I am not skilled at arranging formations, so I still need to refer to books to barely set up the formation. Since I don't have a Formation Flag, I can only use a Yellow Talisman as a substitute, so this formation probably won't last long. I must quickly evacuate more people.
After setting up the formation, I ran in the opposite direction of Red Boy. We need to lure the Infected gathered in front of the teaching building into the formation; only after trapping them can we start evacuating the students.
The Infected will chase after those who are uninfected, but once they are infected, they will no longer be targets. Red Boy can hover in mid-air to attract the attention of the Infected, but I cannot. I can only use the Wind Walking Technique on the ground to draw them away, which makes me more dangerous compared to Red Boy.
I tried to circle around as much as possible, and quite a few Infected were now following me. They had lost their consciousness and were frantically attacking those who were uninfected. I could only run towards more complex terrain. After jumping over a flight of stairs, a group of Infected came rushing toward me from the front—this was bad; I was being sandwiched from both sides. Glancing sideways, I saw a tree of moderate size nearby; my only chance of survival depended on that tree.
With Wind Walk at its peak, I dashed to the tree in just a few steps. I pushed off hard against the trunk with my feet; the tree couldn't withstand such force and snapped with a crack. Using the tree's rebound and the Wind Walking Technique, I flew about twenty feet away.
After landing, I rolled forward to stabilize myself awkwardly. Looking back at Red Boy, he wasn't having an easy time either. Although he could fly in mid-air, if he went too high, he would easily lose the aggro of the Infected. So he had to maintain his height carefully, but there were always some taller Infected who managed to grab his feet. He wielded a Fire Spear, occasionally skewering any Infected that got too close.
The Infected behind me quickly caught up, and I didn't have time to worry about Red Boy anymore. With a quick leap from the ground and stepping on Wind Walk again, I continued my escape.
Red Boy and I each led a group of Infected in different directions, circling around the main roads of the campus to attract more Infected. The more we could lure into the formation, the better!
The speed of the Infected wasn't particularly fast, but they kept pouring in from all directions. I also had to be careful to avoid a stampede among them. Even if someone got infected, it could be cured; at worst, they would just feel weak for a while. But if a stampede occurred, it would lead to real casualties.
I picked up a branch from the ground and waved it left and right to push away any Infected that got too close; I could already feel more than one hand grabbing at me.
Soon enough, Red Boy and I met at that flower bed. I exchanged glances with him and signaled for us to split left and right to lead both groups of Infected into the formation.
Once most of the Infected were inside the formation, Red Boy lifted me by my clothes and flew out above it. Seizing this opportunity, I placed down my last Yellow Talisman to form a large formation resembling an Octagonal Taiji.
There were still many Infected that weren't under control; Red Boy was responsible for managing them while I went to protect the students during their retreat.
A clear space has been made in front of the teaching building, so I set up a Barrier there, at least to prevent the Infected from seeing the students retreating.
As I opened the large door of the teaching building, the Bald Man teacher was leading a group of girls down from the second floor.
"Quickly, follow the path and go around to the school gate. There will be someone waiting for you at the gate. Do not choose your own route," I shouted to the crowd.
The Bald Man, a middle-aged teacher, was very diligent, standing at the entrance directing the retreating crowd. I led the team, walking at the front to guide them and ensure safety. The path extended between two buildings and could lead around the school wall to the gate. Although the entrance was narrow and only allowed two people to pass at a time, it opened up once inside. The girls lined up orderly as they retreated along the path.
Suddenly, there was a commotion from behind. I quickly returned to the rear.
It turned out that some boys who had stayed in the classroom were panicking and trying to push their way forward, relying on their strength over that of the girls.
Damn it, what are they thinking at a time like this?
I rushed to the front and grabbed the most disruptive one, pulling him back into formation. For some reason, I felt unusually strong at that moment. The boy struggled fiercely against my grip, his face contorted in rage as if he wanted to devour me alive.
"Let go of me! Do you know who I am? Do you believe I can make you regret this?" he threatened.
The girls definitely couldn't push past the boys. If they continued causing trouble, we wouldn't be able to get many people through this path. This escape route had been cleared with great effort by me and Red Boy; it couldn't be ruined by this group.
"Do you believe you'll die first?" I pulled him a few steps toward formation. "Will you be thrown in and die from falling or from being bitten first?"
I intimidated him further, and his legs kicked faster in panic; soon enough, he lost strength and fainted.
I dragged him back into the teaching building. "If you keep causing trouble, this will be your fate. At worst, I'll let those people out too, and we'll all be finished together."
"Shit, should we ignore him?" someone shouted.
"Yeah, yeah, let's rush out quickly."
"If we don't run now, we're really going to die."
I was furious and clenched a few Fire Talismans in my hand. With a wave, a wall of fire appeared in the middle of the crowd, causing all the boys to instinctively take a step back.
"Want to try?" I said through gritted teeth, looking fierce.
I threw the person I was holding onto the ground and placed a Clear Mind Talisman on his forehead. He would wake up by himself in a little while.
"Do you still want to cause trouble?" I glared at the crowd with a murderous intent.
"No, no."
"Then hurry back!"
The crowd, looking dazed, ran back towards the teaching building, and all the boys who had rushed down were gathered in the hall.
"You guys go last," I said menacingly. They deserved some punishment!
Ignoring their protests, I turned and left; I still needed to continue the evacuation.
Actually, there weren't many girls, and they all evacuated quickly. However, when the boys started to leave, the formation suddenly collapsed.
The trapped Infected have regained their freedom and are wreaking havoc on the campus again.
Damn it! I quickly shut the door again, urging the people on the first floor to hurry back to the second floor. If the Infected see us down here, they will surely try to force their way to the door, and if the glass can't withstand it, the remaining people will be done for.
The boys I left behind rebelled, grumbling as they walked back upstairs. Their eyes were filled with anger towards me; if it weren't for my Fire Talisman, they would have probably rushed over to tear me apart.
"What are you looking at?" I snapped, furious. "If you're so capable, why don't you go out yourself? Pushing the girls out—are you even men? Damn it!"
After I yelled at them, those boys lowered their heads and trudged upstairs. They found seats in the classroom without exhausting me further.
Before long, Red Boy jumped in through the window but lost his balance and fell directly onto the floor. It seemed he was also worn out.
Red Boy gasped for breath on the ground and took a long time to get up. He sat down and looked at me, asking, "What do we do next?"
"Just wait to die," I replied.
My magic and stamina were nearly depleted, but thankfully, all the girls had already evacuated.
"I'll go upstairs to check the situation. You all block the stairs from the first to the second floor and try to hold out until someone outside comes to rescue us." Right now, we could only hope that help would arrive soon.
"Okay."
