The Bodhi Patriarch gathered many disciples, and with the addition of his disciples' disciples, there were quite a few people practicing in the Slanting Moon Three Stars Cave throughout the year. However, as I walked along the path, aside from a few young boys, I did not see anyone else. Especially after entering the cave, I didn't even sense the presence of anyone living there.
The Bodhi Patriarch led me to the top level of the stone tower.
The tower had a total of eight levels; aside from the top level, the others were filled with books. There were all kinds of books, some related to cultivation and others not. I even spotted the presence of Jin Ping Mei.
The top floor not only lacked books but also had no roof; rather than being a floor, it resembled a platform atop the stone tower.
On the platform stood only one tree, a very peculiar tree that I wasn't sure could even be classified as a tree. It was about as tall as a person, with only one main trunk from the roots to just below the crown; branches only began to fork near the top. Counting carefully, there were only eight branches growing in eight different directions. The entire tree was smooth from top to bottom, almost like a sapling that had been dead for many years.
"This is the Eight Treasures Marvelous Tree," said the Bodhi Patriarch.
The Eight Treasures Mystique corresponds to the eight branches of this tree, with each branch representing a unique method.
"There are nine in total, but there are only eight methods; it's similar to how there are Eight Gates of Dunjia in the human body," said the Bodhi Patriarch.
The Eight Gates of Dunjia—Open, Rest, Birth, Injury, Du, Scene, Shock, Death—these are the eight gates that correspond to the limits within the human body.
"Eight corresponds to the incompleteness of the world; eight represents something that is just below nine in its supreme nature."
"Actually, when you obtained the Eight Treasures Marvelous Tree, it only had eight branches, right?"
"Ahem." The Bodhi Patriarch cleared his throat awkwardly: "In any case, you have only one chance; how much you can understand is entirely up to your own fortune."
With a wave of his Daoist robe, a Meditation Cushion appeared on the ground.
The Meditation Cushion is very ordinary, but the one made from Calming Herb is unremarkable in appearance yet can enhance a practitioner's understanding of the Dao. However, what the Bodhi Patriarch took out is clearly different; after all, that Calming Herb still has ears of wheat attached to it. This must be made from straw.
Sitting on straw is better than sitting on the ground. I cross my legs on the Meditation Cushion, gather my energy and focus, sinking my qi into the Dantian, pouring all the refined magical power into my mind.
The three points within the Dantian resonate with each other, flickering in brightness, emitting beams of light.
The Bodhi Patriarch's eyes sharpened as he was surrounded by white magical power. A mass of almost tangible magical energy gathered on the Dust Whisk, transforming into a beam that shot directly into the Eight Treasures Marvelous Tree.
The branches of the Eight Treasures Marvelous Tree began to glow brightly, slowly radiating golden light, and the scene before me started to change gradually.
Chaos Energy surged from the ground, enveloping the surroundings in a misty haze. The Eight Treasures Marvelous Tree vanished, and the Bodhi Patriarch disappeared as well; it felt as if I stood alone in this chaos.
A beam of golden light streaked across from afar like a flowing stream. As it approached, a fierce wind nearly knocked me off my feet.
The golden light revealed itself to be an enormous Peng Bird, its wings wide enough to block out the sun.
The feathers of the Peng Bird shimmered with golden light, resembling pure gold, while a single feather atop its head accentuated its extraordinary majesty.
Amidst the chaotic air currents, the Peng Bird seemed unaffected by any obstacles. With a slight spread of its wings, it began to soar freely through the currents.
Although the Peng Bird's wings moved only slightly, it began to twist and turn within an expansive space with an uncanny agility. It floated in mid-air as if supported by something beneath it.
Suddenly, the Peng Bird stretched its wings wide and with a powerful flap transformed into a streak of light shooting toward the horizon.
"Golden-Winged Peng Bird, Soaring Straight Up for Ninety Thousand Miles," the Bodhi Patriarch's voice echoed in my ears. "This is the pinnacle of Wind Walk."
“Ancestor, this”
“Just keep watching, no need for words.” Bodhi Patriarch said no more.
The chaotic energy reversed, and the scene suddenly changed.
After the chaotic energy dissipated, a desolate wasteland appeared, with a figure standing on a cliff in the distance.
Dressed in silver robes and armor, exuding an extraordinary presence, holding a two-bladed trident, his expression was stern and unyielding, his eyes fixed intently ahead. Beside him crouched a large dog, entirely black and imposing.
“Erlang Shen?” I exclaimed in surprise.
Erlang Shen stood atop the cliff as black mist began to rise slowly before him.
Before long, the black mist had covered half the ground. It was demonic energy, heralding the appearance of Demon Soldier!
Erlang Shen remained still, yet his body began to float slowly. The Howling Hound, however, did not move; instead, it lay down on the ground, licking its paws as if it had not noticed the Demon Soldier at all.
Yang Jian stood at the edge, facing millions of Demon Soldier. The million Demon Soldier were arranged in perfect formation, their bodies radiating demonic energy that painted the entire area in pitch black. Occasionally, demonic creatures would poke their heads out from the mist or stretch out their arms, each one filled with rage as they howled upwards.
The Second Prince raised one hand and gently bit into it to draw blood, then traced a line of blood across his forehead.
The bloodline slowly cracked open, revealing a pair of bright eyes. The eyes narrowed slightly, and with a whoosh, emitted an unparalleled divine light.
The divine light pierced through the demonic energy, creating a large hole in it.
Not only that, after Erlang Shen released the divine light, he closed his eyes and turned his head to the far right, sweeping a glance from right to left at the Demon Soldier formation.
Like ice and snow meeting fire, the Demon Soldiers shattered under the divine light, screaming in agony. In an instant, a neatly arranged formation of Demon Soldiers dissolved and scattered.
The demonic energy dissipated, and Erlang Shen wiped his forehead, causing the divine light to vanish. Erlang Shen slowly descended. As Erlang Shen returned to the cliff, the Howling Hound stood up from the ground. Erlang Shen gently placed his hand on the Howling Hound's head, and the scene began to fade away.
Chaos Energy once again enveloped the area, and Bodhi Patriarch appeared before me.
"The ultimate Spiritual Sight is the eye."
The scene shifted again to the Eight Treasures Mystique, which consists of eight ordinary yet special Spells. Learning these eight Spells is not difficult; in fact, they can serve as foundational Spells for Taoist Sect practitioners. However, mastering all eight Spells simultaneously is incredibly challenging because no one has ever achieved this feat.
Erlang Shen's Spiritual Sight, or eye, represents the pinnacle of Spiritual Sight. When the divine light emerges, who can contend with it? Just a casual glance can crush the demonic army. With the previous 'Soaring Straight Up for Ninety Thousand Miles' Wind Walk at its peak, who would dare say that Eight Treasures Mystique is merely a simple Spell?
Of course, aside from my proficiency in Spiritual Sight and Wind Walk, Eight Treasures Mystique also includes Samadhi Fire, Soul Summoning Technique, Summoning Technique, Talisman Magic, Transcendental Sutra, and the most difficult Surveying Technique.
Samadhi Fire refers broadly to fire control techniques. The Soul Summoning Technique and Talisman Magic are self-explanatory from their names. The Summoning Technique is my final trump card at present, although it is not stable. The Transcendental Sutra is not limited to just one scripture; however, the most challenging is still the Surveying Technique.
Among the other seven Spells, except for Samadhi Fire which requires talismans to assist me in casting it, I can already freely perform the others. But with Surveying Technique, I have yet to even touch its edges. Of course, Surveying is not just about surveying terrain; it actually encompasses two types of Spells: exploration and measurement—exploring fate and measuring future lives.
Thus, Eight Treasures Mystique is not simple at all.
