“Bert, are you sure this letter is sent from Master Sara? Didn't she go to a gathering earlier?” Freya suddenly raised her head, holding the letter in her hand, and asked seriously.
“Yes, this letter was delivered by the teacher's unique flying seed. The aura of the seal cannot be faked.” Seeing Freya's expression, Bert also felt something was off. “What's wrong, Senior Freya? Did something happen with the teacher?”
Freya did not immediately answer Bert's question. She narrowed her eyes slightly; it was not surprising that Saradin knew she had returned. This Elglen's Villa had been set up with some protective Magic Circles by Saradin. If anything happened at the villa, Saradin would definitely know right away. However, the information in the letter was too shocking and made her feel somewhat unreal.
Suddenly, Freya placed her hands on the shoulders of the ten-year-old boy and looked into his eyes, speaking calmly: “Bert, have everyone in the villa temporarily stop all activities and close the main door. Don't open it even if someone comes. Do you understand? I need to step out for a bit! I’m counting on you here!”
“What…” Suddenly being stared at by Freya made Bert's cheeks flush slightly, but just as he opened his mouth to ask something, Freya turned and went back into her room.
In a short while, Freya emerged wearing red Leather Armor, with two Cross Longswords hanging at her waist.
In addition to the two long swords, a row of Black Daggers was sheathed in her belt behind her, obscured by her blonde hair so that the exact number was unclear.
At this moment, Freya's entire demeanor had turned unusually cold, which left Bert at the door feeling somewhat dazed, as if he were seeing her like this for the first time.
Ignoring Bert's expression, Freya walked briskly and suddenly extended one hand; a flash of black light flickered and vanished.
At the end of the villa's corridor, a powerful neigh of a horse could be faintly heard.
Hearing the sound of the horse, Freya gradually quickened her pace, a faint aura emanating from her.
Before long, a black Steed suddenly burst around the corner and charged toward Freya, breaking through various obstacles.
Expressionless as she looked at the familiar Black Stallion, Freya pushed off with her feet and leaped onto its back. Gently pulling on the Reins, the black Steed immediately galloped toward the villa's main gate.
At high speed, her golden hair flew wildly. Yet there was a hint of cold killing intent in Freya's eyes.
‘The Blue Eagle Nest is actually gathering Katia’s mortal army to invade my Elgreen base? And Count Romando, who has been cooperating with the academy all along, has already been killed… Does this organization not fear the wrath from the academy?’
Freya still tightly gripped the letter in her hand; it contained nothing other than a plea for help from Saradin along with specific locations.
From the letter, it seems that Saradin's group fell into the ambush and traps set by the Blue Eagle Nest. Although Count Romando was not harmed, the crisis for Saradin and the others is not yet severe, but if this continues, the outcome is uncertain.
"The brazen killing of imperial nobles indicates that this attack by the Blue Eagle Nest has likely been premeditated for a long time and may have connections with other nobles," Freya quickly analyzed the information she had received as she hurried toward the outskirts of Katia City.
The Black Stallion was brought by Freya from the academy. Compared to ordinary military horses, its speed was significantly faster. With the location provided by Saradin, she would arrive in about ten minutes.
Most of the Apprentice Wizards stationed there were not combat types, and given the resource scarcity in that area, their combat abilities were only slightly better than those of ordinary soldiers. This was also why Freya chose to go alone.
Focusing her mind and getting herself into optimal condition, Freya leaned low against the horse's back and sped forward.
...
Somewhere on the outskirts of Katia City.
The once lush forest was now covered in yellow sand, as an invisible energy Force Field slowly but steadily turned this land into desert.
In the dry yellow sand, a group of people was fleeing in disarray.
Most of them were guards clad in silver-white armor wielding Broad Swords, while at the center of this group was a gentle woman in a green Robe.
Feeling the gradual imbalance of Energy Particles around her, Saradin, who had been in a passive position from the start, felt exceptionally stifled.
This large-scale trap that altered the terrain required a significant amount of time to set up; it was clear that this was a conspiracy specifically targeting her.
'Fortunately, this sand transformation has not yet been fully completed, and there is still a way to break through as long as I can avoid the limitations of this trap… then I…'
'Puff.'
A faint sound suddenly emerged from beneath the ground, causing Saradin's expression to change. "Not again! Everyone scatter!"
A concise command caused the gathered guards to disperse in an instant, while Saradin quickly stepped back and threw a black seed towards the source of the sound.
Just as everyone had separated, a burst of sand erupted from that spot, revealing a massive, fierce head.
The monster's body, already over three meters tall above ground, resembled a giant brownish-gray earthworm. At its tip was a large circular mouth, inside which layers of white sharp teeth could be faintly seen, glinting ominously in the sunlight.
As soon as the monster emerged, it lunged toward Saradin. However, just as it retracted its body, the black seed thrown by Saradin suddenly burst open, and countless brown vines rapidly extended outwards. The vines were lined with rows of black barbs that clung to the monster's body, quickly wrapping around it.
The black barbs seemed to possess strong corrosive properties; wherever they pierced the monster's body, thick white smoke began to rise accompanied by hissing sounds.
In just a minute,
"Boom!"
A massive cloud of dust was kicked up as the monster was completely corroded by the strange vines.
Watching the monster's demise, everyone let out a slight sigh of relief. However, Saradin's face had turned somewhat pale, and she felt a slight dizziness in her head.
The mental energy expended to catalyze that seed had reached twice her usual amount. If more monsters like this appeared, even if she didn't get killed, she would likely fall into a coma due to mental exhaustion.
"I can't take it anymore; we need to break through here quickly! Otherwise, I'll be drained eventually," she murmured to herself while scanning her surroundings.
Endless yellow sand surrounded them; this sandstorm's Force Field had expanded to such an extent.
Gradually, a heavy expression appeared on her face.
"We'll go this way!"
After discerning the direction slightly, she quickly made her decision.
However, not long after everyone had left, three young men dressed in Gray Robes slowly arrived at the previous location.
They were completely concealed in their Gray Robes, with hoods covering their heads. On the chests of these three men was engraved a simplified blue Eagle Head.
One of the men in the middle quietly approached the monster and gently touched it, a hint of joy appearing in his eyes.
"It seems that old woman's mental energy has already been depleted by half. As expected from the formation set up by the master himself. If we deplete it a few more times, it will be our turn to take action!"
Upon hearing his words, the other two nodded in agreement without saying anything.
...
Fifteen minutes later.
Freya pulled Reins, her face dark as she scanned the surrounding forest. Although they had arrived at their destination according to Saradin's information, it felt as if she had entered a strange loop; no matter how she ran, she always ended up back at the same spot.
"Is it an illusion?" She dismounted, her black Leather Boots crunching on the leaves beneath her.
Suddenly, she wrinkled her nose slightly; there seemed to be a faint sour smell in the air, which appeared to be coming from underground.
Clang!
She drew a Cross Sword and thrust it forcefully into the ground.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A rolling sound suddenly emerged from beneath the thick layer of decaying leaves.
Freya withdrew her Cross Sword and suddenly found that the Sword Tip was embedded in a bizarre worm as thick as an arm.
“Sandstorm Worm? I can't believe this species is here,” she said, frowning slightly as she looked at the writhing worm that was not yet fully dead, a thoughtful expression on her face.
Suddenly, she flung the worm away and swept Cross Sword across the ground.
The decayed leaves were sliced open by Cross Sword, revealing the dark yellow gravel beneath.
Crouching down, she gently scooped up a handful of sand. Freya squinted her eyes slightly and immediately stood up, walking towards a large tree not far away.
Cross Sword Blade slowly glowed with a crimson light, a scorching aura swirling within it.
‘Sizzle’
Cross Sword thrust forward suddenly, the hot air leaving a fierce red mark as it pierced into the tree.
‘Clang’
It produced a surprisingly crisp sound.
“Just as I expected!”
Looking at the unharmed tree, Freya slowly raised Cross Sword, a faint buzzing sound emanating from Blade.
A ring of white and red energy gradually gathered at the tip of Cross Sword, forming a faint cone shape.
‘Ding!!!!’
With a huge sound, subtle ripples slowly appeared before her eyes, following the thrust of Cross Sword.
“This level of defense…”
Feeling the hardness of it, Freya took a few steps back, shook her hand, and slowly drew another Cross Sword.
With two Cross Swords in hand, Freya suddenly charged forward, her body spinning rapidly like a top.
A scorching airflow erupted instantly.
Clang, clang, clang, clang...
Dense ripples rose like boiling water, and under Freya's deliberate slashes, a white mark slowly revealed itself.
Creak.
The sound of shattering glass echoed as a large hollow suddenly appeared.
Puff.
Seeing the hollow emerge, Freya abruptly halted, white smoke rising from her feet due to the intense spinning.
Through the hollow, Freya could see what was inside; behind the hollow was a golden desert, and within that desert, she could faintly hear the roar of some creature. (To be continued)
