The trees lining the road slowly receded as the carriage moved forward, occasionally accompanied by the cheerful chirping of birds.
A black signpost at the roadside quickly flashed by.
The people at the front of the convoy seemed to be arguing, occasionally raising their voices in reprimand.
A gentle breeze swept through, prompting Freya to open her eyes.
She lifted her head slightly to observe her surroundings; the trees along the road had become much shorter and sparser, with patches of farmland appearing now and then.
"Are we almost at Main City?" she said lightly, correcting her current position in her mind.
This time, on her return to Katia, she chose a wider commercial road that had more travelers instead of taking the same route as before.
Although the journey was somewhat longer, it effectively avoided the presence of Spirits. She had come to suspect that her unique constitution attracted Spirits' attention in areas where death had occurred. This was particularly troublesome.
It was manageable during her time at the academy, but now she had exhausted all materials for dealing with such creatures and could not replenish them. If she encountered one again, it would be difficult to escape, especially since she was carrying something important. To prevent any accidents, she thought of this basic method of response.
Gently smoothing out the wrinkles on her long skirt, Freya grasped the reins of the carriage. The empty clouds were already tinged with a faint red; the sun was setting in the west, and it was nearly time for dinner.
In the distance along the wide road was a fork; according to her mental map, the left path led to Main City while the right headed toward Guderan City.
As she traveled further, she realized that reaching Main City meant they were not far from Katia anymore.
Due to the crowds along the way, she hadn't had a good opportunity to thoroughly examine that blue crystal. Now that she was in this large city, it was a perfect chance to study it properly.
Glancing at the fork ahead, Freya flicked the reins. The Black Carriage that had been trailing behind immediately veered off course.
The carriage sped up, soon matching the pace of the luxurious carriage at the front.
Driving the carriage beside her was an ordinary young man dressed in black linen. He smiled politely as he saw Freya approaching. "Sister Freya, is there something you need?"
"Yes, please inform Lady Diana that I have reached my destination. Thank you for your care along the way," Freya replied with a smile.
"Oh? Are you leaving?" Perhaps hearing Freya's voice, the curtain on the side of the carriage gently opened, revealing the face of a beautiful woman. The passage of time had not made her appear aged; instead, it had given her a gentle and dignified aura.
This was the owner of the caravan that Freya had encountered on her way after leaving Colt Forest. At that time, Lady Diana had fallen ill due to unfamiliar surroundings, and there was no doctor available for the caravan. Coincidentally passing by, Freya had helped her out, and since their directions aligned, she traveled with this caravan.
"Yes, my lady, I have several patients in Main City that need treatment, and that is why I came," Freya casually fabricated a reason.
"You truly are a kind child. Well then, since you have made your decision, I will not keep you any longer. Take this; if you encounter any difficulties, you can come find me in the capital." She reached out from the window and handed Freya a white round token, which Freya accepted.
Glancing at the Lion Emblem on the token, Freya held it in her hand and nodded with a smile. "Haha, of course. Then goodbye."
"Mm, goodbye." Diana also smiled as she closed the curtain.
After exchanging pleasantries, Freya shook the reins again and continued toward Main City.
One hand held the reins while the other played with the token in her hand.
The token was made of ordinary material, but the exquisite Lion Emblem surprised Freya slightly.
"I didn't expect that by casually helping someone, I would end up assisting a countess. I really don't know what to make of this."
Although such mortal influence meant little to an Official Wizard, it might still be somewhat helpful for Freya at this moment. With her current strength, she could be considered among the top tier of mortals' combat power; however, she still could not ignore the power of ordinary people like an Official Wizard could. Having this token might allow her to bypass certain encounters if necessary.
After playing for a while, she casually tossed it into her waist pouch.
As they traveled, the number of carriages heading towards Main City began to increase. Upon reaching the City Gate, Freya, who was supposed to check the carriages, simply displayed her badge and was immediately given way with respect.
The carriage moved through Main City. Although it wasn't completely dark yet, lights were gradually illuminating the city, and some night shops had opened their doors to welcome customers.
Freya bypassed the bustling area of the city and found a more reputable-looking inn to stop the carriage.
At this time, many carriages were already parked in front of the inn, and some travelers were entering under the guidance of the inn's attendants.
Freya's carriage had barely stopped when a young attendant approached.
"Excuse me, do you need a room?" His deliberately trained polite smile easily made a good impression.
'Ivan Inn - Beta'
Freya glanced at the name tag on his clothing, got off the carriage with her luggage, and nodded. "Yes, I need a quieter room. I will be leaving tomorrow morning, so please take good care of my horse."
"Of course." The attendant skillfully took the reins of the carriage and smiled. "Please come inside; someone will assist you there."
"Alright." Nodding again, Freya walked directly into the inn.
As soon as she entered, Freya noticed that the facilities of this inn were quite impressive.
The warm yellow lighting, red flooring, white walls, along with murals and fresh flowers created a simple yet elegant atmosphere.
The first floor of the inn was a restaurant, where only a few guests were quietly eating.
Just as Freya was finishing her observations, a servant quickly approached.
"Sister, please follow me. We need to do a personal record before checking into the inn."
"Record?" Freya raised an eyebrow in confusion as she withdrew her gaze. "Why is there a need for a record?"
"Well, recently the lord of Main City was assassinated. Although the Lord of the City is safe, something very important was stolen, and the entire city is currently under martial law. If you came from outside the city, you might have heard about it," the servant replied skillfully.
"Oh, I see." Freya nodded in understanding. No wonder Main City, which usually doesn't conduct checks, had set up guards at the City Gate today. At that time, she hadn't paid much attention to the round badge she received, but now it did seem suspicious.
However, none of this was particularly relevant to her.
After completing the record and paying the fee, Freya followed the servant to a relatively quiet room.
On the table was food that had been sent at her request.
After a simple meal, Freya took out her personal books and the mysterious Azure Crystal Pillar.
She had already read most of the books during her journey. Although they were profound, they were mostly theoretical and didn't provide much practical help aside from broadening her knowledge and experience.
After all, among all those books on that massive bookshelf, many had been completely corroded, and only these few remained intact. She couldn't really make any selections; although it was regrettable, it couldn't be helped.
After casually flipping through the books, Freya finally picked up the blue crystal with seriousness.
Through the light in the room, Freya could see a faint glow swirling within the crystal, surrounded by an elusive aura.
Previously, Freya had considered cutting off a piece of the crystal for research purposes, but later she discovered that no matter what method she used, she couldn't separate even a tiny bit.
The crystal seemed like a solid whole, impervious to any external force. Freya estimated that if someone were to use brute force, the entire crystal would likely be rendered useless.
Moreover, with her level of experience, she couldn't identify what kind of crystal this was; she could only speculate based on her knowledge that it belonged to some kind of biological energy crystal.
In terms of functionality, aside from being similar to an Energy Gathering Array, she also discovered it had a remarkable effect of purifying mental energy.
This allowed her, who was close to the peak of Third Rank mental energy, to experience a regression after using the crystal for meditation, yet the quality of her mental energy reached a new level.
If she were to estimate the value of this object visually, she wouldn't know how high it could be.
"If only I could decipher the information inside; then I could determine its source. By the way, let's test its energy response!"
Gently stroking the crystal in her hand, just as Freya was about to make a move, a crisp knocking sound suddenly came from outside the door.
"Knock knock knock."
"Who is it?" The sudden interruption made Freya frown slightly.
"Freya sister, it's the hot water you requested earlier." A young female voice came from outside.
"Oh, come in." Hearing that voice reminded Freya of her request when she entered.
With a creak, the door opened, and two attendants bowed as they slowly brought in a wooden tub filled with water, steam rising gently from the hot water.
Freya stood by watching their movements until the tub was placed in position before the three of them exited.
The door was closed.
Freya glanced at the door, then reached out and lightly flicked it. A strand of green energy attached itself to the door, sealing it completely.
After doing this, she walked over to the wooden tub and tested the water temperature with her hand; it was just right.
Thinking carefully, since she arrived at Colt Forest, she hadn't had a proper bath aside from her usual washing. If it weren't for the magic that kept her clean, she would probably smell by now.
Now that she had finally come to a relatively comfortable place, it was the perfect time to take a bath.
She simply removed her long dress and undergarments, revealing her gradually maturing figure.
She gently touched her fair abdomen and chest, only to realize how quickly she had developed without even noticing.
Moreover, her abdomen was smooth and soft, without any defined muscles from exercise. (To be continued)
