Sitting in the private room, the loud music drowned me out. I had already changed out of that 'alternative' outfit back into normal clothes. I had disguised myself earlier to avoid drawing attention, but once I got in, I realized that wearing this made me stand out even more.
Well, I always thought that those who frequented nightclubs dressed like I used to, but I was wrong. It's not that wealthy people don't go to nightclubs; it's just that they don't go to low-end ones.
The relationship between Wang Lin and Shaoming is quite complex yet simple. Although Wang Lin calls Shaoming "Aunt," there is no blood relation, and Wang Lin is not a demon either. It seems that Wang Lin's mother has a good relationship with Shaoming, and Shaoming even introduced Wang Lin's father (from a second marriage) to her. In Wang Lin's eyes, Shaoming and his mother are of the same generation.
As for why Wang Lin didn't suspect anything about Shaoming looking so young, Wang Lin always thought she was just a well-maintained classmate. But this is no longer just about maintenance; someone like Shaoming can only be described as a mountain spirit.
So in Wang Lin's eyes, Shaoming is already in her forties, while he knows my name and must also know that I am a junior compared to him.
Why am I being so enthusiastic? It turns out it wasn't directed at me at all! Right, Shaoming does have some reputation at JZ Normal University. If a guy likes a girl and she doesn't know his background, all she needs to do is ask Shaoming, and she could find out everything about his ex-girlfriend. So the boys at JZ Normal University dare not offend her; if she says something bad about them, they might as well forget about dating any Sister. Even more extreme, if a boy wants to know about a girl, he can do so for a fee, which isn't cheap. Wang Lin only pursued Lin Miaomiao because he got information about her from Shaoming.
False information can be deadly.
As for Wang Lin, I learned a bit from Shaoming that this guy is a typical official's child! Wang Lin's father is the head of the Industrial and Commercial Bureau, and his mother (not an insult) works in the Quality Supervision Bureau. So Zhong Shangqi has run into trouble; Wang Lin is someone he cannot afford to offend. However, I still don't understand why Wang Lin didn't dare to escalate things earlier since Shaoming is his 'aunt'!
But since Shaoming didn't hold it against him, what more could I say?
At Wang Lin's insistence, I was dragged into his private room with Shaoming. The difference between private rooms is quite significant. I just checked mine; it wasn't much different from an ordinary room, while Wang Lin's was like a palace.
Wang Lin's 'palace' not only had standard kV equipment but also a cocktail bar and a bartender. There was even a hot waitress by the karaoke station dedicated to taking song requests.
Money really can make things happen; this private room probably costs over 50,000 for one night.
However, this isn't Wang Lin's territory; it's a group of rich second-generation kids and official second-generation kids making noise under the pretense of celebrating someone's birthday whom nobody knows. But those who could get in here are not simple characters either; once inside, their true nature was revealed. The boys either hugged Sisters or gathered together to roll dice. From what I heard, the minimum bet for their dice games was one yuan (the rules on the gambling table state that one hundred equals ten cents and one yuan equals one thousand), with no upper limit.
That said, these guys really aren't skilled at gambling; if it were me using Spiritual Sight, I'd win without breaking a sweat!
Shaoming sat by the cocktail bar sipping on a cocktail; most of the boys knew who she was and didn't dare approach her. If Shaoming said something bad about any girl in her circle, those boys wouldn't need to practice their flirting skills anymore.
As for me, I felt completely out of place here; I could only sit on the couch and watch them.
This can't go on; I'm not here for fun—I'm here to investigate! I stood up, said something to Shaoming, and prepared to leave.
Just as I was about to leave, someone stopped me.
"What's up, buddy? You leaving?" The person leaned against the door, blocking my way.
"I'm just going out for some fresh air; it's too stuffy in here," I replied with a smile.
"You look unfamiliar. Where are you from?"
"Just a student, still a student."
"Oh," the person nodded slightly, probably thinking I was some kind of rich second-generation. "You can't just leave like that. Here's the deal: according to our rules, you either get on stage and sing a song or you owe us three drinks."
"I'm just going to the restroom."
"Is it too lively for you? Are you scared? If you're scared, then forget it."
"Let's skip the singing. How about I show you a magic trick instead?"
"A magic trick?" the person asked, puzzled. "You can perform magic?"
"It's not magic; it's a trick called 'The Great Disappearing Act!'" With that, I heard the sound of the door closing as I vanished from the spot.
Crazy! You want me to sing? Are you out of your mind? People get paid to sing; for me, singing could be life-threatening!
I found a waiter and located the restroom. After having a bit to drink earlier, I really needed to go. This place was different; even the waitstaff delivering drinks were all beautiful women.
While washing my hands outside the restroom, someone walked out and stood next to me at the sink. Just as I was about to leave, that person looked up and glanced at me.
"Brother Yin? Is that you?" the person called from behind me.
I turned around and saw someone who recognized me. I couldn't help but smile; this was someone I actually knew—my only client from a side job!
Zhao Boss, the one I helped exorcise ghosts for at his home before. He was in a similar line of work as Zhong Shao's father, dealing in decoration business.
"Brother Yin, I didn't expect to see you here," Zhao Boss seemed quite excited. "I was just thinking about how to get in touch with you. Look at this, isn't it a coincidence? Come on, Brother Yin, let me introduce you to a few people."
Zhao Boss washed his hands and pulled me towards his private room.
Since I had no other plans, I thought, why not? Besides, someone like Zhao Boss would definitely not have a place like Wang Lin's.
The private rooms at Drunken Hero were arranged such that the deeper you went, the larger and more luxurious they became. Zhao Boss led me straight to the innermost room.
If Wang Lin's room was a palace, then Zhao Boss's room was a plaza!
In the center was a dance floor where several Sisters were seated. If anyone wanted to sing or dance, they just had to step onto the dance floor, and the Sisters would come to serve them. There was also a wine cabinet and a bar counter here, but it was significantly larger than Wang Lin's. The wine rack was quite elaborate; it was made from a wooden boat, and there was a Bartender Beauty standing straight, waiting for customers to order cocktails.
In another corner, there were two tables: one for gambling and one for Mahjong. Most of the people were enjoying themselves at these two tables.
Before I even stepped into the room, I was already stunned by the noise coming from inside; it sounded like someone was howling like a pig being slaughtered.
"Friends walk together for life; those days are gone; just one sentence..."
Wow, just from the sound, I could tell this person wasn't slim.
Sure enough, as soon as I pushed open the door, there was a fat bald man holding a microphone in the center of the dance floor belting out tunes. His singing had more impact than mine.
The fat guy sang while leering at the Sisters on the dance floor. As soon as we entered, he started shouting loudly.
"Old Zhao! Are you hiding from drinking? That's not right! Come on, go pour yourself a few drinks!"
"That's not urgent, Old Xu! Let me introduce you to a Master."
"Master?" The fat guy turned down the volume of the speaker. "What Master?"
"Remember when my house was haunted last time? I got lucky and met someone even more powerful than a half-immortal Master!"
"What kind of Master?" The fat guy asked with great interest. "What can he do?"
"Brother Yin, are you going to show us what you've got?" Zhao Boss said to me apologetically.
"Sure." I extended my hand to the Fatty and said, "Could you lend me some money for a bet?"
I pointed at the gambling table.
The Fatty looked at me in confusion, then glanced at Zhao Boss. After hesitating for a moment, he didn't move.
Seeing that the Fatty wasn't responding, Zhao Boss quickly stepped in to smooth things over: "Hey, Old Xu, you don't have any cash on you, do you? Just remember, you might regret it!"
After that, Zhao Boss swiped his card and handed me a few chips: "Brother Yin, is this enough for you?"
"That's not the issue; how big is the bet?"
"Five thousand per chip," Zhao Boss replied while holding up a chip. "You can start with three chips."
"What do you usually play?"
"We like to play a couple of rounds of Show Hand or Dice."
I had no idea how to play Show Hand, so I thought I'd stick with Dice. It's simple enough; I should be able to manage that.
"Dice means guessing high or low, right?"
"Pretty much."
"Let's go!"
The gambling table was large enough to accommodate many people. Zhao Boss dragged both Fatty Xu and me along. I walked slowly into the crowd of dice players.
There were plenty of chips on the table, and the minimum bet was three chips. There were wins and losses all around. Everyone was a boss here, just enjoying a few rounds without any cheating.
But I was planning to cheat!
I secretly formed a hand gesture and activated "Spiritual Sight"!
Through the "Dice Cup," I saw that the three dice inside showed 'three, four, and two!'
I threw down three "Chips": "!"
The "Dealer" didn't notice, as there were too many people placing bets. Once the cup was opened, the three "Chips" instantly turned into six.
This money is really easy to earn!
I didn't even take the "Chips" back; I just left them on the table. As the "Dealer" started another round, I used "Spiritual Sight" again and moved the "Chips" to the 'Big' position.
"Once you buy it, it's yours!" said the sitting "Boss," mimicking the calls of previous gambling houses.
One by one, the "Bosses" placed their bets.
"Open! Big!"
The six chips turned into twelve.
A joyful smile appeared on Zhao's face, while Fatty Xu's expression was filled with disbelief.
