The flames that surged up illuminated the faces of me and Wang Ni. Before long, the fire ignited by the black smoke had already extinguished, leaving only the charred and blackened Invaders still bound.
However, the light from the fire did not diminish, as the teaching building nearby had also caught fire.
"Make a wish?" I teased Wang Ni, who had finally come to her senses.
"I hope the fire goes out soon. Will that work?" Wang Ni asked innocently with her big eyes, pretending to be delicate.
"Not likely," I shrugged. "I'm not familiar with the Water Virtue Star Lord either. You might as well ask the Old Dragon King if he has time."
If those two really showed up, this little fire wouldn't be a problem at all.
"What should we do then?" Wang Ni finally realized she was scared.
"If the fire can't be put out, then let's make use of it."
"How do we use it?"
I casually picked up an Invader. Although I had driven away its Corpse Poison, it was still bound by my Taiji Diagram. The Invader could still move, and despite being free of Corpse Poison, it was clawing and trying to bite me.
With a push from Wind Walk, I took the Invader to the top floor and threw it forcefully into the raging flames. Since the fire was burning so well, I figured I might as well take advantage of it; later, I could even throw more Invaders into the flames.
Just as I tossed one in, strong gusts of wind rose from below. Wang Ni was using her strength to throw those Invaders one by one into the flames.
This girl really shouldn't be underestimated; she could be dangerous.
"Wow, you guys are playing this big?" Just as Wang Ni was having a blast, a teasing voice slowly came from below.
Old Black's head gradually emerged from underground.
"Are you still in the mood for sarcasm?" I landed on the ground, stacking my fingers and poking at Old Black's hat.
Old Black usually wore a tall hat with 'Catching You' written on it.
"What happened to Red Boy?" Red Boy had previously been affected by True Fire; I wondered how he was doing now.
"He's soaking in Three Rivers Water, and the fire has already been suppressed. However, his Viscera is injured, so he's recuperating in Yama's Hall. Yama King has plenty of medicine, so he should recover quickly," Old Black replied.
That's good to hear; my anxious heart finally relaxed. Red Boy was no longer that mischievous Holy Infant King. Now, he had not only saved my life but also helped us evacuate the students. He got injured because I left him on the playground. If anything were to happen to him because of me, I would regret it deeply.
"Old Black, do you have any way to put out this fire?" Wang Ni asked.
"Put out what? Let it burn," Old Black said. "Just make sure it doesn't spread to the other buildings."
Before long, the entire teaching building was engulfed in flames, thick black smoke billowing upwards. Meanwhile, more and more people began gathering below the building.
The first to arrive was Night Wanderer, who had dealt with the Corpse on the playground. Then a few instructors from the Execution Office showed up, followed by Wenquxing.
No one attempted to extinguish the fire; they simply watched the building burn and tried their best not to let it affect the other structures nearby.
"What does this mean?" I asked Old Black.
"You can't let outsiders know we were attacked by Evil Cultivators, can you? So this fire can serve as a cover. As for how it started, we can say anything—faulty wiring, a cigarette butt—whatever gives an explanation to the outside world."
Seeing that it was almost done, Wenquxing waved his hand: "Put it out."
Immediately, someone brought hoses and fire extinguishers; they were quite professional about it. It seemed this wasn't their first time dealing with such a situation; they had certainly done this before.
Now that there was nothing left to handle except for those students still possessed in the hospital, everyone began to relax once the fire in the teaching building was extinguished.
"By the way!" I reminded Wenquxing, "Should we remind those students not to cause trouble?"
"How should we remind them?" Wenquxing huffed, "Their mouths are their own; if they really want to go out, there's nothing we can do. As long as we insist that this matter is just a fire, it should be fine."
"I'll recommend someone to you, but after this is over, you have to help me with something."
"Who?"
"Meng Po from the Bridge of Helplessness, Meng Jiangnu!"
Isn't that right? Meng Jiangnu is still waiting at the school gate. When it comes to brainwashing, no high-tech machine can compare to her! Although she can no longer make Meng Po Soup, she must still have some leftovers from before.
Moreover, Yama King asked me to take care of her daughter, but I am currently staying at another girl's house like a clay statue crossing a river, unable to protect myself. But if Wenquxing is willing to help Meng Jiangnu, with such a large JZ Normal University, would there be any problem finding her a place to stay? The meal issue would also be resolved, right?
But why would Wenquxing help Meng Jiangnu? So as long as Meng Jiangnu can help Wenquxing resolve this matter first, everything will be fine.
"Meng Jiangnu? Wouldn't that turn my students into fools one by one?" Wenquxing said irritably.
"Just go take a look; it's better than being clueless here," Old Black chimed in at the crucial moment.
"Where is she?" Wenquxing asked.
"In the security room," I replied. "You guys go find her; I'm leaving first."
I grabbed Wang Ni and tried to escape from the scene of the incident.
"Hey, where are you going?" Old Black stopped me.
"To eat! Do you really think I'm made of iron?" I found an excuse.
However, thinking about it, wow, it's almost three in the afternoon. Aside from breakfast, I've only had half a pack of crackers. At this rate, I won't need any Infected, Invaders, or Corpses to take me down; I'll starve myself first.
"Oh, then you all go ahead," Wenquxing said, lowering his head and walking away with a heavy heart.
"Want to eat? Let's go together," Old Black said shamelessly.
"Have some self-respect, will you? You're a ghost; what are you going to eat?" I retorted disdainfully.
"Shameless people eat well; heartless people sleep soundly."
""
There's no way to deal with someone who has no shame at all.
I took Old Black and Wang Ni to Red Bean Affection. It wasn't that I was angry; I just wanted to treat them to noodles. I simply can't eat meat, and Boss Lady Ah Wan's place doesn't sell meat, so I feel more at ease eating there. Who knows if those other restaurants clean their pans after frying meat?
The lunch rush had already passed, and dinner time was still far off; the entire food street was nearly empty.
JZ Normal University's security measures were quite good. If it were an ordinary university, after what just happened, those streets would probably be in chaos. But now, with such a big incident at JZ Normal University, it seemed like the people in those streets were completely unaware.
Through the glass door, I saw that aside from the cashier Luan not being there, Boss Lady Ah Wan and the waitress Qu were still in the shop. The landlady was behind the counter looking at something while Qu quietly sat there as if she were knitting.
I pushed open the door and shouted loudly before Qu could welcome me: "Three bowls of noodles, and make them large!"
I was so hungry I could drink a whole pot of noodle soup, so I ordered a large bowl for myself right away. Since I ordered a large bowl for myself, it would be unreasonable not to get one for Old Black as well. As for Wang Ni, don't let her cold demeanor fool you; she pretends to be a lady, but trust me, she can eat like there's no tomorrow—her appetite can match one and a half of mine.
"What kind of noodles?" the landlady asked lazily as if she had just woken up from a nap.
"Any kind of noodles is fine; I'm not picky."
"Alright." The Landlady stood up and went to the wall to cook noodles. "Qu, serve the tea."
Qu obediently brought tea for me, Wang Ni, and Black Wuchang. It was honeysuckle tea, soothing for the throat!
Black Wuchang took the teacup and surprisingly reached out to pat Qu's head, asking softly, "Sister, how old are you?"
"Pfft!" I almost spat water on Black Wuchang's face.
"What the hell, Yin Zheng'an, are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"Hey, Old Black, which dynasty were you from before you died?" I asked curiously.
"The Ming Dynasty, why? By age, you should at least call me Ancestor." Old Black tilted his head back proudly. (Actually, there is no record of which dynasty Black and White Impermanence belonged to.)
"Nothing much, just that this girl grew up with Red Boy." I lifted my teacup and took a sip, feeling content. "She calls me brother, so when it comes to seniority, it's not certain who should call whom Ancestor."
Looking at Old Black's surprised expression, I felt quite pleased!
