Chapter Two Hundred Ninety-Three:
In this ten-minute battle, at the beginning, that person was being suppressed by Freya.
However, later on, he unexpectedly entered a temporary state of Fire Element Element Assimilation using some Secret Art.
It was basically similar to a Summon's Elemental Creature.
But compared to a Summon's Elemental Creature, this form of a Crystalized Wizard was much more terrifying.
If it weren't for Freya maintaining her vigilance, she would have suffered severe injuries or worse from this attack.
Nonetheless, this also made her realize that this form had transcended the realm of First-Level Sorcery and belonged to the level of Second-Level Sorcery.
Of course, the person was also injured and had his mental energy continuously drained by Freya, which prevented him from fully unleashing this spell.
If that were the case, even if Freya intended to evade, she wouldn't have been able to resolve the battle with just a minor injury.
She used a dagger to scrape off the charred layer from her thumb, revealing the flesh underneath.
Then Freya calmly took out a bit of green powder from her waist pouch and quickly sprinkled it on the wound.
A hissing sound echoed as white smoke rose from the injury, and soon the area covered by the powder began to scab over.
After treating her external wound, she approached the figure in the black robe and started searching around.
Before long, she tossed several scraps of spellcasting materials onto the ground, along with a few Red Crystal Fragments and a Black Iron Ring.
Aside from that, there was nothing else.
Holding the ring, Freya stood up and looked down at the lifeless wizard. She then flicked her hand.
A stream of Azure Wind Flow sliced through the space between his neck, and crimson blood quickly flowed onto the sandy ground, turning the yellow sand into a strange brown.
Watching the changing color of the sand, Freya bent down to pick up the severed head and placed it into a black bag.
After finishing this, she took out the silver triangular metal piece.
The red symbol on it had completely vanished, leaving only the green symbol representing Freya.
Rubbing the metal piece, she quickly found a depression on its back and gently pressed her finger against it.
With a click.
The Silver Plate trembled violently, and then a Barrier sprang up from its center.
Inside the Barrier was a scene shrouded in dim light, where a figure dressed in a black robe was looking down at something.
The figure seemed to sense something and lifted its head, momentarily stunned.
"So soon?"
Kage's voice came from the figure's mouth.
"The target is dead; this is the head. Hasn't the mission already concluded?"
Freya shook the black bag in her hand and turned to the side, allowing Kage inside the Barrier to see the headless black robe behind her.
""
Seemingly caught off guard by Freya's efficiency, he fell silent for a moment before speaking up.
"I didn't expect you to take care of Firebird so quickly. It seems you're not just an ordinary Crystalized Wizard, are you?"
"No. I am an ordinary Crystalized Wizard," Freya shook her head and replied calmly. "When I found him, he was already severely injured. I just took advantage of the situation."
"Is that so?" Kage's tone clearly carried skepticism, but he waved his hand and continued. "Never mind. Since the mission target is already dead, your task is complete. I'll send someone to pick you up shortly. However, due to some contradictions in the previous task assignments, I reported to my superiors when you go out. In addition to signing an agreement, there will be three additional reward options offered as compensation for you, which were originally intended as mission rewards for formal personnel."
"Oh? Additional rewards." Hearing his latter statement, Freya's expression showed a hint of curiosity, and she nodded. "Thank you then."
"Alright, please stay put for a moment; someone will be there soon."
"Okay!"
Freya nodded again, and then the silver metal piece in her hand suddenly dimmed as the Barrier gradually dissipated.
Once the Barrier completely vanished, she put away the metal piece.
Freya turned to look at the vast desert around her. In her impression, nearly sixty percent of the land in the Wizarding World was covered by forests, with only a few special areas featuring other types of terrain.
Such a vast desert must certainly have a name.
"Is it the Feister Sand Sea or the Stardust Desert?"
As she speculated, she glanced at the headless corpse.
A hunted wizard, if they wanted to escape quickly, would surely flee to a densely populated area.
However, since this person chose to escape to this desolate desert, they must have some purpose.
After a moment of contemplation, she bent down and scooped up a handful of sand.
The yellow fine sand was soft and felt slightly warm in her palm.
After observing the yellow sand for a while, Freya brought it to her nose and sniffed, detecting an extremely faint scent of seawater.
"Eh? Is this actually sea sand?"
She frowned slightly, then let the sand slip from her fingers, a hint of confusion rising within her.
If she were a Necromancer, she could have used some methods to extract information from the corpse of the deceased wizard.
But unfortunately, she was not.
Five minutes later.
As she continued her wild guesses, a sudden loud thud echoed from a location not far from her.
"Bang!"
A column of Azure water appeared in Freya's line of sight.
Accompanying this water column was a strong surge of energy emanating from it.
Freya stood still, and soon a figure clad in black full-body armor, known as Tall Shadow, emerged from it.
The figure wore a horn-like helmet, and beneath it was a black mask that revealed only a pair of eyes emitting faint blue smoke.
His black iron boots made a 'thud, thud' sound as they struck the soft sand, quickly approaching Freya.
"Hello, I am Lucian, responsible for receiving this mission."
His voice sounded unusually muffled due to the helmet.
"Hello, I am Freya."
Freya smiled lightly and spoke calmly.
"Regarding the completion of this mission, the higher-ups have granted you the rank qualification of Third Rank external personnel. This is your token."
He pulled out a clever Red Castle Emblem from somewhere and handed it to Freya.
"Third Rank?" Freya took the badge and examined it closely. "Is there a ranking system for external personnel as well?"
"Yes, there are five levels. This will be mentioned in the agreement you sign with the personnel department. Please hand over the mission items to me."
The Armored Mage named Lucian seemed unwilling to provide her with further explanations here, and he extended his hand directly.
Without hesitation, Freya tossed the black bag into his hand.
Upon receiving the bag, Lucian opened the top, took a quick glance inside, and then immediately closed it. He then spoke to Freya.
"Good. Let's leave this place."
"Okay." Freya nodded.
With her response, Lucian turned and walked in the direction he had come from, while Freya followed closely behind.
After a short while, a blue pool of water suddenly appeared before them in the desert.
The two approached the edge of the pool, and Lucian stepped back a pace.
"Go ahead."
It seemed he had no intention of leaving; he was merely indicating for Freya to enter the Teleportation Pool alone.
Without saying a word, Freya glanced back at him and then jumped in with a splash.
Ten minutes later.
Freya found herself back in the office of the Human Resources Department.
This time, there was an additional document on Kage's desk, and a faint smile was visible beneath his hood.
He gestured for Freya to sit down. Then he pointed to the documents on the table and spoke casually.
"Freya, this is the Agreement for Non-Staff Members. However, our HR department values talents like you joining us very much. Have you considered officially joining us?"
Freya was taken aback by their decision and paused for a moment. She hesitated and said, "Actually, I have already joined a Wizard Organization, you know."
"There's no need to worry about that," Kage interrupted her. "Our organization has a dedicated Necromancer Grandmaster who specializes in souls. There’s over a fifty percent chance of resolving your issue, and the side effects can be negligible."
Freya silently looked at Kage, surprised that Toy Room had even considered this. After thinking for a while, she shook her head.
"I'm sorry, but I still need to think it over. After all, I'm not clear about the specific structure of Toy Room, and I can't rashly make choices about my future."
"Alright, I understand," Kage nodded in acknowledgment. Then he kindly added, "However, Freya, I want to remind you that this opportunity is only available once due to this erroneous mission. If you want to join officially in the future, it will have to be through formal means, and that difficulty is not ordinary."
"Mm." Freya nodded lightly, her expression calm.
Sighing quietly, Kage pushed the documents on the desk toward her.
"So, this is the Agreement for Non-Staff Members. Take a look; if there are no questions, just affix your seal."
"Okay."
Looking at the documents on the table, Freya reached out and took them in her hands.
The document is only twenty pages long, and the content is similar to what she imagined, with just a few additional confidentiality clauses.
It states that if one exposes their identity or leaks important secrets of the Toy Room, they will face severe penalties.
These penalties are determined based on the level of the leaked secret and are decided after deliberation by higher authorities.
After scanning through it again and finding no omissions, Freya pressed her seal onto the document.
"Alright, from now on you are an external member of Giant Whale," Kage said as he retrieved the document, tidied it up slightly, and placed it in the drawer of his desk.
"Next, let's discuss the rewards for this mission. There are three options for you to choose from: one Cursed Item, one Witchcraft Secret Technique, and an opportunity to consult on any question."
Upon hearing the last reward, Freya paused slightly and then asked, "Any question can be consulted?"
"Yes, any question," Kage nodded affirmatively. "Of course, whether there is an answer is another matter."
Freya hesitated for a moment before saying, "I'll go with the first two options."
"Not a problem. The Cursed Item is Night Owl's Voice, which is a high-level Cursed Item capable of detecting any energy fluctuations from level four or below witchcraft within a range of five hundred meters. The closer you get to the center, the more accurate the information detected becomes. Within five meters, it can even detect the presence of Spirits, making it a very convenient tool for both exploration and pursuit," Kage explained with a smile.
"The Secret Art is a high-level concealment technique, a modern adaptation of ancient witchcraft that can hide all traces of presence, including vital signs. However, this concealment Secret Art is quite difficult to learn; even with a solid Basic Knowledge foundation, one may not necessarily master it. Think carefully about these three rewards; my suggestion is to choose Night Owl's Voice for its simplicity and efficiency."
Hearing about the concealment Secret Art sparked Freya's interest, and she inquired, "If a witch uses the Secret Art, would they still be detectable by Night Owl's Voice?"
Kage hadn't expected Freya to ask this question. After thinking for a moment, he replied, "In theory, yes. However, it would likely require very close proximity since very few people have mastered this Secret Art; we haven't conducted any related experiments."
"Mm," Freya pondered for a while before looking up and saying, "I'll choose that Secret Art."
"Alright, I respect your decision."
With that, Kage lightly snapped his fingers, and a subtle ripple appeared beside him.
He reached directly into the ripple and pulled out a new brown book, handing it to Freya.
"This is everything about the Secret Art."
Without a word, Freya took the book and placed it in her robe.
Watching Freya accept the reward, Kage lightly tapped the table.
"Alright, the reward is now in your hands. I hope you will always adhere to the terms of the agreement, and you must complete at least three missions each year. If you wish to withdraw, you can apply for termination. There’s nothing else to discuss."
After quietly listening to Kage's words, Freya calmly replied.
"I understand. If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."
"Mm."
Receiving a response, Freya turned and left the Human Resources office.
Once outside the office, she chose to leave the Giant Whale.
She had been away from Cloud City for too long. Although the Crimson Eagle's Rune Department had a relatively loose management style, it was still better to return as soon as possible under these circumstances.
After all, she had now obtained the status of an external member of the Toy Room. That badge not only identified her but also had positioning functionality for the Giant Whale and mission selection capabilities.
In it, Freya also discovered three teleportation locations in Cloud City. If she wanted to do something, she could enter through there.
However, unfortunately, external personnel have a limit on the number of times they can enter the Giant Whale. Otherwise, she could completely use it as a teleportation point.
...
Five Hours.
Inside the Black Airship, which was gliding over the Dis Mountain Range, Freya stood quietly by the gunwale, watching the dark mountains grow more distant beneath her. She could vaguely see Elgreen Academy hidden in the mist among them.
However, the departure of the Rand Family had made her ties to this place increasingly weak. It seemed unlikely that she would return here in the future.
As the airship ascended, clouds gradually covered the scenery below. Freya instinctively touched the Secret Art she had on her.
"Perfect, this Secret Art can conceal my current level, avoiding unnecessary trouble." (To be continued)
