At this moment, the moon was high, and the Flower Room was brightly lit.
Lingfeng stepped out of the Flower Room and leaped onto a rooftop. The flame in his hand danced like a ghost in the wind, yet it did not extinguish. In the vast darkness, Lingfeng seemed like a king, with the entire White Jade Escort Agency beneath his gaze.
This matter arising from the Phoenix Pearl should have been resolved long ago, and the only way to do so was to eliminate all enemies. Otherwise, he would be destroyed by them.
Lingfeng no longer hesitated; he had not expected to be able to completely annihilate the Hundred Venom Bee so easily. He also did not expect that after being here for so long, he had not been discovered. A sense of joy welled up in his heart as he quietly recited a spell, raising his right hand high like a victor.
In the night, that flame appeared to be a mysterious spirit. After fluttering in the wind for a while, it suddenly shot straight up and exploded like fireworks.
Lingfeng smiled and jumped over the wall, disappearing into the night.
Immediately following that explosion, countless fireballs descended like spheres of destruction, raining down upon the White Jade Escort Agency. Moments later, the courtyard of the White Jade Escort Agency was ablaze with firelight. The sounds of gongs and shouts echoed continuously.
Lingfeng had set the fire and felt quite pleased. Although he wanted to see the scene of the White Jade Escort Agency burning, he knew that such flames could not harm Ziren at all. Lingfeng's purpose was merely to make Ziren retreat in fear, to let him know that there was someone elusive like Lingfeng around. This would not only alleviate Bear Brute and others' concerns but also allow Lingfeng to feel at ease.
Returning to the inn, Lingfeng deliberately opened the window. In all of Bai Family Town, only the White Jade Escort Agency was illuminated. Sparse dog barks echoed on the street, and soon people emerged from their homes to watch the commotion.
Usually, the White Jade Escort Agency flaunted its power; now it had relieved the grievances of the common people.
Lingfeng leaned on the window sill and chuckled to himself, thinking that at this moment, Ziren must be sitting on the ground crying at White Phoenix Mountain. Ziren should be standing by with a frown, watching the fire unfold!
The more Lingfeng thought about it, the funnier it became; his mood lightened significantly. He lay on his bed but found it hard to fall asleep as if he had accomplished something earth-shattering.
Just as dawn broke, Lingfeng had not yet woken up when he was startled awake by a hurried knocking at the door. He jolted upright; someone must be looking for him this early, likely regarding matters related to the White Jade Escort Agency. He quickly got up and opened the door.
Sure enough, Second Clerk stood outside mysteriously with a water basin in hand as he entered the room.
"Second Brother, why are you here so early?" Er looked around and quickly closed the window, whispering, "I heard that the White Jade Escort Agency caught fire yesterday, and all the Hundred Venom Bees they raised were burned to death. Early this morning, people from the State Government also left the White Jade Escort Agency on their White Phoenix Messengers!"
Lingfeng was pleasantly surprised and hurriedly asked, "Do you know what they went to do?"
The Second Clerk shook his head and then said, "They didn't head towards Wisteria Mountain; instead, they went in the direction of the State Government. They probably suffered some setbacks at Wisteria Mountain and returned!"
Upon hearing this news, Lingfeng felt like jumping three feet high.
With Ziren gone, Lingfeng could continue searching for Monkey Head. Moreover, to pass through the Demon Subduing Continent, he would have to go through the State Government. This way, when Lingfeng passed by the State Government, he could return the Phoenix Pearl without anyone noticing. Wouldn't that be great?
Lingfeng couldn't wait to tell Bear Brute the news, so he hastily washed his face and then rode off.
Along the way, the mountains and rivers, flowers and grass seemed like fleeting images. Lingfeng had no time to appreciate them; he just wanted to quickly inform the State Government about Ziren's retreat and set off as soon as possible.
Before long, Lingfeng arrived at Bear Brute's hideout.
"What? He really left?" Bear Brute was thrilled upon hearing Lingfeng's words.
Lingfeng nodded and added, "Yes, I burned all the Hundred Venom Bees yesterday and then set a big fire at the White Jade Escort Agency. It was quite a sight..." Lingfeng became more excited as he spoke and started dancing around without realizing he had repeated himself.
Bear Brute and Man Pillar looked at Lingfeng's joyful expression with delight on their faces. They immediately instructed everyone to prepare a feast to welcome Lingfeng.
However, Lingfeng quickly raised his hand to stop them.
Bear Brute looked puzzled at what Lingfeng wanted.
"Brother Bear, I've already wasted too much time. With Ziren's retreat today, I should set off!" Lingfeng said softly.
Bear Brute was taken aback and quickly said, "Brother, why not stay a few more days?" In truth, he knew that Lingfeng had already misunderstood for quite some time; he just didn't know what to say to keep Lingfeng.
Lingfeng shook his head helplessly, the excitement on his face completely gone.
"Lingfeng has already left once; didn't we still meet? Who knows, Lingfeng might leave today, and we could meet again tomorrow!" Man Pillar saw the two with worried expressions and cleverly tried to persuade them.
Only then did Bear Brute show a smile, laughing heartily, "Yes, yes, my brother is right! Since we didn't part forever last time, it means we are fated! It's unworthy of a man to be crying and sulking at this moment!"
Lingfeng gratefully glanced at Man Pillar and finally smiled. After bidding farewell to Bear Brute and Man Pillar, Lingfeng rode off into the distance.
In mid-air, several Doves were perched there. A Dove flew swiftly from afar, carrying a middle-aged man on its back. Upon reaching Ziren, he bowed and said, "My lord, I just discovered someone riding away from Wisteria Mountain, and the bandits from Wisteria Mountain have already appeared!"
Ziren smiled proudly and thought to himself, "You think you can compete with me? You truly overestimate yourselves!" With that thought, he waved his hand and called out, "Everyone listen up; tonight I will set Wisteria Mountain ablaze!"
It turned out that Ziren was using a flanking tactic. Last night, the White Jade Escort Agency had suffered an inexplicable fire, and Ziren had guessed that it must have been caused by the experts from Wisteria Mountain. He then led everyone riding Doves in the opposite direction of Wisteria Mountain, creating the illusion that they were returning to the State Government.
Meanwhile, Lingfeng was so overjoyed that he forgot how treacherous people's hearts could be. As a State Government overseer, Ziren's cunning was naturally beyond ordinary comparison.
Lingfeng rode his white horse and had been galloping for several days.
Before him stood a Stone Mountain, covered with enormous stones. Strangely enough, those stones were all red, the color of blood.
This Stone Mountain stretched endlessly, resembling a long red dragon with no visible head or tail.
However, upon closer inspection, there seemed to be a path on the red Stone Mountain; from a distance, it looked like a blood vessel of a dragon.
Lingfeng smiled and called out, "Horse, it seems there is a path ahead; let's go over!" With that, he tightened his legs around the horse's belly and shouted.
However, a gust of wind blew by, and the Horse not only did not move forward but instead took a few steps back.
Lingfeng found it strange; usually, this Horse loved to run, so why was it acting timid now? He then picked up the whip and struck the Horse's back heavily.
The Horse neighed as if startled and suddenly turned to run away.
Lingfeng became anxious, thinking to himself that he had come all this way and could not let it take him back. He immediately leaped into the air and landed lightly on the ground. However, that Horse continued to gallop away into the distance.
Lingfeng shook his head and sighed, "It seems you can only take me this far!" With that, he walked towards Stone Mountain without looking back.
This Stone Mountain was not very high, only about five hundred meters. The mountain was covered with large red stones of various strange shapes, which were somewhat eerie.
Upon reaching the top of the mountain, Lingfeng sat down to rest for a while. He casually picked up a stone, glanced around, recited an Incantation, and then threw the stone away.
Lingfeng did not use much strength, but the stone flew like a cannonball, soaring far away and striking a large rock, embedding itself within it.
Lingfeng smiled and looked at the stone on the ground, thinking that such things were rare. It would be better to collect more into his Xuanji; this way, he could utilize his Gold Manipulation.
He then chanted, "Stone, gather!" Suddenly, all the stones within a three-mile radius around Lingfeng disappeared completely.
Just as he was about to continue walking, Lingfeng suddenly felt a sense of unease. He quietly sensed his surroundings and realized that something was wriggling behind a nearby giant rock.
"Could it be a snake?" Lingfeng thought curiously as he quietly approached the giant rock.
However, before he could take ten steps, that giant rock suddenly toppled over, and a pillar of fire shot out in an instant.
Lingfeng was startled; without thinking much, he quickly retreated.
Behind the giant stone, there was a Red Fire Serpent. The serpent was as large as an ordinary water bucket and its entire body was a fiery red. It had a red crown on its head, shaped like flames.
Lingfeng steadied himself and, upon seeing the true form of the serpent, couldn't help but feel overjoyed, exclaiming, "It's actually a Fire Serpent!"
The Fire Serpent is a rare beast from the Cultivation Realm, with a fire attribute. Fire Serpents prefer to inhabit remote areas, where they begin to cultivate their inner dan.
This particular Fire Serpent was entirely red and quite robust, clearly having already formed its inner dan.
Lingfeng was both surprised and delighted, thinking to himself, "If I can consume this Fire Serpent's Inner Dan, my cultivation will instantly break through to the Foundation Establishment stage!" However, Lingfeng's cultivation level was not high, and it would likely be somewhat difficult for him to kill the Fire Serpent.
The Fire Serpent flicked its tongue, its red eyes inscrutable. It stood quietly in place, seemingly unprepared to launch an attack.
Yet, even if it did not attack Lingfeng, he would still take the initiative to strike.
Lingfeng rolled his eyes, smiled lightly, and casually recited an Incantation.
The Fire Serpent clearly did not understand what Lingfeng was doing; it merely tilted its head and faced him off. In reality, it had no idea that danger was approaching.
