"Everyone is here!" Rand replied loudly.
With Rand's response, the horse also approached the group.
The two riders dismounted, and the man gave the horse a pat on its rear, allowing it to return to the academy on its own. He then turned to the others, a gentle smile appearing on his face.
"Greetings, everyone. I am Akhberon, the issuer of this private mission for Magical Pets. If you capture the Crimson Snow Bat, I will pay each of you ten Magic Stones as a reward. The task is quite simple, and I believe with your abilities, it will be easy to accomplish."
"Ten Magic Stones? Are you serious?"
Hearing the reward offered by the man named Akhberon, Nikola from the Negative Energy System was momentarily stunned, then asked in disbelief.
"Of course, I keep my word. As promised, I will pay you half now." Akhberon smiled at Nikola and then took out a black bag from his waist and tossed it over.
Nikola caught the bag and opened it immediately. Inside were numerous black Magic Stones, easily counting twenty or thirty pieces at a glance.
This made the others understand that the seemingly superficial man before them was indeed genuine.
However, Freya was not surprised at all because she had recognized his identity as soon as he revealed his name.
Akhberon, full name Axeberne Benifin, was the grandson of the Second Elder of the Benifin Family. He was a notable figure within Elgreen Academy, having become a Third-Rank Apprentice at just fifteen years old and being one of the most promising candidates for promotion to Official Wizard this year.
It was rumored that he had a cold and cruel personality due to his experiences, but from what could be seen now, he did not match those rumors.
Though he appeared somewhat superficial, both his words and actions conveyed a sense of maturity and sophistication.
"Did not expect that Rand's friend is him?" Freya squinted slightly at Aishebun, who was standing there calmly, wondering what he was thinking.
Soon, each person received five Magic Stones in their hands.
Freya solemnly put the Magic Stones into her pouch. Although she was unsure if Aishebun genuinely wanted to capture the Crimson Snow Bat, she felt that with half of the payment already secured, even if something unexpected happened, it wouldn't be a loss.
"Alright, it's getting late. We're heading to the Abyssal Lake within the academy area. If we delay any longer, it might take us longer to return," Aishebun said lightly as he looked at everyone who had received their Magic Stones.
Upon hearing this, everyone felt somewhat speechless. If it weren't for waiting for him, they would have set off at seven o'clock.
However, Aishebun ignored everyone's gazes and pulled Lena toward the carriage behind them.
The employer had already boarded the carriage. The others had no choice but to follow suit and boarded another carriage, separating from Aishebun.
Fortunately, the space in the carriage was quite large, and sitting five people together did not feel cramped.
With a strange shout from the Rabbit Guardian driving the carriage, it began to move slowly.
Except for Freya, the other four were familiar with each other and shared a friendship.
At that moment, Rand was introducing Aishebun's true identity to the two boys. Upon learning about his background, both of them showed varying degrees of surprise.
"I didn't expect that guy to have such a significant background. Rand, why didn't you mention it earlier?" Nikola complained a bit.
Although he was also a Third-Rank Apprentice, it was not enough for him to understand Aishebun's identity, and he had just questioned Aishebun earlier, which made him feel somewhat embarrassed.
"I can't help it. Aisberon told me not to reveal his identity to you guys yet," Rand said, shrugging his shoulders with a tone of helplessness.
"You're the foolish one, so who can you blame?" Lal, from Plant Energy, looked at Nikola with glee. He then turned to Rand and asked, "But seriously, just for catching a Crimson Snow Bat, he offers ten Magic Stones? Is he foolish or just has too much money? Or does he have some ulterior motive?"
"It should be genuine because I heard in the family that he has his eyes on Sister Philia from the Belrus Family, and Sister Philia wanted a cute Magical Pet at the last ball," Rand pondered while stroking his chin.
"Sister Philia? Is she the one known as 'Cold Flower'?" Lal looked at Rand curiously. "Could it be that Aishebun is a masochist? Besides, that one in his arms looks pretty good; he even wants to touch ice blocks..."
"I wouldn't know about that..." Upon hearing Lal mention Lena, Rand's expression slightly stiffened. Then it seemed like he recalled something unpleasant, and his mood became somber.
Sitting quietly beside them, Freya listened to the three boys' chatter. Next to her, Lani had taken out a black notebook and was studying it intently since they entered the carriage, appearing as if she did not want to be disturbed.
Freya glanced at the notebook and noticed it contained only some simple principles of Spell Models, and it seemed to be handwritten based on the penmanship.
She understood that as a wizard's level increased, their grasp of knowledge also needed to improve. However, human memory is not fixed; some learned things would fade away after a period and needed to be reviewed to be remembered again. Therefore, since beginning their studies in wizardry, some people carried a notebook as a record of key points of knowledge for easy reference when they forgot.
This habit was common even among Official Wizards. However, for Freya, such things were unnecessary because of her unique way of thinking. Even knowledge she did not understand could be memorized through rote learning and comprehended through other methods. Moreover, she possessed an ability to never forget.
If Freya were to reveal this special memory ability of hers, it would likely attract attention quickly, with people wanting to study her.
Throughout the journey, Rand made some deliberate attempts to engage Freya in conversation to help her integrate into their circle. However, Freya found it hard to contribute anything meaningful to their casual discussions. Even when academic topics arose, she struggled to connect due to her specialized focus in other areas, leading her to gradually fall silent.
Rand saw her like this and did not insist any further.
In such a dull atmosphere, two carriages entered a town in the Elgreen area around noon.
After a simple lunch and some rest, they set off again.
Around five in the afternoon, the two carriages arrived at a gorge.
Due to the narrow roads and dense trees, this place was no longer suitable for carriages.
Therefore, everyone got off the carriages.
Freya was the last to get down. As soon as she stepped off, her leather boots crunched on the soft, decaying leaves, making a crisp sound, and some black insects quickly scurried away from beneath her feet.
She glanced around and noticed that the temperature in this gorge seemed to be one or two degrees higher than in other places. In the distance, there was a misty feeling with a somewhat damp sulfur smell.
"It seems we are very close to Abyssal Lake," she thought to herself. (To be continued)
