Upon reaching the rooftop, I could almost see the entire campus. The playground had already been occupied by the Infected, with over a thousand of them wandering around aimlessly due to the lack of targets to attack. At least this way, they wouldn't get hurt.
It seemed that the library had also been infected, as I saw some Infected coming out from inside. Suddenly, I noticed a dark figure approaching closer. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be one of the initial Invaders.
The Invaders were among the first group of Infected that brought Corpse Poison into this place, likely controlled by the mastermind behind it all. The Invaders were much stronger than the Infected and could even leap across rooftops. They didn’t bite others but charged straight at me.
Its target was me! I quickly donned my Azure Robe; I wasn't afraid of the Infected, but I had to be cautious of the Invaders. Gripping my Peach Wood Sword in one hand, I pinched an Exorcism Talisman with two fingers in my other hand, ready for battle.
The Invader jumped onto the rooftop where I stood, staring at me with its lifeless eyes. Without a word, it leaped from the ground and lunged towards me in mid-air.
Of course, I wouldn’t give it a chance. I used my Peach Wood Sword to strike a Fire Talisman, igniting it as I slashed towards the Invader.
The wooden sword struck fiercely against the Invader's shoulder, but unfortunately, it didn’t seem to sustain any damage and continued its assault. Its hand transformed into a claw with long, sharp nails that pierced directly into my shoulder.
“Ah!” I gasped in pain and used my wooden sword to pry its hand away. I jumped back and knelt on one knee.
At the moment its claws sank into my shoulder, I felt a surge of dark energy entering me. The dark energy split along my meridians: one path rushed toward my brain while the other surged toward my Dantian.
What a vicious tactic! If that dark energy took hold, I would be controlled by that mastermind. Biting my tongue until it bled, I reversed the flow of blood through my meridians while simultaneously activating the Taiji Diagram within my Dantian to prevent the dark energy from entering.
The reversed Tongue Blood collided directly with the dark energy invading my brain. The dark energy instantly enveloped the Tongue Blood, carrying it back along the meridians from which it came.
Finally, the Tongue Blood mixed with dark energy burst forth from the wound on my shoulder. Using an Exorcism Talisman, I caught both the dark energy and Tongue Blood. Folding the Exorcism Talisman in half, I separated them. Then I swallowed back the Tongue Blood and repeated the process to expel the dark energy from my Dantian.
This was Corpse Qi brought by the Invaders; it couldn’t just be burned away carelessly. I contained the dark energy with an Exorcism Talisman and stored it back in my Seed Bag.
The Invader across from me watched with an amused expression as I exorcised myself. Once I truly expelled the Corpse Qi, it immediately launched another attack at me.
Damn it, is this just a show for its entertainment?
It seems that it's not just the mouth; as long as a wound is created, Corpse Qi can be spread. I need to be extra cautious since Tongue Blood is also limited.
Dodging the incoming attack from the Invaders, I kicked them in the stomach. In an instant, it felt like I had kicked a piece of steel. Not only did I fail to push the Invaders away, but my foot also went numb from the impact.
Damn, what is this thing? So hard?
I simply rolled on the ground, putting the Invaders behind me.
The wooden sword was useless; even breaking it wouldn't necessarily hurt them. It seems I can only try using the sword hilt that my master gave me.
I took out the sword hilt and attempted to channel my energy into it, but there was no response. Damn, why does it have to fail me at such a critical moment?
I pulled out a dozen Exorcism Talismans and activated Wind Walking Technique on my feet. Although the Invaders were much more agile than the Infected, they couldn't keep up with the limits of my Wind Walking Technique. I circled around the Invaders several times and covered them with Exorcism talismans from head to toe.
“Natural Earth Dissipation of Filth Cavernous Mystique Huanglang Taiyuan Eight Directions Divine Spirits grant me natural Spiritual Treasure Talisman Command Universal Announcement Nine Ganluodana Exorcise Evil Delivering Salvation to Thousands Zhongshan Divine Incantation Primordial Jade Text, reciting once yet prolonging illness, following the path of Five Mountains Eight Seas Knowledge Demon King Binding, guard my domain, Evil Energy Dissipates Dao Qi Lasts Forever Urgent Command!”
The dozen or so Exorcism talismans began to take effect simultaneously, and black gas started to emanate from the Invaders.
The Invaders looked like a chimney, continuously spewing black smoke. Damn, how much Corpse Qi does this thing carry?
Even after applying over a dozen Exorcism talismans, I still couldn't completely dispel the Corpse Qi. The Invaders, shrouded in black mist, lunged straight at me.
I was right at the edge of the rooftop; it seemed like they wanted to drag me down.
This is forcing me to fight for my life!
I quickly dodged aside, letting the Invaders pass by. Before I could feel relieved, I saw them grab onto a second-floor window, shattering the glass and jumping into a classroom on the second floor.
Oh no, there are still students inside!
There was no time to take the stairs, so I jumped directly from the rooftop. Fortunately, there was an air conditioning unit on the wall, which I used to hop down to the second floor step by step.
I crashed through the glass and entered the second floor, where the Invaders were already attacking in the classroom.
I saw three or four students had already been bitten. I rushed over, kicking one at the base of the window, then executed a Sweep Kick to knock down an Invader and pinned it firmly to the ground.
The bitten students were still being invaded by dark energy, while the remaining students were just standing there in a daze.
"Get out of here! Are you watching a show? Hurry up and close the door!" I shouted angrily.
Only then did the students rush out of the classroom and lock the door tightly.
Three black lines appeared on my forehead. Damn it, they actually locked the door! How am I supposed to get out?
One of the Invaders on the ground struggled, and I lost my grip as it broke free and escaped.
At that moment, I realized that one of my students had already turned into an Infected behind me, and I was now being attacked from both sides.
I had to be careful; I couldn't hurt those students.
I grabbed a broom from behind the classroom and pushed several desks to trap those few students. Although it was only a temporary measure, I had no other options left.
I drew out my Peach Wood Sword again. If I had an iron rod, I wouldn't even bother with the Peach Wood Sword; after all, it's quite expensive, and I'd hate to break it.
I had tried almost all my moves when suddenly an idea struck me: those Infected are afraid of golden light. The Octagonal Taiji was still on the statue in the flowerbed, so I silently chanted the Golden Light Spell and released several beams of radiant light from my body.
Gathering golden light on the wooden sword, there was one more thing: even if the golden light didn't work, at least it would make the wooden sword less likely to break. Holding the wooden sword in one hand, I pressed down on a few tables in the corner of the wall with the other hand—there were still a few Infected trapped underneath!
Fortunately, I had knocked those Infected down at the beginning; otherwise, I would be in even more trouble now.
The Invaders seemed to have lost interest in me and headed straight for the window in the corridor. Not good, they had turned their attention to those who were not infected yet.
Swallowing hard, I took advantage of the Invaders moving toward the window and quickly placed Exorcism talismans on those Infected. Then, I pushed off the wall and embraced the Invaders.
This was my first large-scale physical contact with an Invader. In an instant, my Azure Robe clung tightly to the Invader as if the Exorcism Talisman had taken effect, and a wave of black mist erupted from the Invader.
Taking this opportunity, I jumped out of the second-floor window while holding onto the Invader. In a moment of urgency, I didn’t manage to activate Wind Walk in time and crashed directly onto the Cement Ground with the Invader.
A sweet taste filled my mouth as I felt a surge of blood rising. I was somewhat lucky; in mid-air, I had the quick wit to turn around while holding onto the Invader, landing on my back first. The Invader bore most of the impact, but it wasn’t so fortunate; it hit its head on the ground and burst open like a ripe watermelon.
Suppressing my nausea, I slowly got up from the ground. I wanted to brush off my Daoist Robe but found there was nothing to shake off. Oddly enough, despite such intense fighting, my Daoist Robe hadn’t collected any dust.
My movements attracted nearby Infected, who rushed toward me like a group of treasure hunters drawn to gold, arms wide open.
I clicked my tongue, enduring the pain in my back as I climbed back up to the second floor along the drainpipe on the wall.
Upon returning to the second floor, I found that those Infected I had subdued earlier had gone rampant again in the classroom due to the Exorcism Talisman's effect wearing off. Letting out a painful groan, I drew my sword and charged in.
Although the Peach Wood Sword was useless against Invaders, it was a nemesis for Infected. Since I was running low on strength, my methods became much more brutal; I directly pressed the wooden sword against their throats and stuffed Exorcism talismans into their mouths. With a surge of magical power, I forced their black mist into the Exorcism Talisman until it was done. One by one, I expelled their black mist and leaned them against the wall corner before collapsing myself against it.
