The night was eerily silent. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, creating a soft whispering sound. A shooting star streaked across the sky, leaving behind a brilliant trail as it cut through the darkness.
On such a quiet night, a shadow slipped through a stone wall. Like a night owl, it moved without making a sound, quickly disappearing on the other side of the wall.
The shadow entered a room and paused beside an Iron Crane. It gently turned the head of the Red-Crowned Crane, causing the bookshelf to slide open.
This person was Lingfeng.
Although Lingfeng was not in a hurry to practice, he wanted to check what materials were available for his staff techniques.
During his last visit, Lingfeng had only glanced at the manuals here. Although he had taken two books, he still did not dare to practice the Falling Leaf Technique lightly. Now that he had a Medium Quality Connecting Rod, he should take the time to practice properly.
In one corner of the room were some weapons, but they were all dull and lackluster. Clearly, there were no magical artifacts here; Lame Li seemed uninterested in such things.
Approaching the martial arts bookshelf, Lingfeng carefully examined the titles of each manual. However, there were very few manuals related to staff techniques, and some were merely broken books. The Demon Suppression Sect primarily focused on swords; aside from some palm techniques, fist techniques, and sword techniques, there were only methods for channeling energy.
Lingfeng felt somewhat disappointed and was about to check the cultivation bookshelf instead when he unexpectedly noticed a manual that had fallen on the ground between the martial arts and cultivation bookshelves.
"What is this?" Lingfeng wondered curiously as he picked up the book from the floor.
Perhaps due to years of neglect, this manual was covered in dust. Lingfeng gently blew on it, sending dust swirling into the air.
Stepping back a few paces, he examined it closely and couldn't help but show a joyful expression on his face.
The cover boldly displayed four large characters: "Suspended Staff Technique."
Without time to flip through it, Lingfeng hurriedly placed the manual into his Treasure Bag and then returned to the Main Hall.
Azure Vine was meditating in the room. By the time Lingfeng stepped out, Azure Vine had already entered a trance. Moreover, Azure Vine would wake up once during each meditation session in the late night. Therefore, as long as Lingfeng moved quietly, he would not draw Azure Vine's attention.
Back in his room, Lingfeng took out a Spirit Talisman and crawled into bed. He softly recited a spell, and the Spirit Talisman emitted a faint glow.
"Ha ha, it's done!" Lingfeng eagerly pulled out the book "Suspended Staff Technique" and began to flip through it.
The "Suspended Staff Technique" was only a few dozen pages long, with just twelve chapters. However, the more Lingfeng read, the more he felt that this staff technique was incredibly profound.
Although the text of this technique was minimal, the moves were unpredictable, clearly blending martial arts with cultivation.
"No wonder it was placed between the Martial Arts Cabinet and the Cultivation Cabinet!" Lingfeng couldn't help but marvel. Although he had little understanding of staff techniques, the attacks, defenses, and maneuvers described in this manual were simply astonishing.
The "Suspended Staff Technique" was a martial art that combined both rigidity and flexibility. Each move was incredibly powerful yet contained an element of softness. One of the techniques involved using the enemy's attacking force to counterattack them. This was a classic example of overcoming strength with softness and returning force with force.
The "Suspended Staff Technique" was divided into twelve chapters, each containing a unique move. However, if these twelve moves could be combined into one, their power would be formidable.
"My Connecting Rod can be both large and small; it can defend well while also catching opponents off guard. If I can master it well, it will perfectly embody softness within strength. Practicing this 'Suspended Staff Technique' would be truly beneficial!" The more Lingfeng thought about it, the more excited he became. However, finding a suitable time and place to practice this staff technique posed a challenge.
Aside from training his body, Lingfeng also had to learn spells from Azure Vine. The only truly free time he had was at night. But with the Black Wind howling at night, how could he practice comfortably?
After much contemplation, Lingfeng decided that there was only one place suitable for his training: the treasure vault... secret chamber left for him by Lame Li.
At the first crow of the rooster in the morning, before dawn broke, Lingfeng rolled out of bed, quickly dressed, and stealthily left his room.
After a night of brewing thoughts, the air felt fresh. A hint of coolness in the air invigorated Lingfeng immensely. Although the mountain path between the Main Hall and Auxiliary Temple was rugged, Lingfeng felt no strain at all. Instead, his body felt light as a swallow and agile like a nimble monkey; before long, he had arrived at the Auxiliary Temple.
As usual, Lingfeng quietly slipped into the group of training disciples and began his physical strengthening exercises.
These disciples were slightly more advanced in cultivation than Lingfeng and had been training for much longer. Therefore, after only a short time of exercise, Lingfeng gradually began to fall behind.
Most of the disciples here have already learned Adapt to the Qi Field, so compared to them, Lingfeng's cultivation is still quite lacking.
However, it seems that these disciples can only cultivate the Breath Technique up to Adapt to the Qi Field, and very few have managed to master Flowing with Water and Flowing with the Sands.
The reason is simple: the cultivation method of the Breath Technique is too demanding. Moreover, once a person reaches a certain level of cultivation, due to the increase in their spiritual power, they often find that they no longer need a technique like Breath Technique. Therefore, most people choose to only cultivate Adapt to the Qi Field and give up on the latter two chapters.
However, Lingfeng disagrees. He believes that no cultivation method is created without purpose; each technique must have its own uses.
For example, Lingfeng inadvertently discovered that Adapt to the Qi Field can be used in a massive Tornado, significantly enhancing his True Qi requirements—something that previous cultivators had not anticipated.
As for Flowing with Water and Flowing with the Sands, no one can be sure what mysteries they hold. However, Lingfeng believes that as long as he can master these two cultivation methods, there will definitely be practical applications for them.
At noon, Lingfeng returned to the Main Hall with his exhausted body. To his surprise, Azure Vine was still meditating in the courtyard. Azure Vine's eyes were tightly closed, seemingly still in a state of meditation. Lingfeng did not want to disturb him and planned to walk around.
Unexpectedly, Azure Vine suddenly spoke up, "You brat, stop right there!"
Lingfeng was startled and turned back to look at Azure Vine but still saw him with his eyes closed. He couldn't help but shake his head and mutter, "Impressive; even while meditating, he can talk in his sleep!"
He then lifted his leg to enter the house, but just as he was about to step over the threshold, he suddenly felt a fierce aura coming from behind him. Startled, Lingfeng had no time to turn around; he quickly jumped and grabbed onto the top of the door frame, managing to keep his balance. In that instant, a shadow brushed past Lingfeng's clothes and crashed into a Porcelain Bottle in the hall. However, Lingfeng did not hear the sound of the Porcelain Bottle breaking; instead, a black hole appeared on what was originally a patterned Porcelain Bottle.
Looking back at Azure Vine, he found him smiling at Lingfeng.
Lingfeng wiped away a cold sweat and said in shock, "Brother, if it weren't for my exceptional mastery of Adapt to the Qi Field, I might have been pierced through by you! But why didn't I feel you get up?" Lingfeng found it strange; given his level of mastery in Adapt to the Qi Field, he shouldn't have been unable to sense Azure Vine's movements.
Azure Vine shrugged and replied, "What level of cultivation do you have? What level do I have? With your skills, you think you can perceive my presence? Dream on."
Lingfeng secretly clicked his tongue; it seemed that his cultivation was indeed too low.
"Hey, let me ask you, what have you been doing this morning?" Azure Vine suddenly shifted the topic and directly asked Lingfeng about the question he was afraid to answer.
Lingfeng was slightly taken aback, but soon his panicked expression calmed down. With a steady face, he said, "Exercising, of course! It's for my health; I went to work out!"
Azure Vine sneered, "I know you went to exercise, but why were you training with those disciples from the Auxiliary Temple? Do you realize that their external skills are not what you practice in Spell?"
"What’s wrong with that?" Lingfeng pouted, not understanding why he couldn't train with them. "I think their training methods are great! Besides, haven't you always reminded me to pay attention to physical exercise?"
"Oh dear!" Azure Vine covered his face in frustration. He felt that communicating with Lingfeng was becoming increasingly difficult. "My idea of exercise is just to keep your body in good shape and avoid being lethargic or weak. As long as you can do some simple physical activities, isn't that enough? Why waste time on intense physical training?"
"What?" Lingfeng exclaimed. "So your idea of exercise is just that? Why didn't you say so earlier? I've wasted so much time!"
"Tch!" Azure Vine glared at Lingfeng in exasperation and then sat down on a nearby stone bench, picking at his toes. "I thought you were smart, but it turns out you're this foolish?"
"What? I'm foolish?" Lingfeng refused to back down and pulled out the Connecting Rod, pointing it at Azure Vine's nose. "Alright then, let's have a match and see who's the fool!"
It was a match, but both brothers understood that their earlier conversation was just banter. What Azure Vine really wanted was to practice with Lingfeng; in his view, the priority now was to improve Lingfeng's cultivation.
Without waiting for Azure Vine to draw his sword, Lingfeng picked up the Connecting Rod and swept it horizontally at Azure Vine's feet. With a whooshing sound, a shallow trench appeared beneath Azure Vine's feet. However, Azure Vine easily jumped aside to avoid it.
Azure Vine stepped back a few paces and chuckled, "Kid, that move is too ordinary. Although it has enough force, it wouldn't even scratch me!" With that, Azure Vine dramatically drew his sword, holding it in his right hand while extending two fingers from his left hand. He declared loudly, "Watch my sword!"
