Chapter 217:
Blood Corpses are creatures created by Necromancers using corpses as cannon fodder.
They are not particularly powerful, possessing only slightly faster speed, comparable to that of an ordinary warhorse.
The advantage of Blood Corpses is their simple production process, allowing for mass creation.
With just a basic contamination spell and a special ritual, an ordinary person can be transformed into a Blood Corpse that only knows how to consume blood in a short amount of time.
Freya had seen specimens of such creatures in the Necromancy Department laboratory during her time at the academy.
She did not expect to find such things in the gathering place of the White Wizards.
"Could it be that a wizard has fought with the Rand Family branch?"
Shaking off the bloodstains from her Cross Sword, Freya jumped directly down from the carriage.
Turning around, she slapped the carriage with her right hand, and a layer of light green glow flashed briefly around it.
She then turned to vigilantly observe her surroundings.
"If it's a Necromancer, this could be troublesome!"
During her time at Elgreen Academy, she was well aware of various incidents involving Necromancers.
It wasn't just about their strength; it was their myriad perverse spells and contamination abilities that could easily ensnare someone who wasn't careful.
Moreover, due to the nature of Necromancers, they almost always undergo a transformation ritual for immortality upon becoming Official Wizards.
Of course, this form of immortality does not mean true immortality; rather, it allows them to escape the realm of the living to achieve an indirect form of immortality.
For example, through zombification, spiritualization, elementalization, and so on.
Basically, if they were not dealt with instantly, they would be incessantly harassed like flies.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
It seemed like the chain reaction that occurred when the first Blood Corpse appeared. Under Freya's vigilance, all the doors were suddenly broken open.
A strong smell of blood instantly filled the air.
In Freya's line of sight, terrifying humanoid figures, all covered in red and with their skin peeled away, began to gather from all around and surrounded her.
These figures crawled on all fours, their modified mouths slightly protruding, revealing sharp fangs.
Blood continuously dripped from their bodies, emitting a strange stench.
Their completely black pupils were fixed on her with a hungry gaze.
As she looked at the many Blood Corpses closing in, Freya's expression grew increasingly grim.
"Given this number, it seems all the residents of the town have been transformed."
The Blood Corpses carried their own contaminating Force Field. Any ordinary person who entered the range of this Force Field would indirectly become a Blood Corpse if they did not leave quickly.
However, this Force Field only affected ordinary people; it had no effect on wizards or Third-Rank Wizard Apprentices.
After a brief pause, without any words, the Blood Corpses let out a roar and charged directly at Freya upon seeing her.
The mass of Blood Corpses appeared particularly terrifying in the somewhat narrow street, but to Freya, it was merely disgusting.
"Hmph! Such lowly beings."
Azure Blue Eyes activated, and the Azure runes lit up and began to rotate slowly.
Sizzle!
As the Blood Corpse lunged forward, the Cross Sword swung fiercely.
The frenzied Azure Wind Flow, driven by the Cross Sword, violently cleaved through the horde of Blood Corpses.
A strange muffled sound echoed as the Sharp Blade formed from the Azure Wind Flow shredded the front line of Blood Corpses into a mass of bloody chunks.
Bright red blood instantly filled the street.
Freya, however, did not pause for a moment and began to run rapidly.
Murmuring incantations, she cut through a group of Blood Corpses and suddenly opened her left hand. A crimson, searing tendril shot out and swept around her.
With a clear slicing sound, even the nearby houses were neatly severed in half.
Dealing with these Blood Corpses, which were much stronger than ordinary humans, Freya had countless methods to slaughter them.
Although Blood Corpses possessed the undead characteristics of the Necromancy Department, once they were completely dismembered, that was the end of it.
Under the perfect slicing of Scorching Touch, the area around Freya instantly became a vacuum zone.
Watching the numerous Blood Corpses still surging forward, she thrust the Cross Sword into the ground with a clang and raised both hands.
Ten clusters of purple flames appeared on her ten fingers and were quickly shot out.
The slender flames rapidly expanded as they left Freya's control, directly turning the advancing Blood Corpses into a mass of charred remains.
Immediately after, Freya pressed her hands against the ground.
A clear tremor suddenly emerged from the ground.
"Creak, creak."
In an invisible manner, thick brown vines surged up from the earth, densely packed like coiling snakes, seemingly even more numerous than the Blood Corpses.
As soon as these vines appeared, they immediately swept toward the group of Blood Corpses.
The powerful vines almost directly twisted the Blood Corpses into bizarre shapes.
Ten minutes later.
Blackrock Town had completely transformed.
Large patches of charred earth emitted plumes of black smoke, with thick vines crisscrossing through the buildings, and many more showing sharp cutting marks.
The ground was littered with fragments of Blood Corpses.
Freya stood in the center of the town, breathing somewhat heavily.
The high-intensity casting frequency was taxing even for an Official Wizard, but it still took her ten minutes to completely eliminate the numerous Blood Corpses.
After resting for a while, she sheathed her Cross Sword with a clang and looked with disgust at the coagulated blood on the ground before heading toward the carriage.
Since there were Blood Corpses here, the Necromancer must be nearby.
Moreover, judging by the situation, if any members of the Rand Family had not perished, they would likely be seeking refuge elsewhere.
"It’s time to find a Signal Tower to report the situation here to Rand, and I can’t delay Lani’s matter any longer."
Just as Freya was leading the carriage away from this place, she suddenly felt a jolt. Through her special mental perception, a dark aura entered her range.
"Hmm?"
The sudden presence made her narrow her eyes slightly.
After a moment of thought, she loosened the Reins and found a house to hide in.
On the entrance road to Blackrock Town, a burly man in black armor was riding a Steed swiftly towards her.
He carried a broad-bladed sword on his back, and his brown hair fluttered slightly as the Steed galloped. His ordinary face bore a hint of anxiety.
Just moments ago, all the spiritual connections of the Blood Corpses he had created had been severed. Although they were merely cannon fodder, it was still something he could not bear after just escaping from that place.
"If it weren't for my family's betrayal, I wouldn't have fallen to this state! Damn it! My Blood Corpses, if it was man-made, then I'll turn that guy into a Flesh Puppet!"
A strong killing intent surged within him as he quickly arrived at the entrance of Blackrock Town.
However, when he saw the current ruined state of the town, the killing intent in his heart suddenly froze.
"What is going on?" (To be continued...)
