While I was Divine Wandering in the Void, Lin Miaomiao happened to come in and called me for dinner. However, after calling me several times with no response, she used her key to open the guest room door. Upon checking my breathing, she found that I was not breathing at all, which panicked her, and she quickly took me to the hospital.
When we arrived at the hospital, a doctor listened to my heartbeat and checked my pulse, then declared that I was dead and suggested cremation.
Thus, my 'body' was sent to the funeral home, and coincidentally, it seemed that Master Song was staying in a room next door.
I quickly found a car and urged Lin Miaomiao to take me to the funeral home. You might wonder why I was in such a hurry. Think about it; the funeral home keeps bodies in cold storage. If my body stayed there too long, what if something got damaged? Wouldn't I be at a loss?
Lin Miaomiao found an excuse and hurried out the door, hailing a taxi to rush to the funeral home.
I had never been to a funeral home before. If it weren't for Lin Miaomiao guiding me, by the time I found it, my ** would have turned into a popsicle. It wouldn't just be about getting damaged; even thawing could scare my soul away.
The funeral home was located in the suburbs, along the same road as the previous zoo, just further away. After all, it wouldn't make sense to place a funeral home in the city center; even nearby residents couldn't go without heating.
The funeral home was entirely white, with a large cemetery on the hillside behind it. As soon as I entered, I felt a solemn atmosphere that was quite oppressive.
"Um, you guys aren't planning to cremate me right away, are you?" I hesitated. But now that I was here, if something really happened to my **, I wouldn't have to run around looking for a host; I could just find someone more handsome than me in the cold storage.
"I've never been here either; it was brought over from the hospital," Lin Miaomiao said apologetically. "I’m still considering how to talk to your cousin."
I could tell her how; she didn't need to find an excuse. She could just call him over directly to cremate me—it would definitely be much more efficient than the funeral home and cleaner too.
Generally speaking, when a body is sent to a funeral home, it won't be cremated immediately. Some bodies are kept for quite some time, and even when they are cremated, they must be cleaned and dressed in new clothes first.
When I saw my ** about to be placed on the washing table, thankfully, it hadn't been touched much. Those who wash bodies were all quite old. After all, who young would want to wash a body? Just being touched by those old folks made me feel quite disgusted.
In a flash, my soul transformed into a beam of light and directly dove into my body.
After a moment of adjustment, I opened my eyes and sat up with a start.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Three loud thuds echoed around me, and when I glanced over, I saw the three people who intended to undress me and wash my body were all frightened and collapsed.
"What are you staring at? Never seen a corpse come back to life?" I shouted, channeling energy into my feet with Wind Walk, grabbing Lin Miaomiao and sprinting away.
There was no way to explain this; the more I tried, the messier it would get. It was better to just leave.
Finally back in my own body, I felt a weight lift off my heart. Although I could borrow someone else's body to come back to life, it wasn't truly mine. If I used someone else's body, all my previous cultivation would be wasted; both the Taiji Diagram and the three-point Azure Flower would be gone. Plus, my mustard seed bag was still in my previous body—I'd end up with nothing.
However, just as I was about to run out of the funeral home, I saw the group that had caused trouble at Lin Miaomiao's house heading toward the funeral home. I immediately abandoned my plan to leave and pulled Lin Miaomiao down into the bushes beside us.
Among that group, two people were carrying large bags and headed straight into the funeral home.
"Miao Miao, why don't you go back first?" I asked Lin Miaomiao. This time, I had to resolve this completely.
"No," Lin Miaomiao shook her head vigorously like a rattle drum. "I want to go with you."
"What are you going to do?" I asked in surprise. "Things might get really spooky; you mustn't be scared."
"Well, let's consider it a test of courage," Lin Miaomiao said sneakily as she looked at me.
Alright then, since Lin Miaomiao is still a descendant of Maoshan, if she wants to go, let her go. It's just a practice for psychological resilience.
That group of people walked into the lobby of the funeral home, and only then did I see the old lady there, wiping her tears. Master Song's son took out a dozen boxes of takeout from a bag to comfort the old lady and encourage her to eat.
"By the way, Miao Miao, have you eaten?" I suddenly felt very hungry. I hadn't eaten breakfast and had missed lunch; my stomach was almost touching my back.
"No, I was too busy bringing you to the funeral home and didn't have time to eat." That sounded so strange to me.
"Shall we go eat?"
"Let's go!"
The funeral home is in a relatively remote area, and it's a place where dead people are kept; no one opens a restaurant here. There is a cafeteria, but I absolutely cannot eat there.
Why? Because I'm vegetarian! Who knows if they clean the pot after cooking meat in that big pot?
I also needed to deal with Lin Miaomiao's family matters. If I lost my powers at this moment, it would really be like catching shrimp (blindly), or rather catching lobsters.
Although my Wind Walking Technique is quite fast, I couldn't drag Lin Miaomiao to run that far, so I hailed a cab to find a restaurant. I wasn't worried about Old Man's Son and the others leaving. Think about it; they brought food into the lobby of the funeral home to eat. They must be planning to stay for a while. Did they buy food just to eat at the funeral home and then leave? That would be such a waste!
I found a roadside restaurant that smelled good and seemed relatively clean.
"What do you want to eat?" Lin Miaomiao asked me.
"What else can I eat?" I replied, "Just order whatever you like, we can have our dishes cooked separately."
"Are you treating?"
"Sure."
"Then I want something good."
"Steamed lamb, steamed bear paw, steamed deer tail, roasted duck, roasted chick, roasted goose, braised dishes, salted duck, soy sauce chicken, cured meat, fluffy cake, tripe?"
"Order whatever you want. I don't believe this restaurant can serve up all those dishes."
"What else do you want?" The Boss asked while writing down my previous orders.
"Do you really have those dishes?"
"We have everything except steamed bear paw and steamed deer tail," the Boss replied as he looked at me.
"Alright then, let's forget the previous orders. I'll have one Crispy Tofu, one Water Spinach, and one Seaweed Soup without egg," Lin Miaomiao's pleasant voice came through.
"Are you vegetarian too?" I looked at Lin Miaomiao in surprise.
"Just came from the funeral home, how could I eat meat?" Lin Miaomiao shrugged.
Usually, Lin Miaomiao doesn't diet. Although she doesn't eat a lot, she doesn't avoid anything and doesn't worry about calories. She particularly loves high-calorie foods. Yet, she never gains weight, and her only exercise is morning workouts, which is enough to make many girls envious.
"By the way, don't use lard," I reminded Boss.
"Got it," Boss replied and turned to start cooking.
Before long, the dishes were served. Surprisingly, Boss's cooking skills were quite good.
After finishing the meal, we quickly returned to the funeral home, and as expected, Old Man's Son and the old lady were still there.
"What do we do now?" Lin Miaomiao and I sat in a corner, observing Old Man's Son and the others.
"You should call your dad first and tell him I'm not dead yet." It occurred to me that I hadn't informed Lin Miaomiao's parents that I was still alive.
Lin Miaomiao obediently made the call. By the time she returned, Master Song's son had already called over what appeared to be a staff member from the funeral home, seemingly to see his father's body.
What does he want? Why would he want to see the body for no reason? The body has already been examined by the public security bureau; even if he wanted to change something, it wouldn't matter now.
"Lin Miaomiao, from now on, try not to stay too far from me," I said as I pulled her closer.
I formed a Spell and set up a Barrier Realm. This Barrier is essentially a form of Taoist Arts, a kind of illusion that can only deceive those ordinary people who do not understand.
With this Barrier in place, I followed closely behind Master Song's son as he entered the Ice Storage of the funeral home.
Master Song's body was still lying in the Ice Storage. As soon as Master Song's son saw his father's corpse, he cried out, "Wow!" and embraced Master Song's body without letting go.
His wailing was so heart-wrenching that it brought tears to the listeners' eyes and sorrow to their hearts.
I knew what he was planning. Look, the White-eyed Wolf was recording everything on his phone. It seemed he intended to post this online to pressure Lin Miaomiao's Father.
This was too ruthless. Lin Miaomiao's Father had sincerely admitted his mistake. If it weren't for Master Song's Second Son asking for an outrageous amount, this matter wouldn't have dragged on for so long. Previously, Master Song's eldest son was more reasonable; although his demands were somewhat high, they were still within reason, and Lin Miaomiao's Father had agreed. However, the Second Son was being excessive, demanding ten times more than what had been previously discussed.
Ten was definitely not a small amount. While it might not be an issue for wealthy individuals, Lin Miaomiao's family appeared affluent but actually didn't have much money. They were still in debt; if it weren't for their clear wrongdoing, this would be considered extortion.
While Master Song's son was crying, I said to Lin Miaomiao, "Don't shout later; I'll treat you to a show."
Taking out the Judgment Seal, I addressed Master Song's soul inside: "Sir, your son and wife are here; you may go now."
A flash of light appeared from the Judgment Seal, and Master Song's soul departed. I could see that light directly entering the corpse in the ice cabinet.
"Dad, you died so tragically!" Master Song's son cried out as suddenly Master Song's corpse opened its eyes!
