "May I ask where you come from?"
I turned around to see a big head poking next to me. This person even had his hair tied up! He was wearing a long robe identical to Uncle Xing's school uniform. — If it weren't for my lost powers, I would definitely deal with this weirdo.
"I came from where I'm supposed to be," I replied casually.
"Interesting. May I know your name?" The person cupped his hands in a gesture of politeness.
"Yin Zheng'an," I sighed.
How strange! Am I experiencing bad luck lately? Every person I've encountered has been more eccentric than the last. Upon closer inspection, this person looked odd; aside from his peculiar appearance, his features weren't particularly special—he always had a slight smile at the corners of his mouth. — Could he be gay?
"Oh, so it's Brother Yin! I'm Zhang Lei; please take care of me." That person actually bowed deeply to me.
What the hell?
"What are you doing? If you keep this up, I'm calling the police!" I jumped up from my chair, stepping on it, panicking.
"Hey, hey, hey, don't get angry," someone nearby advised. "This guy is like this; if you ignore him for a while, he won't bother you."
"What’s wrong with him?" I pointed at the guy named Zhang and asked.
The person who just advised me shrugged helplessly and said, "He’s just gotten too into his reading; this guy always acts like he’s from ancient times. Isn’t that bizarre?"
"Brother, your words are misguided." The guy named Zhang clasped his hands together again. "I am emulating the style of ancient gentlemen; it is the way of a true gentleman. What’s wrong with that?"
"Great, he’s getting fired up again." The person next to me shook his head in resignation. "Just ignore him; he’ll get bored soon."
Before he got bored, I probably wouldn’t be able to take it anymore. Talking to ghosts is one thing, but hitting someone is against the law...
"Zero..." Just as I was contemplating whether to make the world a bit quieter, the class bell rang, and a clear female voice was heard before the person even appeared.
"Quiet!" A beautiful woman wearing a short-sleeved shirt and denim shorts with high-heeled sandals walked in.
The boys in the classroom started to cheer upon seeing her.
"I am your homeroom teacher."
With just one sentence, the classroom fell silent, except for... that guy named Zhang...
"Cuckoo, on the banks of the river, a graceful lady; a gentleman seeks a match. May I ask for this young lady's name?" That kid even took out a folding fan. — He looked like a complete fool.
"Speak human language." The beautiful homeroom teacher frowned and commanded.
"Uh... Teacher, what’s your surname?" It turns out this guy can speak human language.
"Wang." The beautiful homeroom teacher spoke sparingly, lowering her head to organize the documents she had brought. "Just a single name: Ni."
"Good name, good name! I wonder if Miss Wang Ni..."
"Either sit down and be quiet, or get out. You choose." Wang Ni raised her head and said coldly.
Immediately, the whole class burst into laughter, and Zhang Lei obediently sat down, looking dejected. It seemed that everything had its match!
"I want silence!" Wang Ni calmly stated, but her words carried an immense impact. "Next, listen to me. Anyone who wants to come up here can do so."
Next, Wang Ni went on for quite a while about study, life, and safety precautions, while some students in the audience began to doze off.
"There's one more important point: freshmen will undergo Military Training. Unless there are special circumstances, no one can be absent." Wang Ni's final statement woke everyone up.
Military Training—the nightmare of all freshmen.
"Teacher, will we use school-provided guns for Military Training or bring our own?" It was that same guy with the surname Zhang.
"Shut up!" Wang Ni replied; she must have been exasperated with this lively character...
"There will be Military Training for a total of six Saturdays, with no breaks. After Military Training, there will be an inspection, and those who do not pass will face penalties." Wang Ni flipped through the documents in her hand. "By the way, there's one person who is different. Who is Yin Zheng'an?"
"I am." I raised my hand helplessly; I knew this meant an increase in my Military Training intensity.
"You are an auditing student; you do not need to participate in Military Training."
What? Did I hear that wrong?
"Teacher, can we also be auditing students and skip Military Training?" someone echoed.
"Yes," Wang Ni replied, but before they could celebrate, her next sentence chilled everyone's enthusiasm. "But you won't receive a graduation certificate."
The classroom returned to silence.
"Then should I report back next Saturday?" I raised my hand and asked. If that's the case, I should go back first to ask the Pervert for living expenses.
"No, there are other arrangements. After class, come with me."
Could Wang Ni also be one of us?
"Any more questions?" Wang Ni scanned the classroom.
Everyone shook their heads, except for one lively character... his last name is Zhang...
"May I invite you to lunch, Teacher?" He didn't dare to continue speaking in classical Chinese.
"Either go outside or shut up."
"Oh," Zhang the Talented sat back down.
"Class dismissed!"
Wang Ni was the first to leave the classroom.
Half of the students disappeared in an instant. Luckily, I didn't bring any books; it seems I won't need them...
"Brother..." There was a voice beside me.
"I have something to do; I'm going to find the homeroom teacher." I pushed him aside and walked out of the classroom.
In front of the teacher's office door, I stood there hesitating. What exactly is your identity, Wang Ni? Could you be a colleague?
"What are you doing standing outside? Come in," Wang Ni's voice called out.
I pushed the door open, and Wang Ni was modifying something at her desk without looking up. "Whose apprentice are you?"
"What do you mean?" I pretended to be confused.
"What's with the act? I know all about you people. This position is just a gilded one for you guys. Be honest, who is your master, or who are your parents?" Wang Ni raised her hand to push her hair back from her forehead.
"You misunderstood; I was tricked into this." I explained the situation while wiping the sweat off my brow. "Are you in the same line of work?"
"Sort of, I know Xing Qi." Wang Ni said casually. Xing Qi is a pseudonym for Uncle Xing.
"Do you know his true identity?"
"He boasts about it every time he meets someone; who doesn't know? Isn't he just a Foolish War God?"
"Aren't you afraid of him being so eccentric?"
"Isn't he your superior?" Wang Ni asked, looking at me with interest.
"I'm just a temporary worker; what do I have to be afraid of?"
