Taking someone else's car costs money, but riding in Wang Ni's car is definitely a matter of life and death! I suggest that those who enjoy extreme sports should skip the rooftop high-altitude stunts for thrills and instead try Wang Ni's motorcycle; it's definitely more exhilarating than those activities. High-altitude stunts may be dangerous, but at least you know where you'll die if you slip. However, when you're on this motorcycle, you never know where you'll end up flying to next.
We raced at such extreme speeds for nearly four hours—this madwoman didn't even touch the brakes! It seemed we had finally reached our destination.
"Are we there?" I asked Wang Ni.
"Not yet, next we need to take a bus," Wang Ni said as she got off the motorcycle, putting away her wild side.
"Where exactly are we going?"
"Sichuan."
Sichuan, the Land of the Fufu, is located in the southwestern part of the continent. The western region is mountainous, while the lower part consists mainly of basins. When one thinks of Sichuan, the first thing that comes to mind is its spiciness. Sichuan was also home to the Shu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period.
Wang Ni and I took a train for a whole day before arriving in Chongqing, Sichuan. Before I could even enjoy a hot pot meal, Wang Ni pulled me onto a bus that ran between urban and rural areas.
Three days had passed, and now my meridians were finally unblocked; I could freely use my magical powers.
After sitting on the bus for a full nine hours, we arrived at a village that was basically isolated from the world. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, there was only one road leading in, and this was also the last stop for the bus.
Once we got off the bus, Wang Ni hailed a donkey cart to take us deeper into the mountains. After walking for a long time, we finally spotted a few old houses among the trees. It was a very remote village.
"We're here, Yin Zheng'an. From now on, you must completely follow my orders. Also, don't ask questions that shouldn't be asked; otherwise..." As soon as we got off the cart, Wang Ni threatened me with those words.
"Sister Ni, how did you know about this place?" In this desolate area, if Wang Ni hadn't been here before or had some informant, she wouldn't have found it so quickly.
"I've been here before," Wang Ni replied calmly. I knew then that she must have some understanding of this place, which allowed me to relax a bit. "I almost lost my life here."
"Sister Ni, don't scare me. You aren't taking me to a grave, are you?" I suddenly thought of the plot in Tomb Raiding. They didn't know that I was quite knowledgeable; with my skills, going into a tomb would just make me a supplement for those Demon Gods.
"Pretty much, but there's no need to go underground." Wang Ni's eyes carried a hint of sadness. "It's been a long time; I just want to come and see them, give them a visit."
"Who are they?"
"That's not something you should ask."
I immediately shut my mouth; I still needed to rely on this ancestor and couldn't afford to offend her.
Wang Ni glanced at her watch; it was now four in the afternoon.
"It's getting late. Let's find a place to stay." Wang Ni slung her bag over her shoulder and walked off, and I hurried to catch up.
This village wasn't large, with about a dozen households. Since it was in the mountains, dinner was eaten relatively early, and smoke was already rising from every home. Strangely, there were no people chatting at the door like in other villages; every door was tightly shut.
Wang Ni skillfully found a relatively larger household and knocked on the door. After calling out a couple of times, we finally heard someone coming to open it.
The one who opened the door was an elderly man, looking at least seventy years old.
"You are not...?" The old man pointed at Wang Ni, trying hard to remember. "You are that girl who came here a few years ago. Why have you returned?"
It seemed the old man recognized Wang Ni.
"Old man, I'm here for the same reason as last time. All these years, whenever I think of this place, I can't sleep well. Until I get this sorted out, I won't find peace," Wang Ni said.
"What a sin! The Mountain Deity has already spared you once; how can you still... sigh! Come in, listen to me: you two should leave quickly!" The old man opened the door and invited us in. Once Wang Ni and I entered, he hurriedly closed the door behind us, looking quite flustered.
Upon entering, I was greeted by an old, worn-out table that looked like it had seen better days. On the table sat a bowl of sweet potatoes, likely the old man's dinner.
"Is this all you're eating?" I asked the old man with a smile. Strangely, he ignored me.
"What nonsense are you talking? Hurry up and eat your own rations. After you're done, you can sleep at this table," Wang Ni shot me a glare, her voice cold.
I took out my rations and began to eat while Wang Ni also ate her own food, and the old man sat there gnawing on his sweet potato. We sat facing each other in silence, creating an odd atmosphere.
After finishing our meal, the old man moved the table aside and gestured for me to set up my tent there. He hadn't spoken a word to me the entire time. Once I finished setting up the tent, he went back inside.
Wang Ni handed me three white incense sticks. "Put these in front of your tent before you sleep. If you hear any sounds, don't come out. Tonight is not good; it will be very troublesome."
After saying this, Wang Ni followed the old man into the house, her tent set up inside.
The nights in the mountains were particularly cold. After completing the evening tasks assigned by my master, I checked the time—it was nearly nine o'clock. I arranged the blankets inside my tent, preparing to sleep.
Suddenly, an unexpectedly cold gust of wind swept through, causing me to shiver twice in quick succession. What was going on? I activated my Spiritual Sight and looked around but saw nothing. It was probably just a natural phenomenon; being deep in the mountains was different from being in the city.
Uncle Xing had stuffed a thick winter blanket into my tent. Although it was almost autumn, it was still relatively warm outside. I chuckled to myself; Uncle Xing really could have just given me a thinner one—how was I supposed to cover myself with something so thick?
As I crawled into the tent, exhaustion from several nights of travel washed over me like a tide. I closed my eyes and soon fell into a deep sleep.
I don't know how long I slept, but I suddenly felt increasingly cold. It seemed like there was a strong wind blowing outside the tent, accompanied by faint cries. Whatever it was, I decided not to worry about it since Wang Ni had told me not to respond if I heard any sounds. I wrapped myself tightly in the blanket and mentally praised Uncle Xing over a thousand times.
When I woke up again, it was to a piercing scream that jolted me awake; it sounded like Wang Ni.
I opened my eyes and realized I had slept much later than usual. Typically, I adhered to my master's early morning schedule and had developed a habit of waking up with the sun over many years. Perhaps I had just been too tired; I had somehow slept until it was late enough for the sun to shine on my backside.
I stretched lazily and was about to get dressed when I suddenly heard footsteps and the sound of a door opening. Before I could react, my tent was flung open.
Peeking in was Wang Ni, and it was clear she seemed startled. Haha, who scared this female tyrant like that?
"Yin Zheng'an!" Wang Ni looked at me, but I hadn't finished getting dressed, and as she lowered her gaze, she caught sight of my "brother."
"Pah!" Wang Ni spat lightly. "Still like this in the morning."
What the hell, it felt like I was being looked down upon by a woman.
"What did you do last night?" Before I could respond, Wang Ni immediately asked.
"I slept, what else could I do?" Strange? Did someone do something to her last night? For such a heroic figure, all I could think was, you have guts!
"Slept?" Wang Ni sneered. "You should come out and see for yourself!"
I crawled out of the tent and was instantly stunned by the sight before me!
I clearly set up the tent behind the door last night! Now my tent had somehow moved to the entrance! What surprised me even more were the countless messy footprints that appeared in front and behind my tent.
"This..."
