"Captain, we've arrived." I was pushed awake from my meditation, and as I slowly came to, the vibrations began to subside.
I have to admit, the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs does have some capabilities. At least this time, instead of having to buy our own tickets for the high-speed train, we were fortunate enough to be transported directly to our destination by a helicopter.
The main purpose of this operation is actually a rescue mission, aimed at saving Lin Zhao and Li Su, who had already descended into the tomb. Of course, it would be even better if we could also address the root problem of Blood Cultivation while we're at it.
Uncle Xing assigned me a team consisting of five members: myself, Zhang Fan, an Earthwalker who had previously worked with us on the Zombie Ba mission, a Gunsmith, and a communications officer.
The Gunsmith is named Lin Ming; he is proficient in various firearms and was once an excellent member of Special Forces, skilled in tracking and counter-tracking.
The communications officer is named Li Ping; he is an esper with telepathic abilities, capable of communicating with others over distances.
From the lineup, this is a standard rescue team, with Zhang Fan representing the "brute force."
The reason Lin Zhao and the others dared to enter the tomb was largely due to Li Su's presence. Although Li Su is a cultivator from Laoshan, he possesses extensive knowledge about various tombs. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, those who walk by the river often get their shoes wet. The tomb they entered this time is no ordinary one!
However, what piques my curiosity is whose tomb this actually is.
After disembarking from the helicopter, I was taken aback by the scene before me.
It wasn't the eerie and terrifying sight I had imagined. I had thought we would be in a desolate mountainous area with a very hidden tomb deep within the grass or dense forest. But looking at it now, I clearly overestimated things.
There were no desolate mountains or dense forests—only countless large and uneven craters.
These craters must have been created by artillery shells. Right, previously there were soldiers attacked by Blood Cultivation; they were blown up during training while dealing with Ancient Corpses. So this place is actually a training ground?
If it were just that, I wouldn't be too surprised. But can someone explain why there are so many tents stationed here at a training ground that has blown up Ancient Corpses?
In the center of this training ground, there was a large area filled with tightly packed tents, resembling a refugee camp. All the tents were white, and when the wind blew, they made a whistling sound.
Among the tents, people rushed back and forth, all wearing expressions of urgency and thirst. The tents were arranged in a circular formation around a central open space, which was also the area with the most people at that moment.
What was going on? Had this place been turned into an exhibition? So many people? Were they here to visit? This was quite ridiculous.
A person in uniform approached us, seemingly there to welcome us.
“Yin Zheng'an, Mr. Yin, is it?” he extended his hand towards me.
I shook his hand symbolically and asked, “Who are you?”
“Oh, I am the person in charge here, Jiang Shao,” he replied.
I glanced at Jiang Shao's shoulder insignia; he had two stars and was actually a Major.
“Hello, Major Jiang. I am Yin Zheng'an, and these are my team members.” I introduced my team to Jiang Shao. “By the way, Major Jiang, what’s the situation with these tents? Why are so many people gathered here?”
Jiang Shao's expression turned somewhat awkward. “Well, these are all experts in archaeology. They are currently excavating a large ancient tomb.”
More archaeologists? Why do these people always want to dig whenever they see a tomb? And why do they come in groups? My biggest fear is that these individuals don’t really understand what they’re doing but dig recklessly. If they want to dig, at least they should first figure out if it's something they can handle!
What if they really unearthed a zombie? Would they still be smiling then? Would they just blow it up on-site?
“Is there any way to disperse them? This is more than just a problem,” I pondered for a moment before asking.
“That’s quite difficult,” Jiang Shao replied with difficulty. “You see, these experts were sent down from above, and due to the strange incidents that occurred earlier, we haven’t reported it up yet. Moreover, among these experts are some authoritative figures, so getting them to leave isn’t an easy task.”
It seems that none of them dared to report the matter regarding Blood Cultivation to the higher-ups, which makes things difficult. Moreover, among these experts, there are authorities? It is indeed challenging to deal with those who regard knowledge as extremely important.
"Jiang Shao, I’m stating this clearly; it’s not alarmism. I don’t have any solid information about this incident yet, so I cannot guarantee that there won’t be any unexpected issues. If something really goes wrong, I won’t take responsibility."
Heh, if a group of Zongzi comes out and bites someone, will it be my responsibility in the end? I won't take the blame for that.
"I’ll consult with the higher-ups," Jiang Shao weighed the situation and said, "How about this, Mr. Yin, you all take a break for now?"
"No need, I need to know what the situation is down there first."
Lin Zhao and the others lost contact in the Tomb just yesterday. As long as our rescue is swift enough, the chances of Lin Zhao and his team surviving are quite high.
What I'm afraid of is that Lin Zhao and his team have already fallen victim to Blood Cultivation. However, with Li Su around, it shouldn't be that easy for them to get caught.
The entrance to the Tomb is located at the very center of all the tents. To avoid drawing attention, I also put on a white robe similar to those worn by the archaeologists, resembling what doctors wear.
"Li Ping, Earthwalker, you two come with me to check out the Tomb entrance. Lin Ming, Zhang Fan, you two take a break for now."
Lin Ming and Zhang Fan aren’t able to help much at the moment, so I let them rest first; I headed towards the Tomb entrance with Earthwalker and Li Ping.
Earthwalker is a Dirt Scholar and is more knowledgeable than some archaeologist experts in certain aspects. Li Ping can sense Lin Zhao's movements, which is why I decided to bring them along.
The further we walked in, the denser the tents became. Many of these tents contained very professional equipment, and people covered in dirt were coming and going frequently.
When we reached the central open area, I realized that I had been overly optimistic before.
The entrance to the Tomb had already been excavated, revealing a sloped path that led directly to the main door of the Tomb. Further down, one could soon see the entrance to the Tomb itself.
Not only that, but because many people were involved, the entire tomb's roof was nearly lifted off, and I could clearly see the black soil beneath.
Why can tomb raiders use a Luoyang Shovel to determine if there is a tomb below? It's simply because the color of the soil used to seal the tomb is different.
Generally, the sealing soil is a mixture of various types of soil, but this ancient tomb is different; its sealing soil is completely black, as dark as ink!
I could already faintly see the bricks and stones of the ancient tomb. They couldn't dig any further; if they really uncovered it and the Evil Energy inside escaped, the consequences would be unimaginable!
"Earthwalker, go check that tomb entrance and see if you can determine anything. Li Ping, try to contact Lin Zhao and the others."
"Okay," Earthwalker and Li Ping replied.
I wasn't clear about the age or structure of these tombs, but I could identify one thing: Evil Energy!
I began to circle around the entire excavated area, hoping that no Evil Energy had leaked out yet.
To be honest, I didn't have a shred of confidence, especially regarding things underground. However, one thing I was certain of was that this tomb was definitely not an ordinary person's tomb!
The area of the ancient tomb was vast, almost as large as two football fields. In ancient times, it was rare to find a master with such a massive tomb; after all, even Qin Shi Huang's tomb was only about five football fields in size.
But how could someone with such a large tomb not have several accompanying burial sites? From what I could see now, one Burial Tomb had already been unearthed.
As I walked towards that Burial Tomb, my Spiritual Sight had long been quietly activated, but I didn't see anything related to Evil Energy there.
Is this normal? On the contrary, it is very abnormal! After all, this is still an ancient tomb! How could there be no trace of Evil Energy present? Normally, when excavating an ancient tomb, there is Evil Energy; it's just that ordinary people can't see it.
But with not a trace of Evil Energy present, what does that mean?
There are only two possibilities: either it has already been purified, or all the Evil Energy has been gathered in one place!
The latter possibility seems more likely.
When I arrived at the Burial Tomb, I realized that this might not be a simple Burial Tomb. The Burial Tomb is not large, about the size of a basketball court, but the things inside are incredibly complex.
Typically, a Burial Tomb contains either the deceased or accompanying objects, but this Burial Tomb has nothing at all—only a finely constructed structure resembling an altar, and on the altar, there are many intricate patterns.
Others may not recognize these patterns, but I am very familiar with them! These patterns are identical to the strokes on the original talisman, which means this is actually a Talisman inscription!
However, while I can tell that this is a rune, I completely cannot comprehend the meaning represented by these patterns.
An altar? Runes?
Could it be that its purpose is to suppress something?
Just as I was pondering this, a somewhat familiar voice joyfully rang in my ear.
"Yin Zheng'an? What are you doing here?"
