As the saying goes, "Don't hit the face when you hit someone." But I didn't hit his face, can you blame me? If you challenge the hardness of glass with the thickness of your skin, isn't that just foolish? Right?
However, Zhong Shao didn't seem to think so. He looked at me, his eyes almost blazing with anger, but how could fire actually come out of his eyes? This kind of skill is easy to learn; I can introduce you to an expert whose last name is Hong, and the price is reasonable.
Ahem, I digress.
But it's not just me; as a guy, if your stance is so unstable that you fall over with a push, it clearly shows you haven't been paying attention to your posture. You're relying too much on your waist and abdomen, which leads to kidney deficiency and makes you weak.
However, Zhong Shao didn't seem to appreciate my good intentions. His face was dark enough to squeeze out water.
"Hmph. I've really never seen someone so ungrateful. Forget it, Zhao Kuan, you handle this." Zhong Shao didn't waste any more words and returned to his original position.
Wow, is there someone even better at putting on airs than me? Truly, the world is vast and full of wonders.
Zhao Kuan looked at me with a cold smile. Since Zhong Shao had spoken, it meant that no matter what trouble arose, Zhong Shao would come to settle it. Zhao Kuan wasn't exactly a good person; he had gained a bit of fame through being fierce and combative. Hearing that Zhong Shao not only didn’t blame him for handling things poorly but also designated him to resolve this matter made him secretly pleased. It seemed that as long as he handled this in a way that pleased Zhong Shao, he wouldn't have to worry about whether he could cling to Zhong Shao's coattails. Once he did that, wouldn’t he be able to walk around freely in his territory? With this thought in mind, Zhao Kuan even considered breaking one of my arms to make Zhong Shao feel more satisfied.
Seeing Zhao Kuan's fierce expression, I had a pretty good idea of what kind of person he was. If he were truly Zhong Shao's confidant, Zhong Shao wouldn't give such casual orders; it was clear that if anything went wrong, Zhong Shao would immediately shift the blame. This big fool still naively thought he was being valued.
Zhao Kuan walked up to me and reached out to grab my shoulder; he clearly had experience.
Grabbing my shoulder would allow him to test my strength and also make it easy for him to pull me back if I tried to run away.
I was feeling quite conflicted about whether to fight back or endure for now. This guy was obviously just a jumping shrimp; if I fought back and startled him, it would be counterproductive. But if I didn’t fight back, this big fool didn’t seem like someone who would show mercy either.
Exposing myself to someone like him would be a disgrace to the outfit I wore with Shaoming, wouldn’t it? Fortunately for me, luck was on my side at that moment when someone appeared who perfectly resolved this dilemma.
“Zhao Kuan! What are you doing?” A somewhat familiar voice rang out. Upon hearing this voice, Zhao Kuan instantly wilted; his hand that had been raised high suddenly found nowhere to go.
I turned around and saw another young man surrounded by a large group of people behind him. He was wearing a stylish jacket that looked quite sharp, with one earphone hanging around his neck, jeans, and basketball shoes—clearly still a student.
"Wang Wang," Zhao Kuan smiled awkwardly upon seeing the person, "What a coincidence, it's you!"
Zhao Kuan rubbed his hands together, his nervous tone and hurried attempts to build rapport couldn't hide his embarrassment.
From behind the newcomer stepped another person, pointing at Zhao Kuan's nose, "Hey Zhao, are you tired of living? You dare to lay a hand on this guy?"
Who is this? Does he know me? I don't have any impression of him at all.
"You should leave for your own good," 'Wang' said calmly.
"But this guy has offended Zhong Shao, it won't be easy for me to explain when I go back," Zhao Kuan explained.
"Zhong Shao? You mean Zhong Shangqi, the son of Zhong Zhi who sells building materials? He calls himself Zhong Shao? That's quite an exaggeration," the person pointing at Zhao Kuan provocatively remarked.
Who are these people? They seem to know me well. I've never seen them before! Why do they act like they are familiar with me and as if they've suffered losses at my hands?
The leading student approached me and awkwardly greeted, "Um, Yin Zheng'an, right? Ango?"
The student glanced at Shaoming and added, "Ango is Ango; he's just changed his female companion again."
Again? What does that mean? Do I know you, classmate? But he must know me since he mentioned my name. However, I truly have no recollection of him.
"Who are you?" I asked in confusion.
"I'm Wang Lin," the student replied.
Wang Lin? Now that he mentioned it, I seem to remember. There was a student who wanted to pursue Lin Miaomiao and regarded me as a rival. He once cornered me and Red Boy in an alley.
At that time, my name happened to be a counter to his; so it turns out it's him? That incident was long ago, and I'd completely forgotten about it. I didn't expect he would still remember.
“Ango, do you like this?” Wang Lin looked at Shaoming.
“Ahem.” I coughed lightly twice, signaling to keep it down. I whispered, “You and Lin Miaomiao?”
“Yeah, it didn’t work out. Thanks to Ango for the reminder, I took her out for a bowl of noodles and realized that I actually don’t like girls like Lin Miaomiao.” Wang Lin said cheerfully, “And now Lin Miaomiao and I are friends.”
“Is that so?” I asked, “How did you end up here?”
“I’m here to celebrate a friend’s birthday; we already booked a place upstairs. So, Ango, are you interested in joining us for a bit?” Wang Lin asked. “By the way, how did you offend that guy named Zhong Shangqi?”
“He’s got his eyes on my companion.” I chuckled, “He even planned to trade with me for her, using the one he has on hand.”
I pointed at ‘Zhu Zhu’.
“I knew it.” Wang Lin said, “That guy isn’t from around here, but he acts really arrogant. Plus, his dad is wealthy, so he looks down on others. Don’t worry, Ango, I’ll handle this!”
“Then it’s a trouble for you.” I genuinely didn’t want to stir up trouble; having Wang Lin as a shield was just perfect.
On the other side, Zhao Kuan approached with a fawning smile, bringing Zhong Shao over. As soon as Zhong Shao saw Wang Lin, his expression changed. Wang Lin didn’t say anything, but the person who had pointed at Zhao Kuan earlier stepped forward.
Compared to Zhao Kuan, this was the behavior of a true confidant; those who step in to resolve issues without waiting for their leader's orders are the most appreciated.
“Zhong Shangqi, do you think this place is just any market?”
“You know him?” Zhong Shangqi ignored the person speaking and focused on Wang Lin.
“He’s my friend. What’s wrong with that?” Wang Lin replied aggressively.
"Since you know, I will admit my fault," Zhong Shangqi was quite wary of Wang Lin, and since it wasn't a big deal, he decided to take a step back. After all, Wang Lin's father happened to be in charge of Zhong Shao's father in J Province. Even if things escalated, it would ultimately be Zhong Shao who suffered. Zhong Shao was very clear about this; he could deal with others, but when it came to Wang Lin, he could only retreat.
"Is that how it works?" Wang Lin, however, did not intend to let the matter rest. "My sister is a decent person; what have you turned her into? You think you can just walk away without an apology?"
Shaoming was quietly observing, but I could tell from her expression that she was very displeased.
"Fine." To everyone's surprise, Zhong Shangqi agreed readily. A person stepped out from behind him, pulled out a stack of cash, placed it on my table, and then left with his group.
What does this mean? Wasn't this supposed to be an apology? Why did they leave?
Wang Lin picked up the stack of cash and handed it to me. "Ango, what's wrong? Is it not enough?"
"Wasn't this supposed to be an apology? Why did they leave?"
"This is the sincerity of the apology," Wang Lin said as he shoved the money into my arms. "You don't mix in these circles, so you might not know. Here, unless things are serious, we generally don't apologize. We're all just trying to get by; there's no need to humiliate someone."
"But he just humiliated me," I frowned. "Can I throw the money back at him and then beat him up?"
"You can, but that would mean tearing up the relationship. If you do that, I can't help you anymore; my family is strict lately and doesn't allow me to cause trouble," Wang Lin said lightly.
I knew Wang Lin was just making excuses; given our relationship, he wouldn't risk tearing things apart for me. So he quickly found a reason. I understood; it was already good enough that he was willing to stand up for me. Damn it, I couldn't act impulsively right now; I really hoped I wouldn't have to see that Zhong guy again!
"Shaoming, what do you think?" I asked Shaoming.
Shaoming looked up and responded with a sound before walking up to Wang Lin and pushing his head down. "You think you're so tough for stepping in? Do you believe I won't tell your mom?"
"Hey, hey, Auntie, that's not fair! I just helped you solve a big trouble!" Wang Lin protested.
"Do you know each other?" I was left standing aside, watching the two of them.
"Aunt, is this my Uncle? I tell you, he's even younger than me by a year," Wang Lin said to Shaoming.
"Don't be ridiculous!" Shaoming gave Wang Lin a light smack on the head. "This is your aunt's master. Who do you think you're talking to?"
The two of them ignored me.
Wang Lin looked at Shaoming's outfit with amusement. "You can fool me all you want, but who dresses like that to go clubbing with their master? Aunt, do you really like this kind of young man?"
"Is this your nephew?" I pointed at Shaoming and asked, but still no one paid attention to me.
"What are you doing here?" Shaoming asked bluntly. "Where's your mom? I should tell Sister Mei that her son is out partying at a nightclub."
"Aunt, I'm here for a birthday party, not out partying! And aren't you the one who claims to have been through countless flowers without getting touched? What's this? Are you feeling hungry?"
"Do you believe I could beat you up?"
"Are you going to make Uncle take action?"
I remained silent.
