Suddenly, her figure vanished.
When she reappeared, it was above James.
The crimson Cross Sword erupted with dazzling flames.
At that moment, Freya hovered in the air like a massive Firebird, her beak locked onto James.
"Final Chapter - Blood Bird!" she whispered.
A piercing wind rushed by, resembling a shrill bird's cry.
Then came the thunderous crash.
Boom!!!
After a dull sound, the entire forest ignited in flames, mixed with faint, sorrowful wails.
After a long while, the flames slowly extinguished, leaving behind the crackling sounds of charred trees on the blackened ground.
A gust of wind swept through, carrying the scent of burnt remnants.
Freya stood at the edge of the scorched earth, her gaze calmly fixed on the trembling figure ahead.
At this moment, James was covered in burn marks and numerous lacerations, his body soaked in dark red blood.
In the center of his chest was a terrifying Blood Hole the size of a fist, through which the blackened ground could be faintly seen.
At this point, the distorted Force Field surrounding him had been forcefully shattered by Freya. If it weren't for some Cursed Items he possessed that could resist physical attacks, he would have likely been sliced into pieces by Freya's earlier strike.
But even so, the current James had no power to resist.
Glancing at the still-living James, Freya gently remarked, "As expected of an Official Wizard, even in this state, his vitality is still so strong. An ordinary person would have long since breathed their last."
After a pause, Freya slowly walked up to James, her Cross Sword slightly leaning forward, then suddenly thrust it fiercely down towards James's head!
'Thud!'
In an instant, his entire body stiffened and the breath of life slowly faded away.
Although she was curious about why James wanted to kill her, since he had shown intent to kill her, he had to be prepared for death.
Once a talented peer and apprentice, now he lay silently dead beneath her sword, which made Freya feel a bit sentimental.
However, this feeling quickly vanished.
With a clang, she retracted her Cross Sword and scanned the still dark surroundings.
The forest showed no signs of disturbance from their battle. Even the usual wild beasts were completely absent.
It was clearly part of James's design.
Yet Freya was puzzled; since he was such a cautious and cunning person, why didn't he bring more people with him?
But pondering these things was meaningless now.
Kicking the corpse over, although it was unrecognizable, Freya knew that James was an important member of the Quictor Family and carried numerous Cursed Items.
If it weren't for Freya taking him out so quickly, she would likely have been the one to die slowly.
After a brief search, Freya frowned slightly as she pulled out a blood-stained dagger from beneath the corpse.
"Is this all that's left?"
It was unclear whether it was due to James's death or Freya's powerful attack. After a quick rummage, she found that everything on James had turned to Black Ash, leaving only this strange dagger intact.
After a moment of thought, she quickly stowed the dagger and ran towards the direction of the original carriage.
She had no idea how many people knew about James's plan to assassinate her.
But regardless, James was already dead, and as the one who killed him, Freya would likely be wanted by the academy.
If she didn't leave now, it would be troublesome if the academy's guards discovered her later.
Running through the forest, it wasn't long before the Black Carriage appeared in her sight.
She hurried to the front of the Black Stallion. Freya reached out and lightly flicked it, causing a strand of green light to instantly enter the Black Stallion's nostrils.
The Black Stallion, lying on the ground, shook its head slightly as if waking up, blinking its eyes in confusion about what had happened.
Freya quickly packed up the tent nearby and then mounted the carriage.
Pulling on the Reins, the carriage began to move after a brief pause.
The twisted path was marked with traces of Disarray from battles, with bodies and Synthetic Creatures hidden among the trees and grass that had yet to return to the earth.
Freya controlled the carriage's advance with an indifferent expression.
Even though she was wanted by the academy, she had no regrets about killing James.
The academy no longer held much importance for her; aside from knowledge, there was little left to miss.
It might be a bit troublesome regarding the matter entrusted to Rand.
However, when the time comes, it should not be a problem to secretly send Lani out in Rand's identity.
Calmly contemplating the possible follow-up to this matter.
In the distance, the originally pitch-black sky faintly revealed a patch of bright light.
Some red and yellow birds chirped as they flew across the sky.
Freya squinted slightly at the morning light in the distance. "I can't believe it's already getting bright so quickly."
The dense forest grew shorter as she advanced, and several temporary wooden huts built by hunters occasionally appeared around her.
Freya turned back to glance at the forest behind her and the tall Black Building within it, wondering what thoughts crossed her mind.
...
In the pitch-black forest before dawn.
The strong smell of decay permeated the air, and traces of burning flames and cuts from Sharp Blade were slowly revealed in the gradually brightening atmosphere.
In this eerie ambiance, three figures dressed in black Robe were holding a white bag, sprinkling a blue powder.
Once the powder touched the air, it immediately transformed into Light Blue Liquid, falling onto these traces.
Strangely enough, when these battle remnants came into contact with Light Blue Liquid, they emitted hissing sounds and produced white smoke.
After a while, one of the figures in black robes wiped away the last trace before him and gently rubbed his hands, saying,
"Rand, is this enough?"
Hearing the man's question, Rand glanced around and nodded in satisfaction.
"Yeah, more or less. They shouldn't discover anything. We just need to dispose of James's body in the end."
"Heh, your friend really has some skills, managing to take down James! He wouldn't be your lover, would he?" Another figure in a black robe teased, clapping his hands.
"Dilada. Stop joking. Rand has Lani now; aren't you afraid he might cast an illusion spell on you and make you run around in public again?"
"Uh."
Rand looked at his two friends bickering with a hint of exasperation. He shook his head slightly and said, "Alright, enough of that. Let's finish this up and get out of here. The Rabbit Guardian from the academy will probably be here soon. Do you want to face those perverse monsters?"
Perhaps Rand's threat was quite effective, as the two who were bickering immediately fell silent.
After sprinkling the last of the powder, the three headed toward James's body.
Before long, the charred corpse appeared before them.
Rand walked over, looking indifferently at the disfigured body. He pointed a finger.
A wisp of blue light floated from his fingertips and slowly descended onto the corpse.
'Smack!'
As soon as the light touched the body, a large layer of blue ice rose up instantly, completely covering the corpse in an instant.
Then, Rand snapped his fingers.
Immediately, under his control, the ice layer began to compress slowly with a creaking sound.
Before long, the once complete corpse had shrunk to the size of a human head.
Glancing at the ice block that had completely turned black and red, Rand stepped forward and stomped the ice block containing James's body into the ground.
Beside him, a figure in a black robe named Dilada pulled out something resembling a Crystal Pillar from his waist and tossed it to where the corpse lay.
With a 'hiss!', an invisible ripple flashed by. The Crystal Pillar twisted and transformed into a white rune that gradually scattered into the air.
Watching the rune completely dissipate, Dilada said with satisfaction, "Now, even the Great Prophet would have a hard time predicting James's death."
Returning to his previous position, Rand whispered to the two, "Thank you."
"Not a problem," the other replied, waving his hand. "However, this time I've repaid the favor I owe you."
"Hehe, of course," Rand smiled.
"But is it worth it for a newcomer with no background?" Dilada frowned slightly as he looked at Rand. "You should know that the Quictor Family holds much more weight in the academy than your current Fennel Family."
"Absolutely worth it," Rand replied without hesitation. "Even if James doesn't die now, I would have killed him soon anyway."
His words revealed an unrestrained intensity of killing intent.
"What?"
"I've already found out that Lart's death in the last war is related to the Quictor Family. Hehe, it's been a long time since the higher-ups of the academy have seen blood. To conspire over a bit of power during wartime is a serious provocation to my Fenrir Corvid clan."
The two listened to Rand's chilling words, both taken aback.
Although they had some suspicions that this matter was unusual, none of them expected it to be so serious.
After thinking for a moment, Dilada cautiously said, "So, does your father and the others think the same way?"
Rand nodded gently and affirmed, "That's right. This is also one of the reasons I called you two here!"
Dilada looked at Rand, who had a serious expression, feeling somewhat speechless.
After a long while, another person rubbed his head and said helplessly, "Alright, alright, I knew calling me here wouldn't mean anything good. But fine, I'll just be responsible for killing; leave the other conspiracies to someone else. I'm not good at that."
Seeing that the person beside him had already made a decision, Rand smiled and looked at Dilada.
Feeling a bit uneasy under Rand's gaze, Dilada shrugged and said, "Uh, don't look at me. Since this guy has decided, I definitely agree."
