First came the sun and moon, then the division of Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang are extremely important concepts in Taoism, even serving as the driving force behind five thousand years of Chinese culture, predating both Tai Chi and Gossip by a significant margin.
Yang Fire represents ferocity and is the nemesis of all Evil Energy. Its characteristic is to burn away Evil Spirits, but it cannot ignite in the absence of sunlight. Yin and Yang are opposites; thus, Yin Fire is the exact opposite of Yang Fire. Yin Fire represents erosion and is a slowly burning flame. Its characteristic is a faint white color, almost invisible; a spark can ignite a vast fire, and Yin Fire is no different. Once ignited, it is difficult to extinguish! However, it cannot be lit in places illuminated by moonlight—this last point remains a mystery to me.
Although Yin Fire burns slowly, it is a flame that can erode deeply. It can consume everything that burns, leaving no trace behind.
Once Yin Fire ignited, the previously menacing Corpse-Feeding Ghost collapsed on the spot. Although incinerating Master Song's body was quite disrespectful to him, there was no other choice; all my other methods had lost their effectiveness against the already 'resurrected' Corpse-Feeding Ghost. To truly eliminate it, I had to completely destroy the corpse.
Yin Fire burned very slowly but meticulously; by the time it extinguished, Master Song's body had been reduced to nothing but ashes.
"Recitation of the Ten Faults, Zhu Yao Chang, Ten Thousand Emperors pay their respects. Silent River and Sea, Mountain Hidden in Clouds. Sun and Moon Stand Still, The Celestial Gem Cannot Move. Demonic Binding, Ghostly Purification. Revive the Dead, White Bone Transformation. Scholar of Ultimate Learning, Recitation of the Ten Faults. Thus Five Emperors' Guards, Three Realms Suppression, Demonic Essence Lost Eyes, Ghost Demon Extermination, Dying to Save, Obtain Life After Death. Therefore Scholar, Pollution Has Not Cleared, Body Not Yet Enlightened, Summon the Ten Directions, Unestablished Authority, Deity of Earth, Binding Spirit; yet dead nonetheless, unable to be reborn. Recite This Chapter Lightly; one’s body will suffer calamity. Offering Respectful Tribute, Portal Prosperity. Eternal Prosperity with good causes and conditions. Disaster-Free Divine Guardian. The Sutra is Profound and Wonderful; Unparalleled Jade Capital. Limitless Salvation as The Origin of All Paths; Majestic Brahma whose virtue is hard to surpass."
The Transcendental Sutra was not recited for the Corpse-Feeding Ghost but rather for those corpses resting in the funeral home. What wrongs have they committed? They are already dead yet still subjected to beatings by those four spirits? Did they also endure such punishment in Yama's Hall? If so, that would be truly tragic.
Looking at the charred tile on the ground, I turned to see Master Song's son and his group.
"Are you awake?" I asked them. Previously when I pulled the Greedy Ghost from Song Family Second Son's body, he had been in a daze. Even now he seemed still disoriented; however, he should have witnessed what happened earlier.
"Come here," I beckoned him over. Song Family Second Son stepped out of the Golden Light Spell's circle as it began to dissipate.
"Official Blessing; All Restrictions Lifted." I performed a hand gesture to grant Song Family Second Son Spiritual Sight and released Master Song from Judgment Seal. Before he could express his surprise, I directly pulled Lin Miaomiao out with me.
"What did you make him do?" Lin Miaomiao asked curiously.
"I let him see his father; sigh, his father has suffered too much. By the way, where's your dad?"
"At home; do you want me to call him over?"
"Just call your dad over." Lin Miaomiao said, as her dad already knew my identity, making some things easier to discuss with him.
"Okay, I'll call him." Lin Miaomiao picked up her phone to make the call.
I slumped in the hall of the funeral home. At this time, there were hardly any people left, probably because the cleaner had caused a stir about the place being haunted, and everyone had run off.
After finishing her call, Lin Miaomiao returned to my side, hugging her bag and sitting quietly next to me.
Before long, a black light shot directly into my Judgment Seal; Master Song had returned.
The Song Family Second Son walked out from the morgue, and the hostility on his face had diminished significantly.
"Did you clarify everything?" I asked him, reaching out to cancel his Spiritual Sight.
"I did clarify everything, Brother Yin. Thank you." The Song Family Second Son suddenly bowed deeply to me.
"So what do you plan to do from now on?"
"I'll follow the agreement my brother made before."
"By the way, is that how your brother got into the hospital?" If his brother hadn't been in the hospital, this situation probably wouldn't have escalated like this.
"He lost a poker game on his phone and threw it on the ground, which caused an explosion."
"What kind of phone was he using?"
"Samsung NE7."
"Serves you right, how dare you throw this thing."
After all, this is also the headquarters of the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs, and soon people from the Execution Office came to handle the aftermath. Before long, Lin Miaomiao's father arrived. I briefly explained the situation and hurried back to JZ Normal University with Lin Miaomiao.
After returning to Lin Miaomiao's home, I made another trip to the Underworld to return Master Song and the captured ghost to Yama King. This matter was finally resolved.
Liu Wan
"What’s going on? You can’t even handle such a simple task? Do it again!"
The sound of roaring echoed in the Boss's office, and the person standing in the office was me.
My name is Liu Wan. I graduated from JZ Normal University and stayed in J Province after graduation, working as a secretary in a large company.
I have always been an ordinary girl—average looks, average family background, average height—one of those types that you wouldn’t notice in a crowd. I didn’t even have much presence; even at previous class reunions, no one invited me to join.
Although I had no background and no experience, often making mistakes and enduring the Boss's scoldings, I still held hope for the future. I wanted to establish myself in J Province through my own efforts.
With this beautiful aspiration and a monthly salary of five dollars, I have been living in J Province for four years since graduating from JZ Normal University.
Even with frugality, I still couldn’t save much. My monthly rent was five dollars, and with living expenses and some necessary expenditures, I could only save about eight dollars each month.
The happiest thing for me is watching dramas at home after work. You have no idea, the male lead in the new drama I'm following is so handsome!
But today, I probably won't be able to go home and watch dramas because I made a mistake in the report for my boss, and now my boss wants me to stay late tonight to redo it.
Holding the documents, I returned to my computer and said to myself, "Come on! Work hard! It's not a big deal!"
Dinner was a simple takeout. Because of the report, I stayed alone in the office. The only light on was above my head, and when I looked at the clock, it was almost midnight.
The report was basically finished. Struggling to keep my eyes open, I checked every sentence of the report word by word; I absolutely cannot afford to be scolded for negligence.
"Ah~" After checking the last word, I stretched comfortably and released all my stress, slumping into my office chair.
Finally done! I'm going home! But before that, I need to stop by the Midnight Diner downstairs to satisfy my hunger.
When I walked out of the company, it was already 1 AM. Fortunately, tomorrow is the weekend, so I don't have to work. The streets were empty, with only a few cars passing by occasionally. The subway was definitely no longer running; I had no idea when the last train was. When I reached the bus stop, I was completely hopeless—the last bus had already left at 11 PM, which meant I had to walk back to my apartment.
Oh right, can't I just use my phone to call a cab now? It should be especially cheap for first-time users; let me give it a try.
Since it was so late, there was only one car nearby, but at least I was lucky enough not to have to walk. My apartment is a full 5 kilometers away from the company!
The company is located in the Business Center, while my apartment is closer to the suburbs because it's cheaper there. If I rented a place in the city center, there wouldn't be much left of my salary.
The taxi arrived quite quickly; however, it seemed like the driver wasn't very chatty. That's fine; it's just right for me to lie back and rest for a bit.
"Miss, we're here." After an unknown amount of time, the driver woke me up.
"Really?" I sat up groggily and rubbed my eyes. "How much is it?"
"You don't need to pay in cash; you can pay through the app," the driver replied in a somewhat dazed and mechanical voice.
I thought to myself, how convenient! Without asking further, I pushed the door open and got out of the car.
I was still feeling disoriented, and as I rubbed my eyes, I realized this wasn't my home downstairs.
Turning around, I was nearly scared to death—the taxi was gone!
Looking around, I found myself in a dense forest, surrounded by trees as thick as a bowl. There was no way any vehicle could have driven in here.
My scalp began to tingle, and all I wanted was to get out of this forest quickly.
But the forest seemed vast; I ran for a long time without seeing an exit.
The night was already deep, and there was not a single sound in this forest.
"Whoosh~ Whoosh~"
I heard a faint sound of water.
I hurriedly ran toward the direction of the sound, and sure enough, a river began to appear ahead.
I recognized this river; it was the one next to JZ Normal University. It seemed that as long as I followed the river, I would be able to find JZ Normal University.
I started walking in the direction of the flowing river, with nothing but the sound of water around me.
In the cold wind, I wrapped my clothes tightly around myself.
"Come, come, come."
Suddenly, a voice that made my teeth ache echoed through the forest. At that moment, I finally caught sight of JZ Normal University and ignored the voice, beginning to sprint towards it.
"You finally made it."
A figure emerged from the water.
The forest remained silent, but a series of bubbles surfaced in the center of the River.
"Saturday."
"Strange, where did Wan go?"
"She didn't take a leave?"
"No."
