Chapter One Hundred Ninety-Three:
The gray smoke was the residue of the Soul Absorption Technique's Negative Energy that had been separated from those corpses.
However, compared to other smoke, the spiritual imprint within this residue was much clearer, which is why Freya cultivated it using runes combined with resources.
It could have been put to use three days ago, but unexpectedly, five days had passed in the blink of an eye.
Freya took out a pair of tweezers and gently extracted the smoke from the Test Tube.
The gray smoke seemed to have grown stronger after five days of cultivation, and one could vaguely see a dust-like Thin Line particle in the middle of the smoke.
This was an Egg, and judging by its aura, it seemed close to hatching.
Placing the gray smoke on the Experiment Table, Freya grabbed a handful of Black Powder from a nearby box and evenly sprinkled it around the smoke.
The smoke, which initially wanted to escape, appeared to be afraid of the surrounding powder, curling up from a long shape into a spherical form, quietly staying in place.
Freya glanced at the smoke that had turned into a Sphere and summoned a branch from the wooden chair, then broke it down into wood powder and mixed it with the Black Powder.
After completing these two steps, Freya took out a special Charcoal Pencil and began to draw around the smoke as the center.
Before long, a simple magic circle composed of runes took shape.
Satisfied with the completed runes, Freya put away the Charcoal Pencil and extended her hands over the edges of the magic circle.
With the touch of mental power on the magic circle, a column of green light suddenly appeared.
Crackling sounds echoed, as if countless tiny lightning bolts were bursting within the magic circle.
Within this green light, the strange transformation of the smoke was clearly visible.
The smoke, initially fearful of the black powder clumping into a ball, immediately spread out as the magic circle activated.
It seemed to transform from gas to liquid out of thin air, soon covering the entire magic circle.
The whole magic circle, radiating green light, became hazy.
Seeing this, Freya quickly pulled out a processed piece of parchment and placed it over the circle.
A hissing sound emerged, like iron meeting water, as the parchment slowly bulged on the magic circle. However, it soon flattened again.
After a long while, once all the surrounding Negative Energy was absorbed by the parchment, Freya lifted it.
On the previously empty parchment, there now appeared an Arrow that seemingly formed by a flow of gray liquid.
She made subtle adjustments as Freya turned.
"It worked." She revealed a satisfied smile while holding the parchment.
This was a tracking array designed using mental traces.
Although it wasn't as precise as a prophecy, it could only provide a rough estimate, but for now, it was the only thing Freya had to rely on.
After adjusting Arrow on the parchment, Freya was already certain that the source of this mental energy was somewhere in the west.
Given the limitations of the array's range, Freya could confirm that this Necromancer could not have left Raymond City.
After double-checking the location indicated by the parchment, she rolled it up and placed it in her waist pouch.
When she stepped out of the room, Anna had already left for an unknown destination, but a delicious meal was prepared on the table.
After having a simple meal, Freya glanced outside. It was around four in the afternoon; the sun still hung high in the sky, showing no signs of approaching dusk.
As she contemplated trying to investigate the whereabouts of the Necromancer, a sudden sound of rolling carriage wheels came from outside the manor.
At the iron gate, two silver White Carriages slowly came to a stop. One side of the carriage bore an emblem shaped like a flying fish, quite luxurious.
Before long, the familiar face of the Countess emerged from beneath the carriage.
Behind the Countess was Felix, while Hawk, who had been by her side, was nowhere to be seen.
The two walked ahead, followed by a group of guards.
However, upon entering the estate, everyone was stopped at the door by the Countess, while she and Felix approached the building with somber expressions.
Inside, Freya slightly narrowed her eyes. The Countess's injuries had healed over the past five days, but compared to before, her skin now had a slight greenish tint and appeared taut and delicate, as if she had become five or six years younger.
Her overall demeanor had also grown significantly colder.
Behind her, Felix bore a youthful face marked with numerous scars, one of which was on his left eyelid.
With two silver scimitars strapped to his back, he exuded an air of fierce wildness.
"Lady Freya..." Upon entering the door, the Countess and Felix bowed respectfully.
"Mm." Freya nodded lightly, assessing the Countess's current physical condition. She smiled and said, "It seems that the Lord of the City has been recovering quite well lately."
Hearing this, the Countess paused for a moment before revealing a faint bitter smile. "Thank you for healing my body; I have already learned about it from my uncle."
"It's nothing; this is what you earned in exchange." Freya's smile faded as she said calmly. "So, what brings you here now?"
After a pause, Countess raised her head, her expression somewhat cold.
"It is like this... Lady Freya, I plan to use my second chance."
"Oh? So soon?" Freya raised an eyebrow in surprise, looking deeply at Countess before casually saying, "Then you decide."
"I want you to take action, my lord." Countess spoke directly, as if she had thought this through beforehand.
"I take action?" Freya glanced at the silent Felix behind her and pondered. "But the value of the second chance is unequal regardless of who the enemy is."
"I understand..." Taking a light breath, Countess pulled out a pale yellow booklet from behind and handed it to her. "So, I brought this."
"Hmm?" Freya frowned slightly as she took the booklet. After just a glance, her expression turned serious.
"This is... unique to Crimson Forest..."
"That's right." Countess nodded, her expression somewhat dim. "This was originally left to me by my teacher, but I have not lived up to expectations..."
"Mm." After confirming the authenticity of the booklet, Freya put it away with satisfaction. "If this is sufficient, then who do we need to deal with?"
"It is the Teltia Family, the second son of the Second Elder who has returned from his studies." Countess said slowly. "He is also a wizard."
"Oh, a Newly Advanced Wizard?" Freya nodded.
She had some understanding of the conflicts between Countess, Raymond City, and the Teltia Family, which were primarily due to interests, resources, and power.
The Teltia Family was similar to Countess, belonging to a family of wizards that had fallen into decline to a certain extent, with no Official Wizards emerging for several generations.
Originally, the two families maintained a balance, but suddenly the Teltia Family returned with an Official Wizard, which was like a bolt from the blue for the Countess family.
The injuries suffered by Countess in recent times were likely also caused by that Wizard's Hand.
"This is some information about that wizard." Seeing Freya's decisive attitude, Countess's face brightened as she took out a piece of white paper and handed it to Freya.
"Mersais, graduated from... Unknown Month?"
After briefly scanning the information on the paper, Freya suddenly realized that this second son of Teltia had graduated from a school she was very familiar with.
It turned out to be the same academy as that madman involved in the resource dispute at Hurricane Fortress.
This made Freya slightly serious.
Back then, Marina and those from Unknown Month were extreme militants with paranoid tendencies; basically, no one wanted to provoke them.
So would those coming out of Unknown Month be normal people? Freya didn't know.
However, even if they were from Unknown Month, with the booklet Countess provided her, it would be enough for Freya to take action once. After all, this was essential knowledge about Crimson Forest, and it would be quite troublesome for other external wizards to obtain it.
After contemplating the pros and cons, Freya calmly asked the Countess, "So, is there a specific time and place? I have many things to attend to lately."
"It won't take long. It should be in the southern outskirts forest after four, as that direction is not far from a lookout point of Teltia, or a place specifically used to monitor us..."
"Alright, I understand. Come pick me up after four. If there are others, you can handle it yourselves; I only agreed to deal with Mersais," Freya said lightly.
"Of course, no problem. We have considered that," the Countess nodded.
"Well, I still have some matters to attend to. If there's nothing else, you may leave."
Freya dismissed them.
Having gained some understanding of Freya's character, the two bowed their heads again and directly exited the estate.
Watching the two carriages leave the street, Freya withdrew her gaze.
When they drove up, Freya had already caught a faint smell of blood, likely from a battle that had occurred not long before they came to find her.
"However... I didn't expect that guy to trust me so much. I really don't know what he sees in me," Freya mused as she touched the booklet in her hand, shaking her head slightly.
The prophetic knowledge of Bloodline from Crimson Forest.
This kind of knowledge that utilizes energy cycles to simulate unknown creatures for prophetic effects holds great appeal for any wizard specializing in divination.
The strict management of the Crimson Forest requires considerable effort to obtain its benefits.
Moreover, it is said that anyone who learns this kind of knowledge or uses the prophetic magic of the Crimson Forest has a certain chance of being marked by the Lunar Compass of the Crimson Forest.
However, Freya happened to know how to remove such a mark while at Elgreen Academy.
The booklet was not very thick. After some thought, Freya decided to memorize the knowledge contained in it for safety before burning it.
After completing these tasks, she adjusted her clothing and headed towards the western district of Raymond City.
Having been delayed by the Countess, the sky was already darkening, and some shops along the street had begun to light their signs.
Freya walked through this somewhat prosperous city as if she were taking a stroll, her curious gaze scanning her surroundings.
Half an hour later.
In front of a dilapidated tavern in the western district, Freya came to a stop. (To be continued)
