This was a simple warning, yet it nearly put Thomas into a state of serious injury, causing him to faint.
James squinted at the two long silver tassels behind Freya and the Cross Sword that still glowed with a crimson light.
The rapid and highly penetrating attack method from earlier was something he could not defend against, no matter what.
Even though he still had several Cursed Items on him, he felt an illusion that if he were to act now, he would likely be the one getting hurt.
After thinking for a moment, he sighed lightly and withdrew the eye-catching black gem hidden behind him into his sleeve. Then he glanced at the unconscious apprentice from Serpent's Tooth Tower.
Suddenly, he pointed a finger, and a mass of black goo instantly flew out, covering the face of the unconscious apprentice.
Just three or four seconds later, the apprentice's breath turned into silence.
Watching the other person's death quietly, he turned his head and looked at Freya with an inexplicable gaze, pointing at the remaining Krol and speaking coldly.
"There are only three of us awake here now, but you cannot kill this person—at least not in front of me. How about that?"
"Of course, it's up to you," Freya said, her smile deepening.
Krol beside them turned pale, beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead. He was terrified of these two Apprentice Wizards from Elgreen Academy.
However, James still had a sense of comfort knowing that his own mentor was around to protect him.
With a cold glance at Krol, Freya flicked her longsword and sheathed it with a clang.
No matter how strong or cunning James was, it would have no effect against her current strength; she could easily interrupt him before he cast a Spell and inflict damage.
With the peak power of a Third-Rank Apprentice combined with physical qualities nearing that of a Knight's Pinnacle, no one below the level of a wizard could possibly be her opponent.
James killed an apprentice from Serpent's Tooth Tower to show her his stance.
After all, despite their opposition, they belonged to the same academy. For the apprentices of the hostile Wizard Organization, if he did not act this way, Freya could easily record it and use it as leverage against the Quictor Family with the academy's higher-ups.
The silver Tassel behind her slowly dissipated as Freya gently touched the pitch-black bracer in her hand, finding a small indentation the size of a fingernail in the center. A horizontal β rune was hidden within.
Feeling the information contained within, she strode over to the unconscious Andy the Wizard, reaching out to lightly draw a thin wound across his face, crimson blood slowly flowing down.
She dipped her fingers in his blood and smeared it on the indentation, causing a subtle energy fluctuation.
The carriage behind her immediately emitted a puff sound, followed by the instant disappearance of the hidden black Force Field.
Glancing at the still-closed carriage, Freya turned back to James and said calmly, "Fifty-fifty, is that alright, Lord James?"
"Of course."
James lowered his head; Freya's fifty-fifty clearly did not include Thomas. However, given the current situation, it was still a concession to him, even though he would bear the greatest loss.
"Shall we open it together?" Freya asked with a light smile.
Without a word, James walked expressionlessly toward the carriage.
Watching James's back, Freya followed closely behind.
Although she seemed to have completely suppressed her feelings toward him, she remained on guard.
Before they set off, she had conducted a simple investigation into James. Among the academy's Third-Rank Apprentices, he was known as 'The Liar,' and his cunning and quick temper were well recognized by everyone.
Many had died at his hands, and his achievements were nearly comparable to those of the former Aishebun of the Benifin Family.
The carriage door was easily opened.
Inside were rows of wooden boxes and bottles, all separated by soft dry straw, with a rich energy aura emanating from each wooden box.
Standing behind James, Freya glanced around and directly reached for a glass bottle filled with a large number of black eyeballs.
The eyeballs in the bottle seemed alive; upon seeing the outstretched hand, their pupils immediately contracted.
She picked up the bottle and lightly sniffed it, discovering that these black eyes emitted a faint scent of black tea.
"Indeed, it is the smell of Demon Eye Grass."
Seeing that she had finally obtained the last resource, Freya revealed her true smile.
James glanced at the smiling girl, raised an eyebrow, and said disinterestedly, "Demon Eye Grass? My family has plenty of that in our warehouse. If you need more, I can lend you some."
"Heh, no need."
Shaking her head slightly, Freya put away the bottle and turned her gaze back to the other resources inside the carriage.
She noticed that most of the resources inside were of a similar level to Demon Eye Grass, all extremely rare items for her.
Meanwhile, James took out another clever wooden box, opened it to reveal a tender green grass. If it weren't for the faint energy aura it emitted, it would likely look just like the weeds found by the roadside.
"What is this?" Freya instinctively asked as she looked at the unfamiliar grass.
"It's an herb that can regulate mental activity, nothing unusual," James replied flatly without turning around.
"Oh, is that so?" Freya nodded lightly, indicating her understanding.
James was also taking this herb to increase his chances of promotion; he probably wouldn't take long to prepare for it once he returned.
Freya, on the other hand, had the Ice Blue Crystal Bracelet, which kept her mental energy in an active state, so she didn't particularly need this rare herb.
Now that both of them had chosen what they needed most, the remaining items, while precious, weren't particularly necessary for either of them at the moment.
However, the horses pulling the carriage had already died from corrosion due to the battle. Just as they were discussing how to transport so many resources back to the academy, a sudden sound of rapid running came from not far away in the forest.
"Someone's coming!"
Hearing that sound, Freya immediately activated her dark defensive Force Field again. At the same time, she looked seriously at the source of the sound.
James also took out a round talisman and held it tightly in his palm.
Soon, as the sound grew closer, two familiar figures dressed in Gray Robes suddenly appeared in Freya's line of sight.
"Hey? It's the Will Brothers!?"
When Freya saw them, the anxious Wilton brothers also noticed the white carriage and Freya nearby.
Alan's expression changed slightly, but Edward suddenly shouted loudly at the two.
"Run away, that madman is coming!!"
"What?"
Hearing the shout, James frowned slightly. However, they soon noticed a terrifying figure with a burnt face behind the Will Brothers, clad in a black robe.
Freya, standing nearby, was taken aback. From the unmarked black robe, she suddenly recognized this person as the one she had seen chasing the Red-Robed Wizard earlier.
Knowing his strength, Freya's expression changed drastically. Without a second thought, she turned and ran, her previously dissipated aura and azure energy reappearing simultaneously.
The rapid speed stirred up a large number of leaves.
James saw Freya's fleeting figure as she escaped and gritted his teeth, quickly running towards the unconscious Thomas.
He then crushed the sphere in his hand fiercely.
'Crack'
The Silver Sphere shattered. A strange energy force field enveloped the two of them.
At that moment, the two originally solid figures slowly transformed into two clouds of pitch-black smoke, rapidly fleeing in another direction.
"Hehehehe, you can't escape. How dare you set your sights on me, a mere Third-Rank Apprentice? Hehehe."
The voice of the man in the black robe was exceptionally sharp, and his pursuing figure was incredibly elusive, as if unaffected by gravity.
The Will Brothers watched their former companion flee on his own while feeling the immense threat behind them. In a moment of desperation, Edward suddenly threw the silver token he had used before at the black-robed figure.
A vague gray shadow suddenly surged out from the silver token and lunged toward the black robe.
However, just as he was about to collide with the figure in the black robe, a burst of blue lightning appeared in front of him, and the gray shadow was directly caught in his hand.
"Hehe, it's Shadow Cat. This low-level shadow creature can't even break through my Force Field!"
He grinned as he held the gray cat shadow, applying a gentle force. The shadow was instantly crushed into countless pieces, dissipating into the air.
Seeing his last resort easily shattered, the two Faces changed expression. They turned and fled again.
Meanwhile, the figure in the black robe slowly raised an arm, palm open.
Suddenly, a blue hand made of countless electric currents appeared behind Allen.
'Crack!'
With a sound like shattering glass, the hand passed right through Allen's back and emerged at his chest.
Allen looked in shock at the blue hand on his chest, his face losing color rapidly. He raised his head to glance at Edward, who had not noticed anything unusual, and gently lifted his hand.
"Brother, don't leave me..."
Before he could finish his sentence, his entire body was violently thrown by the blue hand released by the figure in the black robe.
With a loud bang, he crashed into a nearby tree, half of his body sliding down at a ninety-degree angle.
Without even glancing at the lifeless corpse, the figure in the black robe eerily licked its palm and continued to chase after Edward.
...
The green trees beside her flew past quickly. Although there was no danger behind her, Freya still increased her speed.
She had witnessed the strength of that figure in the black robe, and from his tone, he seemed to be somewhat inexplicably neurotic.
There was simply no way to communicate with someone like that.
In any case, the most important item, the Demon Eye Grass, was already in her possession; she could only escape for now.
With all her strength, she unleashed the sensation she had formed, creating a Tassel that stirred up large amounts of decaying leaves behind her.
Five minutes later.
A streak of yellow quickly appeared before her eyes in the dense forest; it was the only path through the woods.
Just as Freya let out a slight sigh of relief, a gray figure resembling a Leonine Figure suddenly leaped out from the bushes. (To be continued)
