"Dingling!" With the sound of the school bell ringing, Red Boy quickly took off his Dinosaur costume, and the classmates began to pack up their drawing boards and paints. The teacher gathered the materials and left without saying a word.
Lin Miaomiao had made plans with a friend to get her nails done, so Red Boy and I decided to head home directly.
As we walked to the alley where I had subdued the Hungry Ghost, I suddenly felt like someone was following us. I turned around and saw a group of students at the entrance of the alley, and the exit was blocked as well.
The leader seemed to be a classmate of Lin Miaomiao's, with a few girls mixed in among them.
The leader was about six feet tall, fairly handsome, with slanted eyes and an air of arrogance. He had earrings in his ears and was tapping one foot on the ground in a showy manner.
"Hey, you think you're tough?" the leader asked me condescendingly. "You dare to steal the girl I like?"
The girl he liked? Who did he like? Did I steal his girl? Damn, this accusation is too ridiculous for me to take…
"Who do you like? Who did I steal? You should be clear about that," I replied innocently.
"Damn it, still pretending?" One of the sycophants next to the leader spat on the ground, pulled out a metal pipe from behind him, and charged at us.
To Red Boy and me, these people seemed incredibly low-class. It was obvious they weren't new to this kind of thing, given how they deliberately blocked our path and had prepared weapons in advance.
Red Boy was much quicker than I was. He stepped in front of me, grabbed the assailant's wrist, and with a twist, the guy dropped the metal pipe in pain.
In terms of fighting experience, Red Boy could practically be their ancestor. Before the guy could react, Red Boy flipped his hand and executed a joint lock, twisting the guy's arm behind his back. Following Red Boy's force, the guy knelt on one knee on the ground while Red Boy grabbed his other hand and stepped on his back.
Of course, this was my perspective; to that group of students, it all happened in an instant—the one who charged at us was already kneeling on the ground before they even realized what Red Boy had done.
"It hurts... it hurts! Let go of me..." The student cursed as he was held down by Red Boy. When Red Boy applied more pressure, he fell silent from the pain.
If you're looking for trouble and want to fight, you should be prepared to get beaten up. These guys were still inexperienced. Getting taken down so easily yet remaining so arrogant—it's only right they suffer a bit more.
I picked up the iron pipe from the ground and rested it on my shoulder, lightly tapping it up and down. I looked much more impressive than that group of students; I was more like a thug than they were. Anyone who saw me would surely call me "Brother Haonan" or "Mountain Chicken Brother."
"What’s up? Looking for trouble? Come on, let’s loosen up a bit," I mimicked the leading student, squinting my eyes and twisting my mouth into a defiant expression.
"Brothers, let’s go!" The leading student waved his hand, and the students who had been standing around began to crowd toward me and Red Boy.
Anyone with fighting experience knows that if a group is attacking a few people, the best strategy is to corner those few against a wall before making a move. First, the beaten have nowhere to run; second, it boosts morale; and third, even if they want to fight back, it’s hard for them to do so. However, if one person is facing a group, unless you have skills like Ip Man, remember this: if you can run, then run. If you can’t run, either crouch down and cover your head to avoid getting hit in vital areas or the face, or focus on one person. No matter how many hits you take from others, as long as you can make the person you’re targeting suffer more than you do, and you’re fiercer and unafraid of getting hurt, soon enough no one will dare to continue attacking; otherwise, you might die with a bit more dignity… Of course, this only applies to non-professional thugs. If they really want your life, no matter how you resist, you won’t stand a chance against a group.
Of course, while the students in front of me were non-professionals, Red Boy was a professional… And I wasn’t exactly weak—at least not against students.
Red Boy grabbed the unfortunate student he had knocked down by the shoulder and swung him toward the advancing crowd. The oncoming students instinctively took a step back. Meanwhile, I fixed my gaze on the leading student and swung the iron pipe, knocking him to the ground in just a few strikes. Seeing my ferocity, none of the bystanders dared to step in to help him.
This was just how fights among students went; Red Boy and I weren’t using any supernatural powers to bully them. Even so, we didn’t dare go all out; I aimed only for fleshy parts with my iron pipe. If I really wanted to hurt him seriously, I was confident that one strike could incapacitate him…
After battling with Mr. Cui and Bat Demon, I had learned some combat experience. Especially after being possessed by Lu Zu's spirit, I had picked up some practical sword techniques as well. The iron pipe felt very nimble in my hands; with just a light tap, I could keep the leading student pinned to the ground forever without any hope of getting back up.
So Red Boy swung one person around left and right; no one dared approach him. On my side, a crowd gathered around me as I poked at my opponent with disinterest but no one dared come closer.
This fight was too strange…
Gradually, some people began to back away from the crowd. Once someone took the lead in leaving, more followed suit until only five or six remained—this included me and Red Boy with our two captives…
"Stop! Stop!" The leading student finally couldn’t hold on any longer and began pleading for mercy. "Bro, can I call you bro? Please stop hitting me! I admit defeat! You’re strong; I won’t compete for Lin Miaomiao anymore."
"…What? This is all because of Lin Miaomiao? Are you kidding me! You guys are too unfair; really! I've always seen Lin Miaomiao as a sister—even though she’s older than me! If I had known this was about her from the start, we wouldn’t have fought at all."
"Ahem, it would have been great if you had recognized that sooner." I stopped my movements and let Red Boy put down his captive—the guy had already been knocked dizzy.
The leading student got up from the ground; he hadn’t really been hurt—he had just rolled around on the ground a bit. The ones who stayed behind must have been his closest friends; they quickly helped him up on either side.
"Is this person okay?" I was a bit worried about the one being tossed around by Red Boy. "Don't let him get hurt; I can't afford to pay for that."
"He's fine," Red Boy said confidently. As he pinched the person's acupoint, the individual slowly began to wake up.
"You see?" Red Boy said with full confidence. I couldn't help but shiver; judging by his skilled movements, he must have done this many times before...
"What grudge do you have against me?" I asked, intrigued by the leading student. I couldn't believe they were gathering so many people just because of Lin Miaomiao.
"No grudge, no resentment," the leading student said, no longer as arrogant as when he first blocked me. He waved his hands repeatedly and said, "Bro, I was wrong; just let me off this time."
"What's your name?" Red Boy suddenly asked.
"I'm from the Art Department, a sophomore, and my name is Wang Lin," the leading student replied. "These are all my classmates."
"You're the leader, huh?"
"No, the others were all paid to come."
"…"
This guy is really cool—no, wait, this guy is really rich...
