"We're going to the town to exchange supplies. You stay here to guard the convoy. If anything unusual happens, signal Nick. If it gets too troublesome, just leave us and go."
"Okay, Father!" Freya nodded, indicating her understanding.
As one of the two Knight-Level Experts in the team, even though it was relatively safe now, there was no need to go to the town with the Baron. The convoy carried a lot of valuables, so it was essential to have someone capable guarding this place.
Seeing his sensible daughter, the Baron nodded slightly and had Damsdin drive the carriage toward the town.
Once the carriage entered the town, Freya turned back, took out the map from her possession, and checked the route they would take next, calculating the approximate time to reach Dragon Harbor.
This world was much larger than Earth had ever been. According to the Baron, it would take at least three months to travel from Green Castle to Dragon Harbor.
In addition to traveling overland with the carriage, there was a country called Salko situated between Byron Kingdom and Rudin Kingdom. If they wanted to arrive quickly, they would need to take a ferry from Salko's port before reaching Dragon Harbor.
There were some connections between Salko and the Sea Tribe, and some rumors suggested that Salko was a territory of a certain faction of the Sea Tribe on land. Moreover, it had deep ties with Dragon Harbor, making it difficult to discern the truth among these mixed realities.
"However, we should be able to exit in about four days. That would make things a bit safer," Freya sighed lightly.
The map in her hands was detailed within Byron's territory, but outside that area, most markings were quite vague. Some distant places were marked only with dashed lines representing the unknown.
Humanity's understanding of this world was still shrouded in darkness; aside from known areas, many other regions remained unseen.
Moreover, as far as Freya knew, a planet's surface is composed of various tectonic plates. However, according to books she had read, aside from the vast oceans at the edges, humanity had yet to step into the expansive seas and discover information about another continent.
This indicated that there were still many places left to explore and understand.
"I really wonder what those places are like," Freya mused curiously out of boredom.
The Baron had been gone for quite some time now. The remaining members were squeezing in some rest; the pressure of fleeing created a sense of urgency among these warriors. For those ordinary people who were still unaware of the invasion, they might still be busy working hard, considering how to live better in the future.
Hearing Freya's command, Nick pulled out a tubular object from his waist and gave it a strong tug, causing a faint starlight to flicker and slowly rise.
"Besides confirming they are imperial soldiers, can you see their numbers?" she asked, slightly furrowing her brow as Nick quickly descended from the tree.
"It seems to be just one squad, about thirty people or so. By the way, they are all wearing Leather Armor," Nick analyzed.
"Leather Armor?" Freya pondered with her head down.
Everyone followed Freya's instructions, concealing themselves and pretending to be an ordinary merchant convoy.
In the distance on the road, a group of horses was rapidly approaching. They were moving at great speed, with two individuals at the front carrying the Byron Empire's military flag, but they were wearing Nick's Leather Armor instead of the standard issue armor of imperial soldiers.
"Perhaps they are the vanguard of the imperial soldiers... some sort of escort team," Freya speculated as she watched the approaching cavalry.
As Freya's group spotted them, the imperial soldiers also noticed them.
"Who are you?!" shouted a soldier resembling a captain as he pulled on his galloping warhorse.
After about fifteen minutes of travel, shadows of a few houses gradually appeared on the originally sparsely populated road.
Occasionally, one or two ordinary people dressed in linen clothes or hunters carrying simple bows and quivers were encountered. These passersby showed a hint of vigilance and fear towards the caravan, which was armed and clad in Leather Armor.
Clearly, the people here were not very easy to approach.
Ignoring their expressions, the caravan soon entered the town's vicinity.
They secured the carts and warhorses in a grove outside the town.
Most people dismounted to rest for a while, feeding some black beans to the warhorses that had run hard.
Freya and Eric also got off the cart. Although they had been sitting inside, they felt somewhat fatigued.
After stretching a bit, Freya gazed at the nearby town.
From a distance, the town did not appear large; it was more accurately described as a slightly larger village. Brownish-yellow wooden houses were neatly arranged on both sides of the street. Due to the rain, the ground looked wet and muddy from being trampled by occasional passersby.
Some people dressed in plain linen clothing could be seen moving about in the town.
Baron casually handed a bag of black beans to a nearby Guard and then called out to those behind him.
"Come with me, a few of you take a cart into town to exchange for some supplies. We will rest for an hour before setting off!"
A few responded to Baron's voice.
Soon, a cart was brought over by Damsdin and another trusted aide, driving it next to Baron.
After jumping onto the cart, Baron turned to Freya, who was not far away, and gave her instructions.
Putting away the map in her hands, Freya noticed Eric animatedly talking to Howard Bailey, who had just slightly risen.
In relatively good spirits, Freya approached the carriage and took out some maintenance oil to wipe down her Cross Sword.
In this kind of rain, if weapons are not properly maintained, they can rust quickly.
As a Knight-Level Expert, she placed great importance on her weapon, and some individuals even treated their weapons as lifelong companions.
Although Freya's weapon was just an ordinary Cross Sword, it still required care.
Freya carefully wiped the Cross Sword with a white cloth, a gentle breeze brushing against her cheek.
Suddenly, her expression changed slightly as she looked up; her Knight-Level heightened senses detected a rhythmic pounding sound from the ground.
"It feels like a cavalry unit is galloping..."
Moments later, she straightened up abruptly and shouted, "Everyone get up! A cavalry unit is coming this way!"
Nick and Howard Bailey, standing at a distance, were the first to react, followed by the other Guards who had barely rested for a few minutes.
"What cavalry unit? Sister?" Eric asked, somewhat confused.
"It seems to be an army... Nick!" Freya focused intently.
Following Freya's instructions, Nick quickly ran to a nearby tree. His agile movements allowed him to climb to the top swiftly.
"Sis! The flags look like soldiers from the Byron Empire! What should we do?" Nick shouted down from the tree.
"Signal! Let Father know!" Freya responded quickly. "Everyone else, hide the weapons and valuables in the carriage!"
