Chapter Two Hundred Eighty:
"Roar!!!"
Accompanied by this desolate and ancient roar, the dense green mist began to churn violently as if following some kind of will.
Freya slightly squinted her eyes and remained still, quietly waiting.
Although the situation was strange, she somehow felt no malice from the green mist.
"Hiss"
A faint sound.
Suddenly, a massive shadow slowly emerged from the churning green mist.
The shadow was enormous, nearly filling the entire room, making Freya's wooden barrel appear as small as a child beneath it.
"Hiss"
Another faint sound.
Freya's gaze fixated on the colossal shadow, and she vaguely sensed a faint smell of blood wafting from the green mist, as if something was about to emerge.
"Hiss"
The surrounding green mist began to consciously part to the sides, revealing a large green snake head slowly extending in front of Freya.
Its deep blue eyes were not like the fierce slit pupils of other snakes, but instead looked at Freya with a human-like calmness and serenity.
For a moment, Freya's initial wariness seemed to be influenced by it, becoming unusually tranquil.
She noticed that in the center of the massive Snake Head was a pale golden scale, shimmering with a faint glow.
Suddenly, she seemed to recall something and gently spoke to the giant serpent.
"Is this your inheritance?"
Without any words, the Snake Head nodded up and down, indicating affirmation.
Then, it lowered its head voluntarily, bringing the pale golden scale on its forehead closer to Freya.
This human-like gesture made Freya instantly understand what it wanted to do.
Focusing on the scale that was so close, Freya could even feel the power and coldness of the Green Giant Serpent.
This was the true essence of the Ancient Wizard Heritage, completely different from the current Meditation Method.
If she chose to accept the inheritance, she wasn't sure what impact it would have on her.
Moreover, she had a feeling that if she did not accept it now, this inheritance would likely disappear directly.
After hesitating for a moment, Freya still extended her right hand and gently pressed it against the scale.
'Crack!'
The scales shattered suddenly at her touch.
A green light point suddenly pierced into her palm.
A slight sting followed, and then large segments of memories surged into her mind along with the light point in her hand.
Freya unconsciously opened her wide eyes, as scenes flashed through her pupils.
Time passed second by second, though she did not know how long it had been.
The night wind gently blew in through the window.
She abruptly opened her eyes and looked around; the hot water in the tub had turned cold, rippling lightly with her movements.
The room was still that of a hotel, and there was no green mist around, as if what had just happened was merely a dream she had while bathing.
However, when she raised her right hand, she noticed a small green dot on her palm, no larger than a sesame seed.
Meanwhile, Black Rabbit, who had been lying stiffly before, was now standing in the middle of the room, holding an oversized red Charcoal Pencil and sketching something.
Noticing her wakefulness, Klein put down the Charcoal Pencil and said, "You're awake?"
Freya glanced at the chaotic marks on the floor and frowned.
"When did you arrive?"
She had set up a Defensive Rune Array in this room, which primarily served as a warning system with defense as a secondary function. Even Spirits could sense it, but this guy came in without triggering any alerts, making her suspect that the Rune Array might have malfunctioned.
"Three hours ago, yet you could sleep so soundly even while being hunted by a Dream Eater. I really doubt how you have the courage to venture into ancient ruins," Klein said, looking at Freya in the bucket with a strange expression and mocking tone.
He didn't even notice that Freya was different.
"That's none of your business."
Ignoring his gaze, Freya reached out her hand, and her clothes flew directly into her grasp.
Without standing up, she began to dress herself while still in the water.
Once dressed, she stepped out of the bucket, and a large amount of white energy began to emanate from her body. In no time, her soaked clothes were dry.
After completing these tasks, she walked to the center of the room and looked at the floor covered in chaotic marks.
A faint aura of chaos and coldness radiated from those numerous traces.
"What is this? Is it from those things again?"
"Of course, after all, it's a Dream Eater. You haven't encountered the dangers within it, so you wouldn't know."
Perhaps not expecting Freya to dress herself in the water, Klein's eyes revealed a hint of disappointment.
After answering, he continued to carve runes.
Standing in place, Freya looked at the traces on the ground but could not discern any common symbols used by wizards, not even those of the Ancient Wizard.
Now she was somewhat certain that Klein only mentioned his name without revealing where he came from.
Perhaps it was because he did not belong to any creature of the Wizarding World.
After observing the traces for a while, she turned and walked to the window.
Outside, the night sky occasionally carried a faint scent of sulfur, and now and then, floating volcanic ash appeared in the air.
Freya stood quietly by the window, gazing at the dark silhouette of Saharul Volcano in the distance, towering like a black giant.
Feeling the cool breeze blowing gently, Freya fell into deep thought.
In her azure eyes, a subtle green light flickered from time to time.
After a long while, she blinked and came back to her senses.
"Thus, the legacy of the Ancient Wizards is not inherent but rather a refinement and training centered around other powerful Biological Bloodlines to reach the peak period of that creature. Most importantly, this Bloodline inheritance is unique; it is not applicable to just any Bloodline."
According to her analysis, the legacy of the Ancient Wizards resembled a powerful creature's spiritual enlightenment bestowed upon its offspring.
It directly granted the offspring training and applicability of their own powers, while the Ancient Wizards preserved this spiritual enlightenment in a special way and subsequently integrated themselves into that creature's Bloodline to gain its immense power.
This method was also the quickest way to enhance one's own strength.
After all, in ancient times, powerful beings akin to deities were abundant. During that era, Human Wizards had no choice for survival; even if they developed the current Meditation Method, they would be eliminated due to slow power enhancement or significant limitations in breaking through bottlenecks.
"However, this inheritance of the Ancient Bloodline is not quite suitable for me, as it lacks the pure resources needed for the Bloodline. But I wonder if that giant serpent's Bloodline still exists in this world, because it has been too long since that era."
Freya let out a light sigh, feeling a subtle sense of loss in her heart.
"Cobra King Snake, the source of life in the swamp."
She didn't know what level of power such a massive ancient serpent would equate to if it were a wizard, but from the memories of the inheritance, that serpent's body alone was several thousand meters long, coiling up like a mountain.
In front of such a colossal creature, humans appeared as mere ants.
Even the most powerful sorcery would likely have little effect against such a massive body, not to mention its inherent Bloodline strength.
However, although she couldn't cultivate the inheritance without her King Cobra's Bloodline, there were still some techniques that could be utilized without relying on the Bloodline.
Among them was a method to absorb the Bloodlines of other creatures to strengthen oneself, which was an unexpected gain.
She slowly organized and summarized the knowledge from the inheritance in her mind.
Half an hour later, Klein, who had been continuously sketching, finally set aside his Charcoal Pencil.
"This is done," he said, nodding in satisfaction at the marks on the ground.
He then jumped onto the table, poured himself a glass of water, took a sip, and said to Freya, "Get ready. We're not far from the ruins; I can already sense that thing is getting close to us."
"Oh? So soon?" Freya asked with a puzzled expression as she collected her thoughts.
"Dream Eater moves through dreams as a pivot, and at night its speed is incredibly fast. I estimate it will arrive shortly," Klein said as he set down his cup.
"What do I need to prepare? Witchcraft? Or something else?" Freya asked as she walked around the marks on the ground toward the table.
"Just try not to lose yourself in the dream. No matter what you encounter, don't trust anything; you can only listen to me," Klein replied seriously.
"Okay."
Freya nodded gently, sitting down at the table and quietly turning the ring on her middle finger.
Upon receiving Freya's response, Klein's dark eyes flickered with a hint of dim light, and his aura gradually faded away.
"Now, I will pull you into the illusion. Do not resist; relax your body and mind."
Without a word, Freya slowly closed her eyes.
Her vision plunged into darkness, and soon the once calm room suddenly turned cold, while her entire body felt as if it was slowly sinking into water, gradually losing weight.
This was Freya's first time actively accepting being pulled into an illusion, giving her a very uncomfortable sensation.
However, this feeling quickly dissipated.
The world in darkness suddenly brightened. When Freya opened her eyes, she found herself in a sunlit forest.
Green grass was dotted with gray rabbits darting by.
In the distance, wisps of blue smoke rose from a town, seemingly accompanied by the aroma of food.
"Poof."
A faint sound.
Suddenly, a giant black rabbit head emerged directly from the ground in front of her feet.
It had a human body and a rabbit's head, with pitch-black eyes that represented its identity.
"This is the first layer of the illusion. Soon, I will pull you into the second layer. I feel that thing is already at the window of the room, watching you. No matter what appears, make sure not to trust anything."
"No problem," Freya nodded.
"Mm!"
Klein burrowed back into the hole.
As he left, Freya noticed that the surroundings began to slowly distort, shatter, and sink into darkness.
It felt as if she had entered water.
This time, the duration felt a bit long; Freya quietly floated in the darkness, seemingly losing track of the passage of time.
It was as if the entire world had fallen into a standstill.
Just when she thought several years had passed, a faint light appeared in her field of vision in the darkness ahead of her.
Squinting slightly, she slowly drifted toward the light and discovered it was a mirror taller than a person.
Inside the mirror is a world of only black and white, like a rudimentary comic without color, where all objects are outlined by simple lines.
She reached out and gently touched the surface of the mirror, feeling its cold smoothness.
Stepping back slightly, she clenched her fist and suddenly struck.
With a crash, the sound of shattering echoed as the entire mirror shattered into countless fragments that enveloped her.
As her vision blurred, when she regained her senses, Freya was already standing in this dark world.
Her feet were planted on Black Soil, surrounded by wild grass formed from white lines, with solitary trees dotting the distance.
Freya turned her head and squatted down to pull up a blade of grass.
A clear sensation transmitted through her fingers; she took a careful sniff and could still smell the faint fragrance of grass.
After playing with it for a while, she tossed the grass aside and stood up straight.
Klein's presence had completely vanished; she had no idea where he had gone.
After waiting in place for a moment, she began walking in one direction.
It seemed to be a prairie; apart from the white-lined grass surrounding her, there were large trees in either black or white.
The branches devoid of leaves resembled the claws of some creature, appearing somewhat ferocious.
After an unknown amount of time, Freya suddenly stopped and looked up.
In the empty sky, a massive figure slowly glided by.
It was a large black bird, with three crimson eyes on each side of its face, emanating a gloomy Death Qi.
Standing on the ground, Freya could even hear the whoosh of the bird's wings as it flapped.
"It’s the Hell Raven. It seems the Dream Eater has already arrived in this illusion," she murmured softly.
The flight path of the Hell Raven was directly in the direction Freya was heading.
After pondering for a moment, she moved forward again.
About half an hour later, at the edge of the endless grassland, a pitch-black wooden cabin abruptly appeared.
A long chimney stood atop the cabin, with white smoke rings rising from it.
Freya squinted at the cabin and noticed that it was surrounded by numerous black Hell Ravens perched on the trees.
They all silently stared at the cabin, creating an eerie atmosphere.
After a pause, she extended her hand towards the cabin from a distance and murmured an incantation.
Three azure runes slowly lit up on either side of her hand.
"Flash!"
In a soft murmur, a beam of Azure Flowing Light suddenly shot from her hand, transforming into a slender meteor that struck fiercely against the wooden cabin.
"Boom!!!"
The cabin was instantly blown apart.
Black fragments scattered everywhere, and a deep, dark hole was left in its place.
The surrounding Hell Ravens, previously motionless, were immediately scattered by the shockwave of the spell, cawing loudly as they flew into the sky.
