As soon as Freya stepped into the magic circle, a green halo emanated, and a faint scent of fresh grass immediately filled the air.
This scent was unique, seemingly mixed with the distinct fragrance of a young girl.
Freya looked down at the magic circle beneath her feet and noticed that the scale shape formed by the runes was slowly tilting. An invisible energy, the Force Field, was gradually encroaching upon her body, as if trying to eliminate something.
Feeling this harmless energy, Freya understood that it was a normal phenomenon. The duration of the magic circle was two hours, so she simply closed her eyes and entered a meditative state.
Two hours later.
Freya opened her eyes to find that the Magic Stone in the center of the circle had completely turned transparent. Surrounding the magic circle, she noticed that some tender sprouts had unexpectedly emerged from the ground, likely due to energy contamination.
Not paying attention to the plants on the floor, Freya sensed the energy particles within her body and lightly snapped her fingers.
With a puff, a wisp of blue smoke appeared on her fingertip, but it was quickly followed by a burst of green light.
Freya looked at the phenomenon in her hand, a satisfied expression appearing on her face.
"Not bad. Just once and I can already gather a small amount of Fire Element Energy Particles. At this rate, I should be able to achieve balance in about a month."
After becoming an Official Wizard, one's lifespan would significantly extend. For an Apprentice Wizard, although this extension wasn't very noticeable, it still existed.
A month wasn't very long for Freya to return to the academy.
She had been reassigned right after being promoted to Third-Rank Apprentice and had only seen a small portion of the Basic Knowledge related to Third-Rank Apprentices. Now was just the right time for her to catch up thoroughly.
This time away made her acutely aware of her lack of knowledge. Even if something special was placed before her, without relevant knowledge, she couldn't determine whether it was good or bad and thus couldn't assess its value.
The next day.
Freya woke up early and after a simple breakfast headed straight to the Mission Hall. She posted the task for Demon Eye Grass and paid the fee before continuing towards the Trading Area.
She had originally planned to purchase a defensive Spell Model yesterday but got delayed due to trading with an Old Wizard; now it was conveniently on her way.
The Trading Hall looked just as it did yesterday. Following her memory, Freya quickly arrived at Lisa's Spell Model shop.
The originally quiet shop was now half-closed.
Freya walked to the door and gently knocked. "Is anyone there?"
It seemed that her knocking was heard, as soon footsteps quickly approached from inside. Before long, a familiar face appeared before her; it was the young man who had previously sold her the Model.
Seeing him come out, Freya directly asked, "Are you still selling Models?"
Perhaps not expecting an apprentice to come here, the young man was slightly taken aback. However, he quickly put on a professional smile and said, "Of course, of course. What type of Model are you looking to buy? We have the most comprehensive Zero-Level Spell Models of the Positive Energy System in the academy."
He pushed the door open and gestured for her to enter.
Ignoring his introduction, Freya walked to the counter. She glanced at the huge bookshelf behind it and turned back to say, "I need a list of Level One Defensive Spell Models of the Positive Energy System. Do you have that?"
"Level One Spell Models?" Upon hearing Freya's question, he slightly retracted his smile and looked her up and down before formally stating, "Of course we have them, but not many. You know our academy's specialized direction."
Noticing the change in his attitude, Freya nodded slightly. "I understand; Magic Stones are not a problem."
She had over seven hundred Magic Stones in total. Although she had spent fifty on a task involving Demon Eye Grass, she was still quite wealthy.
"Alright." After giving Freya another deep look, the young man walked behind the counter, bent down, and took out a thin booklet from a drawer. He placed it in front of her and said, "This is a chart of Level One Defensive Spell Models of the Positive Energy System. It includes various departments, but those marked in gray indicate that they have already been sold or are unavailable; please take note."
"Okay." Nodding, Freya opened the booklet.
After quickly browsing through the catalog, she found that aside from the Defensive Spell Models of Negative Energy, all of the Positive Energy ones were quite complete.
Her gaze skipped over other departments as Freya directly flipped to the two categories she was most proficient in: Fire Element and Wind Element.
The Fire Element Spell Models filled five or six pages; however, after flipping through them briefly, Freya noticed that almost two-thirds were marked in gray. The same situation applied to Wind Element.
This made her frown slightly as she realized the academy's extreme lack of Spell Models for other minor departments.
Zero-Level Spell Models were acceptable, but there were far too few First-Level Spell Models for Official Wizards.
"It is no wonder that aside from the Necromancy Department and the Shadow System, wizards from other departments have been relegated to auxiliary roles," she thought calmly.
However, despite the scarcity of Spell Models, she managed to select a few defensive Spells that were relatively suitable for her.
Trollus' Wind Barrier: Actively guides Wind Energy Particles to surround her body, forming a distorted barrier that can effectively block ranged spells or physical attacks. Its weakness lies in melee physical attacks and touch-based spell attacks. The advantage is strong defense and long duration.
Blessing Wind Blade: Stores a surge of Wind Energy Particles within her body, which will be shot out as a wind blade in the direction of an attack when struck. The power of the wind blade depends on her affinity with the Wind Energy Particles, and the number of blades doubles every two uses. The advantage is fast firing speed and instant release. The downside is a lack of special protective capabilities.
Lava Shield: Actively guides Fire Element Energy Particles and Earth Energy Particles to attach to her body, forming a lava armor that lasts for ten minutes. It can defend against both ranged spells and physical attacks. Its weaknesses include a longer casting time and shorter duration, with no immunity against water-based spells, making it cumbersome. The advantage is that the lava armor can burn enemies during combat, providing outstanding defense.
Corrosive Wind Eye: Implants an eye from a Corrosive Beast combined with Wind Energy Particles to create a corrosive wind that indiscriminately attacks within a five-meter radius; the closer one gets to the center, the greater the corrosive effect. Its weaknesses include indiscriminate attacks and the need to implant a new Corrosive Beast's eye every month, along with a fear of ranged attacks. The advantage is exceptional corrosive ability.
Burning Field: Creates a high-temperature Force Field with a radius of about three meters; any enemy entering this area will suffer burning damage. The downside is high consumption. The advantage is great power.
These defensive Spells were specifically chosen by her as being quite good and roughly suitable for her needs.
Of course, aside from these, there were other Spells available, but in terms of power and effectiveness, they were far inferior to these options, not to mention their higher costs; even the cheapest Burning Field was priced at thirty Magic Stones.
As an Official Wizard's Empowerment Spell, once selected, this Spell would directly become passive; even those that are actively released would turn into pseudo-passive abilities. This required Freya to carefully consider which one to choose.
In terms of power and practicality, although Lava Shield has more disadvantages than advantages, if it became an Empowerment Spell, its effectiveness would undoubtedly be optimal.
However, for Freya herself, it seemed somewhat unsuitable; after all, she was focused on speed and quick strikes. If she donned a layer of lava armor, her speed would certainly decrease significantly, making it somewhat counterproductive.
While Trollus' Wind Barrier was stable and had decent defense, Freya preferred close combat.
After looking through her options, Freya frowned slightly. These were all defensive Spells she had specifically selected, yet their pros and cons left her uncertain about which one to choose.
The Defensive Spell she envisioned was one that leaned towards auxiliary defense—capable of protecting herself while also assisting in close combat—but clearly, while these met some criteria, their differences left her somewhat dissatisfied.
Struggling to make a decision, she flipped through other departments' Defensive Spells.
Water-based, Earth-based, simple Mental Field-type Defensive Spells, as well as Plant Energy—her second affinity.
Although there are not many defensive spells in each category, their combined quantity is quite considerable. She has reviewed all types, including active, passive, and subconsciously triggered spells. While some met her requirements, either they did not match her affinity or their power was too weak to be considered.
After much deliberation, Freya decided to purchase the initial few defensive spells she had looked at and would study them back at her dormitory.
After all, the defensive spell model also requires personal optimization. If her knowledge is sufficient, she might even transplant some minor functions from other defensive spells into another spell. Of course, this is contingent on the strong compatibility of both spells or Freya's solid knowledge being able to compensate for any spell conflicts.
In addition to the initial few spells, Freya selected a few more outstanding defensive spells, although they were generally less effective than the first ones she had chosen.
The young woman laboriously placed a black leather suitcase with a thud on the counter. Inside was a stack of thick books in various colors.
The knowledge reserve required for first-level spells is significantly greater than that for zero-level spells. To master them all, one must be well-versed in various related knowledge, spell formulas, and energy structures.
Feeling a bit pained, Freya handed over the magic stones and walked out of the shop satisfied.
Although this expenditure was somewhat high, it was necessary. After all, empowerment spells determine future safety; making hasty choices could endanger her life. Therefore, this matter must be approached with caution.
'The defensive spells are settled for now; it's time to head to the academy library to fill in the gaps in my knowledge.' (To be continued)
