Facing the statue, Lingfeng wondered how these people intended to punish themselves. However, since they clearly wanted to determine his identity, he felt somewhat dissatisfied with their treatment of him and boldly said, "Aren't you supposed to determine my identity? Why do you still want to punish me?"
The burly man glanced at Lingfeng expressionlessly, then knelt on one leg and held his forehead with both hands, saying in a tortured manner, "Great Sun God, we are your subjects. This person has shown you disrespect; we request your punishment upon him!"
Lingfeng couldn't help but chuckle; it seemed this man intended to hand him over to the Sun God. But gods were not so easily appeased, so he replied, "The Sun God and I are brothers. If you let me go, I will ask the Sun God to bless you abundantly!"
Upon hearing this, the others were taken aback and promptly knelt before the statue of the Sun God, murmuring incantations.
Lingfeng naturally didn't care. Although he didn't fully understand the Sun God, he had no absolute reverence or faith in deities. In his view, as long as one had their own consciousness and thoughts, one's fate was entirely in their own hands.
Moreover, Lingfeng had already embarked on his journey of cultivation and had contributed significantly to the stability of the Mortal Realm. He felt quite proud and even a bit reckless.
"You have repeatedly shown disrespect to the Sun God; we will cut off your head and let the Sun God deal with you!" The burly man stood up and said to Lingfeng in a muffled voice.
This time, Lingfeng was not having it. He quickly stood up and shouted, "That won't do! I've already told you I'm the brother of the Sun God; how can you be so bold? Besides, if you're not going to feed me, just let me go!"
Little did he know that Divine Fork Yang State was a place that completely revered primitive customs. Although these people were somewhat aware of progress in the outside world, their current lifestyle remained at a primitive stage. Their worship of deities, especially the Sun God, was entirely rooted in that primitive mindset.
In their eyes, any unprovoked invasion of their territory was an affront to the dignity of the Sun God.
One person nearby took out a sharp knife and heated it over the fire before handing it to the burly man.
The knife glowed red from being heated and emitted wisps of green smoke.
Lingfeng gasped; although he was a cultivator, being struck by such a sharp knife would be painful even if it didn't kill him. He quickly exclaimed, "How can you do this? Does your State Government allow such random killings of innocents?"
"We have no State Government here; we only have Elder Yang!" Suddenly, an old man's voice came from behind the Sun God statue.
The people were startled and quickly stepped aside, respectfully lowering their heads.
Then, the Sun God Statue turned slightly, revealing a space behind it, from which an old man with white hair and a white beard emerged.
Lingfeng was not particularly interested in the old man but was very curious about the hole behind him. In his view, such a place must be hiding some treasure.
Unfortunately, the old man's thin body completely blocked the view of the hole, making it impossible to see anything inside. After the old man left the entrance, the Sun God Statue returned to its original position.
Lingfeng sighed impatiently and said irritably, "Why does my grandpa have to wander around in front of me?"
The old man had a kind face and always wore a smile, appearing much more amiable than those around him.
"Young man, where do you come from?" the old man asked gently.
Lingfeng looked at him; although he was quite frail, his eyes were bright, giving off a very healthy vibe.
"This old man must be someone extraordinary. Now that I have released my Spiritual Energy as a cultivator, he should know my identity!" With this thought in mind, Lingfeng replied, "I come from the Cultivation Realm!"
Lingfeng's answer was ambiguous and quite mischievous.
"Do not be disrespectful in front of Elder Yang!" The burly man shouted at Lingfeng for his disrespect towards the old man.
The old man was not upset; instead, he waved his hand at the burly man and said to Lingfeng with a friendly demeanor, "You are quite mischievous, but you have the capital to be so."
In fact, Lingfeng was already stunned. He never expected that the person before him was actually Elder Yang, the Grand Elder of Divine Fork Yang State.
Elder Yang, known as the Grand Elder of Divine Fork Yang State, is not revered for his higher cultivation but rather because he is the authoritative ruler of Divine Fork Yang State.
Similar to the Barbarian Sect, Divine Fork Yang State is not governed by a State Government but is directly ruled by the Grand Elder here. Due to the emphasis on primitive living and the sparse population, they are organized into tribes. However, the size of the tribes varies greatly, and naturally, the largest tribe must heed Elder Yang's arrangements.
The title of Elder Yang is not exclusive to one individual; it is a hereditary honorific.
In this place, the Sun God is regarded as the greatest deity, and His messenger on earth is called Yang. The successive elders of Divine Fork Yang State abandon their original names and are referred to as Elder Yang.
Beneath Elder Yang are the Moonlight Elder and Stardust Elder, and under these elders are countless disciples and clansmen.
Lingfeng was astonished, not because he was in the presence of the ruler of Divine Fork Yang State, but because he never expected to meet him so easily. He was even more surprised that Elder Yang lived in such a humble place.
Seeing Lingfeng staring blankly at him, Elder Yang couldn't help but laugh heartily and then waved his sleeve at the burly men, saying, "You may leave now. I have a connection with this brother; you need not disturb us!"
The men were initially taken aback, but they had to obey Elder Yang's words unconditionally. They bowed to him and then exited.
"Follow me!" Once everyone had left, Elder Yang said to Lingfeng.
Lingfeng was still immersed in astonishment and didn't know what to say; he could only nod obediently and followed Elder Yang to stand before a statue.
Elder Yang waved his sleeve at the face of the statue and then chanted, "Open!" The statue turned at an angle, revealing a hole behind it.
"In fact, you need not be surprised. Your arrival here to meet me is entirely fate!" After leading Lingfeng into the cave and closing the door, Elder Yang said.
Only then did Lingfeng begin to regain his senses. He had been led into this intriguing cave without paying attention to anything about Elder Yang; instead, he was looking around curiously.
There is nothing particularly unusual here; it is simply a completely enclosed space, roughly eighty square meters in size, and the interior arrangement is quite monotonous. The only interesting feature is the sun-shaped lighting fixture floating above.
Elder Yang watched Lingfeng, who looked like a curious child, and smiled patiently like a grandfather to his grandchild. He then walked over to a chair and gently sat down.
"Elder Yang, do you live here?" Lingfeng asked, surprised at that moment.
Elder Yang nodded and said, "All living things reside on this planet. It doesn't really matter where you live, as long as you can ensure safety and cultivate your character; that is enough!"
Lingfeng internally disagreed with this statement, thinking that if he had to live in a desolate mountain area for years, no matter how safe it was, he wouldn't agree to it. However, he still nodded, as Elder Yang's words had their own reasoning.
"By the way, why did you bring me here?" Lingfeng asked curiously.
"Because you and I are destined to meet, and this has already been predetermined!" Elder Yang explained with a smile.
Lingfeng scratched his head, not understanding what Elder Yang meant, and sat down beside him playfully saying, "I know there is a saying about five hundred encounters in past lives leading to a chance meeting in this life. But I don't understand why this is already predetermined!"
"Hahaha..." Lingfeng's straightforwardness touched Elder Yang deeply; he really liked this aspect of his personality. Lingfeng's innocent question even made Elder Yang laugh heartily.
"What are you laughing at?" Lingfeng asked in confusion.
Elder Yang sighed lightly and then asked Lingfeng to wait a moment while he stood up and walked to the center of the enclosed space.
At that moment, Lingfeng noticed that the center of this enclosed space was actually a sun-shaped painting. Although the painting did not emit any Spiritual Energy, Lingfeng could tell at a glance that it was not just an ordinary painting.
Elder Yang stood in front of the painting, closed his eyes, brought his palms together, and began to chant softly.
Before long, the sun-shaped light source in the painting began to rotate, and its radiance formed a huge crimson halo. Gradually, the interior of that massive halo was filled with fiery red light, resembling a flattened sun.
Lingfeng looked up at the scene before him, astonished.
Moments later, a beam of light shot from the center of the halo directly into Elder Yang's hand, and then it vanished in an instant. In Elder Yang's hand appeared a Sun-Shaped Stone Tablet.
Elder Yang exhaled, smiled at Lingfeng, and then walked over to Lingfeng and handed him the Sun-Shaped Stone Tablet.
Lingfeng held the stone tablet in his hands, and a warm current flowed from it into his body. This sensation felt familiar, yet he could not recall when he had experienced it before.
"What is this?" Lingfeng asked in confusion.
"Take a look at the writing on the back of the tablet!" Elder Yang replied.
Lingfeng was unsure of Elder Yang's intentions but obediently flipped over the tablet, only to find flowing characters inscribed on it.
The color of the characters matched that of the sun, appearing as if they were made from dyed water. However, no matter how he held it, the characters did not flow down.
The inscription on the tablet read: "Array Master, Gain Fire Protection Formation! Obtained Fire Protection Formation!"
