Chapter 236:
"Alright."
Freya nodded, watching Fira walk away, then turned to head towards the entrance of the Rune Department.
This massive building actually belonged entirely to the Rune Department.
Although the Rune Department only had twenty personnel, it housed various materials, items, and tools related to runes.
It also included large laboratories for various projects and a Recreational Area for the wizards to relax in.
Curiously, Freya walked down one of the corridors, where white doors lined both sides at regular intervals.
However, the nameplates above indicated that most of these rooms were either storage for rune equipment or laboratories.
Moreover, each door was sealed with confinement runes, indicating they were in a closed state.
After walking for more than ten minutes, aside from encountering Fira at the entrance, she had not seen another wizard from the Rune Department.
"Could it be that the personnel from the Rune Department are all out? But even if they went out, there should be one or two left to guard."
Freya furrowed her brows in confusion.
Her purpose for coming here was not only to report but primarily to communicate with these wizards about some common knowledge among Official Wizards.
After all, Freya's experience was limited to Elgreen Academy, where she had only interacted with apprentice-level wizards.
Although she had fought alongside the Official Wizard several times, many questions about the Official Wizard remained quite vague.
For instance, the Official Wizard's Meditation Method, exploration of other worlds, the limits of the human body, and other matters concerning the Crimson Eagle.
However, there was not a single figure in sight now, let alone someone to consult.
Glancing around the empty corridor hall, Freya murmured softly to herself.
"Perhaps this isn't the right time to come; maybe tomorrow..."
Just as she was about to head back, a door marked "Data Room" appeared in her line of sight not far from her.
The runes on the door glimmered with a faint green light, indicating that it could be entered.
This immediately dispelled her thoughts of returning to her room.
Freya strode over and gently twisted the doorknob of the data room.
With a crisp sound, the door opened.
A rush of cool air greeted her, causing Freya to squint slightly.
The data room was very simple and bright, lined with rows of large silver bookshelves.
A stack of bound materials was arranged on the bookshelf in a certain order.
Freya glanced around and found that most of the materials in this information room were records, with only a small amount of knowledge about runes.
She walked slowly to the section containing the limited rune knowledge. Freya reached out and swept her hand over the books on the shelf.
"Components of the Defensive Rune Tower, Murphilia-style Rune Engraving, Condensation and Release of Energy Particles, Rapid Generation of Runes Traps, The Connection Between Abyssal Magic Language and Runes."
She murmured the titles of several books softly. Finally, her finger stopped on one book titled "Rapid Guide to Runes Traps."
With her heart racing, she pulled it out and began to flip through it carefully.
Her understanding of runes was limited to a small portion learned during her apprenticeship at the academy, and afterward, she had been self-studying from Hegel's spellbook.
There had been no teacher to impart any knowledge directly.
If it weren't for her extraordinary brain and coordination abilities akin to a Great Knight, she probably wouldn't have progressed this far in the field of runes.
It's important to note that while apprentice-level knowledge is manageable, once one enters the realm of an Official Wizard without relevant basic knowledge and rune formulas, it becomes impossible to inscribe more complex Rune Arrays or high-intensity Rune Towers.
Even if you are given materials, blueprints, and tools, you wouldn't know how to start.
The materials she was currently looking at could be writings based on the accumulated experiences of many wizards; generally, one would not have access to them without being part of a Wizard Organization.
As Freya turned more pages, her brows began to furrow as if she were deep in thought.
After an unknown amount of time, she turned the last page of the book, then gently closed it and placed it back at a distance.
"So this is what a Rune Trap is," Freya murmured lightly after finishing the book.
What she had just read about Rune Trap strategies was actually just a guide on how to inscribe runes within a limited space. The significance of the content was not particularly great, but it provided Freya with some new insights.
In the past, even the simplest Rune Array required at least a thirty-centimeter diameter. However, the special techniques in this book eliminated some unnecessary elements from the Rune Array and transformed the entire planar magic circle into a three-dimensional structure.
This aimed to achieve a reduction in size, ultimately resulting in a portable Rune Trap.
It sounded simple, but in practice, it required some special skills and modifications, along with repeated practice to master.
The final product was a palm-sized Rune Trap that could be used like some disposable Cursed Items. Moreover, compared to the creation of Cursed Items, it was much less dangerous and required fewer materials.
In fact, this academically described 'Rune Trap' also had another name: 'Talisman' or 'Amulet.'
"Creating defensive Rune Arrays is much easier than offensive ones, and converting them into three-dimensional forms is also simpler. However, if one were to turn an offensive type into an explosive rune..."
The more Freya thought about it, the more feasible this idea seemed.
However, since she had thought of it, others likely had as well. Yet she wondered why none of the wizards she encountered had used such Rune Traps as their trump cards.
"Could there be some significant drawback that makes it unfeasible?"
As she speculated about the reasons, she pulled out another book on basic knowledge regarding runes.
There are many things here that Freya has never seen before.
Some basic knowledge about runes is something Freya urgently needs right now.
Time passes second by second, and before she knows it, the empty sun gradually tilts to the west.
The dimming light makes her frown slightly. Freya looks up at the clock hanging in the study room, which has already pointed to six o'clock in the afternoon.
It turns out she has been here for six or seven hours.
In those six or seven hours, she has only managed to finish four books of information.
"Has it really gotten this late?"
Putting the thick book back down, Freya stretches her arms a bit to relieve her somewhat stiff body.
Just then, a sudden faint crack sound comes from outside the door. (To be continued...)
