Summoning Technique, a Spell reliant on luck and character, has always been a troublesome Spell in my hands.
Since my birth, I haven't used the summoning technique many times, but let's take a look at the Deity I've summoned: White Dragon, Mao Ri Xing Jun, Lu Dongbin. Those are at least somewhat related to the court, but today? Living Buddha Jikong???
In my understanding of Ji Gong, he is almost equivalent to Lu Zhishen—the only difference being that he can't pull out willows. He excels in drinking and eating meat as a Spell, but if you really want him to subdue demons and monsters, good luck with that!
However, the Summoning Technique is indeed troublesome; it cannot be returned! Even if I summon just a Howling Hound, there's nothing I can do about it.
But who has stronger combat ability, Howling Hound or Ji Gong? It's probably the Howling Hound, after all, it's a good Good Boy that even dares to bite Sun Wukong!
"This is ridiculous," I said, holding my forehead in despair. "Master, just tell me what you can do."
"I..." Ji Gong hesitated for a moment. "I can cheer you on."
"Do I need you for that?"
I hate it when people offer support late; humans aren't machines. Can one really rely solely on encouragement? Even lard tastes better when fried with rice.
"Forget it, Elder, you might as well stay out of it," I said helplessly. Since I've summoned him, there's no sending him back anytime soon. Fortunately, he is in the body of Gentle Breeze. If it were my own body, I'd be finished.
"Three Purities Edict, Daoist Law of Correct Origin." I formed hand seals, and three Flying Swords circled around me. "Azure Lotus Flame!"
The Flying Swords ignited with Azure flames, and the high temperature made the surrounding air shimmer.
"Go! Go! Go!" I flicked my fingers and gently sent the Flying Swords flying out.
The Flying Swords did not directly attack Ghost Fangzi, but instead used their tips to force Ghost Fangzi to stay in place. Because of the enhancement from the Azure Lotus Flame, Ghost Fangzi was somewhat cautious and did not strike easily.
“Universal Azure Lotus!!!” A palm rose slowly in my hand, holding a lotus flower the size of a hand.
I could still easily use the Universal Azure Lotus.
I drew a Seal in the air, sketching out Yang Fire in the void! With a surge of my mana, a strand of Yang Fire floated onto the heart of the Azure Flower lotus, drifting within it.
“Go!” I raised my hand, and the lotus flower left my grasp, heading towards Ghost Fangzi.
Ghost Fangzi shook his sleeve, and a cloud of black mist tinged with Blood Qi erupted from around him. The black mist enveloped Ghost Fangzi, forming a giant black egg-like presence.
“Boom!!!”
The Azure Lotus Flame, carrying a strand of Yang Fire, exploded directly in front of the giant egg, and the shockwave split the egg in half, revealing Ghost Fangzi inside.
At that moment, a strand of Yang Fire was about to take effect, drilling straight towards Ghost Fangzi.
“Hmph, Yang Fire? If I were afraid of such things, I wouldn't have survived until now,” blood surged on Ghost Fangzi's face: “Child, let me show you how top-tier cultivators fight!!!”
“Whoosh!” A sound of breaking air echoed through the atmosphere. By the time I reacted, Ghost Fangzi had already appeared right in front of me.
Ghost Fangzi lifted his foot; the movement seemed very slow, yet it gave me an overwhelming sense that I could never escape.
“Bang!!!”
I was struck by an immense force and fell from mid-air, crashing into the ground and creating a large pit.
“Cough cough.” I coughed up blood.
If it weren't for the Azure Flower Robe absorbing most of the impact, I might have been killed from the fall.
"Friend," Ji Gong called out while attached to Gentle Breeze.
"Ugh," the pain in my back felt like being scorched by fire, but I could tell that no bones were broken. However, where I was kicked by Ghost Fangzi, I felt the Blood Qi churning inside me, as if it wanted to break free from my body, which was incredibly uncomfortable.
"Friend," Ji Gong descended from the air. "Are you alright?"
Alright? Where do you see that I'm alright?
I lifted my shirt and saw a dark footprint clearly imprinted on my chest.
"It's Voodoo," Ji Gong recognized immediately.
"Voodoo? What is that?" I had never heard of it before.
"In ancient times, demons referred to themselves as witches," Ji Gong explained while drawing a Swastika on his palm. "The term 'demon' was given to them by humans. During the Ancient Court Era, they preferred to call themselves witches. Voodoo is the poison that the demon clan used against their enemies at that time."
"You also know that demons are quite resilient and have a very fast regeneration rate, so many attacks against them end up being ineffective."
"Even poison, ordinary toxins don't have much effect on demons."
"But blood-targeting poisons are something demons cannot resist, so Voodoo primarily targets blood-related toxins."
"Can this poison be cured?"
"I believe everything has its weaknesses, and this poison is no exception," Ji Gong smiled. "In the past, Voodoo was difficult to resolve because no one understood how it was formed. Later, a monk discovered that Voodoo and Buddha Power are opposites; in other words, Buddha Power can dispel Voodoo."
“Buddha Power breaks Voodoo? What is the principle behind this?”
“The essence of Voodoo lies in the Evil Energy within Blood Qi, which affects the bloodline, causing it to cease flowing. Just think about it, whether it's a demon or a human, if all the blood in their body stops moving, how can that be good?”
“However, the benefit of Buddha Power is its ability to dissolve Resentment. Blood Qi can be resolved through Buddhist teachings, let alone mere Voodoo. Besides, the Voodoo affecting you isn't particularly difficult to resolve.”
Ji Gong opened his palm, and a brilliant golden Swastika slowly rotated in his hand.
“Come on, I'll first resolve yours, then you can take a break and think about how to deal with Ghost Fangzi.”
“But Master, can I really take a break?” I said helplessly.
Ghost Fangzi was playfully watching me from above; how could I possibly rest?
“I, a humble monk, will block for my friend. However, I can only hold it off for a while; the rest is up to you.”
Ji Gong pressed the Swastika onto the dark footprint and reached out to remove my Azure Flower Robe.
“Hey, Master, you…”
“Let me borrow this. Dry Earth Branch Formation. I didn't expect there to be such an ancient formation on your Daoist Robe. Using this formation, I believe I can help you a bit.”
Ji Gong raised his hand and threw the Azure Flower Robe into the air. The dots on the Daoist Robe began to slowly rise, reflecting in mid-air.
Dry Earth Branch Formation!
This was an ancient formation that had been attached to my Daoist Robe. Ever since I subdued Zombie Ba, I hadn't been able to activate it again. I never expected that Ji Gong could awaken this ancient formation with just a wave of his hand.
"Amitabha, the Sea of Suffering is boundless; turning back is the shore," Ji Gong turned his head and looked at Ghost Fangzi.
"Hehe, it's the same old tired words from the monk again. I was more familiar with these things than you back in the day."
Ji Gong smiled, "I don't recite scriptures."
"I only ferry people," Ji Gong said, putting his hands together.
The Dry Earth Formation suddenly began to radiate light, forming an enormous golden bell.
"Ding! Ding! Ding!"
The Golden Bell shook, producing three heavy metallic sounds.
Upon hearing the sound, Ghost Fangzi's expression changed instantly. He hurriedly turned around and rushed towards the black mist of ghosts.
However, Ghost Fangzi's movement was ultimately not as fast as the sound.
The first ringing of the Golden Bell shattered all the Evil Bodies within the black mist, rescuing Mingyue, who was already feeling weak.
The second ringing of the Golden Bell dispersed the pitch-black mist that was originally nurturing more Evil Bodies, which were forcefully scattered!
"What is this?" As the black mist dissipated, I stared blankly at the objects within it.
It was a chair—one filled with ferocity, pain, and malevolence.
On the chair were faces; what I had described earlier were expressions displayed on those faces. Every wrinkle and detail appeared as real as could be.
On the chair lay a body that had been reduced to mere bones, covered in green glowing dots.
"Every light point represents a suffering soul," Ji Gong explained. "All the Evil Bodies you have slain come from these barely visible light points."
"And those faces must be manifestations of the suffering souls," I thought blankly.
I always believed that Evil Cultivators were merely practitioners who used Evil Techniques to cultivate, causing harm in their vicinity. But looking at those bones, how many Vengeful Spirits must there be?
"When Vengeful Spirits form Evil Bodies and you disperse them, the Vengeful Spirits will transform into Resentment. This Resentment is absorbed by that chair and then transmitted to the bones. When the bones absorb enough Resentment, that is when they become a Corpse Demon!" Ji Gong said slowly.
"Caw Caw, I am Black Wuchang. I didn't expect you, monk, to know so much," Ghost Fangzi remarked, looking at Ji Gong. Although Ji Gong was currently borrowing Gentle Breeze's body, Ghost Fangzi's keen eyes could tell that this was no longer the original Gentle Breeze.
"Sigh," Ji Gong sighed. "There is always much suffering in the world; many people are enduring hardships. I have understood the meaning of this suffering and willingly returned to my Buddha's side. Now it is your turn to comprehend this suffering."
The third sound of the Golden Bell rang out, transforming into a visible sound wave that struck the bones on the chair.
"Boom!!!" The bones were shattered into a layer of white ash, scattering everywhere.
"Amitabha Buddha," Ji Gong shouted a Buddhist chant. "Friend, the time has come; I must leave."
