Li Longji let out a long sigh and leaned dejectedly against the Dragon Couch, closing his eyes as if he had made a decision. Seeing this, I felt a surge of joy in my heart, knowing he had agreed to my proposal. I stood up, walked behind him, gently massaging his temples, and softly said, "Your Majesty, rest assured, I will do my utmost to help you quell this rebellion and restore peace to the Tang Dynasty."
Li Longji opened his eyes, looking at me with trust and gratitude. He took my hand and said firmly, "Good, I believe in you. Let’s proceed as you suggest! I will issue an edict to appoint you as the Pacification Consort, giving you full authority to negotiate with An Lushan." I knelt to receive the edict, but in my heart, I already had my own plans.
I stood up from the ground, respectfully accepting the imperial decree with a confident smile on my face. "I obey your command and will not disappoint Your Majesty." Li Longji wearily rubbed his temples, his voice filled with concern: "My beloved consort, I entrust everything to you. I believe you can quell this rebellion."
I nodded gently and walked to his side, draping a robe over him while softly saying, "Your Majesty can rest assured; I will negotiate with An Lushan as soon as possible to persuade him to withdraw his troops."
"Mm." Li Longji lightly patted my hand, his eyes full of trust. As I exited the main hall, Xie Aman immediately approached me with worry. "Your Highness, what did His Majesty say?"
I handed her the imperial edict and replied calmly, "His Majesty has agreed to negotiate and appointed me as the Pacification Consort with full authority over this matter."
"That's wonderful!" Xie Aman exclaimed with a joyful smile but quickly turned anxious again. "But Your Highness, that scoundrel An Lushan is ambitious; will he really agree to negotiate?"
I paused and turned my gaze toward the palace gates, my expression deepening. "He will. Whatever he desires, I will give him. I refuse to believe he won't be tempted."
Xie Aman nodded in understanding but did not press further. Upon returning to my quarters, I immediately summoned my trusted aides to secretly discuss how to lure An Lushan into a trap. "An Lushan is greedy and lustful; we can take advantage of this..." I laid out my plan calmly, confidence gleaming in my eyes.
A few days later, a letter for negotiation written by me was delivered into An Lushan's hands. In the letter, I earnestly expressed the court's desire for peace talks and stated that I was willing to meet all of An Lushan's conditions as long as he would withdraw his troops and spare the common people from suffering.
Upon receiving my letter for negotiation, An Lushan was indeed tempted. He had long coveted my beauty; now that I had taken the initiative to propose talks and hinted at fulfilling all his demands, he became even more arrogant, believing that I had truly developed feelings for him. Ignoring the counsel of his advisors, he insisted on personally traveling to Chang'an for negotiations.
An Lushan led a small group of loyal soldiers into Chang'an city in grand fashion. To show sincerity, I did not bring any soldiers but went alone to welcome him at the city gates.
"It has been many years; Your Highness looks even more radiant than before," An Lushan said as he gazed at me with greedy eyes.
I smiled slightly and replied gently, "General is too kind; please enter the city. I have prepared a banquet in your honor at the palace."
Hearing this, An Lushan laughed heartily and followed me into the city.
That night, I hosted a banquet in the palace to entertain An Lushan. During the feast, I frequently toasted him, showering him with sweet words. An Lushan was already captivated by my beauty and gentleness, completely at my beck and call.
After a few rounds of drinks, I saw that the time was right and excused myself to change clothes, leaving the banquet.
Shortly after I left, skilled ambushers hidden in the palace rushed out, surrounding the unsuspecting An Lushan.
"What... what do you want?!" An Lushan shouted in panic, half-awake from the alcohol.
"By the order of Consort Gui, we are here to capture the traitor!" the leading guard shouted loudly.
Only then did An Lushan realize he had fallen into my trap; his face turned ashen as he collapsed helplessly to the ground.
Once news of An Lushan's capture spread, the rebel forces were thrown into disarray, leaderless and demoralized. Seizing the opportunity, I allied with troops stationed across various regions to launch a fierce attack against the rebels.
Ultimately, with the combined efforts of the imperial army and local militias, An Lushan's rebellion was completely quelled, restoring peace and prosperity to the Tang Dynasty.
Standing on the city tower, I looked down at the cheering citizens below, filled with a sense of comfort and pride.
