Three hours later.
At the West Gate of Aelgreen Wizard Academy.
In front of the massive black iron gate, a girl dressed in a Gray Robe stood quietly.
She carried a cleverly designed black package on her back, and at her waist hung an ordinary Cross Longsword. On her feet, she wore black boots with two exquisite daggers tucked into each side.
The morning breeze lifted the girl's golden hair, and the cool sensation made her spirit slightly invigorated.
As the wind blew, it was faintly visible that beneath her Gray Robe, she wore a brown Leather Armor. However, unlike ordinary Leather Armor, this one was etched with strange patterns and symbols, emanating a subtle chill.
This girl was Freya, who had been waiting here for some time according to the information given by Rand.
Originally, Rand had instructed her to arrive at seven in the morning, but to appear more formal, Freya had intentionally arrived half an hour early.
At this moment, the sun was slowly rising in the distance, and the refreshing morning air gradually faded as the sun ascended.
The surrounding trees rustled softly in the breeze.
Freya looked up at the enormous black spire within the academy, where the clock was gradually pointing towards seven o'clock.
From the direction of the academy, two Black Carriages slowly approached.
The drivers were not humans but Rabbit Guardians from the academy. Their large rabbit bodies expertly grasped the Reins of the carriages. Although they performed actions similar to those of humans with skillful ease, it still appeared somewhat absurd.
Soon, the carriages arrived in front of Freya.
Four figures dressed in Gray Robes stepped down from the carriage, one of whom was Rand, familiar to Freya.
Perhaps not expecting Freya to have arrived, Rand blinked and then revealed a gentle smile.
"Weren't you told to come at seven? Why are you here so early?"
"Hehe, I was just afraid of being late. Besides, I just arrived as well," Freya replied with a somewhat respectful tone.
"Is that so?" Rand glanced at Freya's slightly damp hair, affected by the morning dew. Although he knew it was fake, he chose not to call her out on it. Instead, he waved over the other three apprentices who had come down from the carriage and smiled at Freya.
"Hehe, last time you left in such a hurry, I wanted to introduce you to my friends. It seems it's not too late now." Rand pointed to the three approaching individuals and paused before introducing them from left to right.
"This is Nikola from the Negative Energy System, this is Lal from the Plant Energy, and finally, this is my sister Lani. And this is your junior, Freya."
The last sentence was directed at the three to introduce Freya.
"Hello, I am Freya from the Positive Energy System," Freya greeted them warmly.
There were two men and one woman. As Rand introduced them, all three nodded at Freya but did not speak. Only Lani, Rand's sister, cast a curious glance her way; the other two remained expressionless as if they had no intention of engaging with Freya.
Although Freya felt somewhat displeased by their indifferent attitude, she didn't mind too much. She understood that some Apprentice Wizards were bookish types who were not very skilled in socializing outside of their studies and research. This was their first meeting, so perhaps these three were of that type.
Noticing that his introduction had fallen flat, Rand gave her an apologetic smile and changed the subject.
"It's just past seven now. I think the others will arrive shortly. Let's wait here for a bit."
"Well, okay." Freya nodded lightly.
Then she chatted with Rand for a few more moments. After that, they couldn't find any more topics to discuss, and fell into silence.
The two Rabbit Guardians acting as drivers seemed to have skipped breakfast. While everyone was silent, they jumped off the carriage and began nibbling on the grass by the roadside.
Freya's gaze wandered as she watched the two rabbits eat, but in reality, she was sensing the concentration of Energy Particles around the other people.
She noticed that aside from Rand, who was also a Second-Class Apprentice, the other three, including Rand's sister, all exuded the aura of Third-Rank Apprentices.
This made her understand why these three were somewhat indifferent towards her.
The level of a Third-Rank Apprentice was already very close to that of an Official Wizard, and the gap between them and a Second-Class Apprentice was significant; they were not even on the same level. Even in conversation, aside from some trivial small talk, there was really no common ground.
Freya also quietly observed that while their attitude towards Rand was somewhat better, it still carried a hint of condescension.
'Three Third-Rank Apprentices taking on this seemingly ordinary Magic Pet Mission—unless there is something hidden about this task or the person who issued this private mission has an extremely special identity... I wonder if that's good or bad,' Freya thought to herself.
About an hour later.
The sun at eight o'clock had already risen high in the sky. The Rabbit Guardians climbed back onto the carriage with their bulging bellies; one of the rabbits even let out a loud burp, clearly having eaten well.
Even after waiting for some time, none of the other four showed any signs of impatience except for Freya.
At that moment, in the distance along the road from the academy, a White Steed carrying two people slowly approached.
A man and a woman were standing nearby, both wearing gray robes that indicated their apprentice status. They seemed to be a couple, with the man sitting behind the woman on a white horse, his arms wrapped around her. Suddenly, the woman blushed lightly and shrank her neck.
Seeing the white horse approaching, Rand stretched out his arm and waved vigorously.
Freya squinted slightly; as the horse drew nearer, she could clearly see the faces of the two individuals.
The man had blonde hair and blue eyes, handsome but with an overly pale complexion. There were faint black marks under his eyes, seemingly covered by some powder, giving him a somewhat insubstantial appearance even while riding.
He reminded her of those debauched noble youths she had encountered back in Byron.
The woman he held in his arms was suddenly recognizable as Lena, the girl she had worked with on the Carrion Beast mission. Unlike last time when Lena had carried a longbow, she now appeared to be unarmed, looking as if she were going on a vacation.
However, seeing the intimacy between the two gave Freya some understanding of Lena's mindset; she had certainly latched onto a strong partner.
The man on the white steed noticed Rand's wave and smiled, saying something to Lena before gently urging his horse to trot over.
"Rand, is everyone here yet?" he called out loudly before even reaching the ground. (To be continued)
